At Madam Alora's brothel.

"Come, Lara, let's go inside," Janet Jackson said.

Lara Almond responded, "No, Janet, you didn't say we were going to a hotel."

Janet frowned at the gate entrance to her madam's brothel. She had traveled to her village to bring Lara, wanting to help her escape poverty.

Janet replied, "Lara, I can't stand here with you. If you don't want to go inside, stay here alone. I have work to do, and my madam has been calling since morning."

Lara, a light-skinned beauty, frowned. She knew where Janet had taken her.

She knew Janet's parents were poor, but she admired Janet's lifestyle and dresses, as she mostly wore rags.

Lara replied, "I need to go back home. I cannot go in there."

Madam Alora stepped out and saw Janet by the gate. She remembered Janet's request to bring her beautiful and attractive best friend from the village.

It was 6:30 pm, and her customers would soon arrive. She only had four ladies working: Janet, Sophia, Edith, and Mimi. She didn't accept older ladies, as they were stubborn and wanted to know her secrets. Besides, young men frequented her brothel.

Madam Alora asked, "What's going on, Janet?"

Janet replied, "Good evening, ma. It's my friend. She doesn't want to come inside and has been standing outside since we arrived."

Madam Alora sighed, "Alright. Go inside, I'm coming."

Madam Alora walked out, dressed in a black short gown that barely reached her knees, revealing her dark thighs. She wore red slippers and walked towards the gate. Her eyes widened as she saw the beauty standing there with her tattered bag.

Lara greeted, "Good evening, ma."

Madam Alora replied, "Welcome. Why are you standing out here? Come inside."

Lara replied, "No, Ma. Is this not a hotel?"

Madam Alora frowned, forced a smile, and replied, "No, my dear. What makes you think it's a hotel? Have you been to one before?"

Lara said, "No, ma, but..."

Lara peeped inside and saw ladies in revealing clothes. She gulped, shook her head, and said, "Please, ma, call Janet. I need to go back home. I cannot go in there."

Lara began to cry, and Madam Alora's eyes narrowed.

Madam Alora had been getting calls from rich men requesting beautiful young ladies. Seeing the pretty girl without makeup, she shook her head and asked, "Do you have transport fare to go back home?"

Lara sniffed and stared at Madam Alora.

Lara replied, "No, ma."

Madam Alora said, "Then you will have to work for it. Are you coming inside or not? This isn't a hotel. I gave Janet money to bring you here because you wanted to come to the city. Now you want to go back? How ungrateful to insult me without even saying thank you."

Lara held her bag and apologized, "I am sorry, ma."

Madam Alora replied, "Keep your sorry and come inside now, before I lock the gate."

Lara stood speechless. She finally pushed the gate open and walked in, hearing music from the mansion. She followed Madam Alora into the living room.

Madam Alora called, "Janet!"

Janet replied, "Yes, Madam."

Madam Alora said, "Show your friend to her room and prepare her."

Lara refused, "No!"

Madam Alora asked, "What do you mean, no? Aren't you going back to the village? I don't have time to waste. Move with Janet, or I'll have you thrown out."

Lara gulped and stared at the ladies in the living room with golden chandeliers, seats, and curtains.

Janet said, "Come, Lara, let's go."

Lara hesitated and followed Janet, knowing the woman wasn't joking.

They walked into a pink room. Janet took Lara's bag and said, "Lara, I know you find it hard to believe this is what I do, but it's not prostitution."

Lara responded, "Liar! You should've told me. I don't want to sleep with any man for money. I don't want to lose my virginity until I'm married."

Janet said, "What's the point of keeping it? You, your sister, brother, and mother can barely feed. Your mother knew your father had a family before she married him. Did she think about her virginity or any of you?"

Lara yelled, "Shut up! Don't insult my mother!"

Janet responded, "I'm not. I'm being honest. I have an iPhone and a car. Do you think I have that by keeping my virginity?"

Lara replied, "Shut up, Janet! That's you, not me. If you had told me it's prostitution, I wouldn't have followed you. Now your madam said I have to work for my fare. If it's with my virginity, I cannot sleep with a man for money, so borrow me the money and let me go back tonight."

Janet laughed and replied, "No, Lara, you're not going anywhere. I wish I could, but my madam takes 70% of my earnings and gives me only 30%. It's not enough for me, let alone you."

Lara frowned, "Why, Janet? You should've told me."

Lara began to sob.

Janet apologized, "I'm sorry, Lara. Let's hurry and bathe before 8 pm, so we can eat and prepare before we leave."

Lara replied, "Leave me alone. I'm not eating or going anywhere with you. You wicked fellow."

Janet smiled and walked to the bathroom. Since Lara was new, her madam hadn't given her a room.

Lara continued to sob. Minutes later, Janet stepped out, tying a towel around her chest.

Janet said, "It's your turn now. Go and bathe."

Lara replied, "No, leave me alone. I'm not going anywhere with you."

Janet yelled, "What's wrong with you, Lara?! If you don't hurry, be ready to leave, as my madam has a hot temper."

Lara sniffed and walked to the bathroom door.

Lara asked, "Where's the towel?"

Janet responded, "There are five clean towels in there. I hardly use them. We have dry cleaners, so they're clean."

Lara stomped her feet and angrily walked into the bathroom.

The bathroom was beautiful compared to the local one in Lara's village. They were poor since her mother married an already married man.

Lara had step-siblings, but they weren't close. Her mother was fair, making her fair too, but her younger sister, Esther, was dark like their father, while her younger brother, Amos, was yellow.

They could barely feed in the village. Her mother sold fruits in the village square since her aged father only used her for sex.

Lara knew Janet was right, but she vowed not to sleep with any man until she got married.
