Chapter 6

작가: Sweet Lemonade
At the mall, Jazlyn picked out four tasteful outfits and two pairs of comfortable shoes, spending just over three thousand dollars in total.

She was in a good mood as she held the bags. She had stopped buying expensive clothes since Stanley's death.

Although she wore expensive gowns and dresses when accompanying Ethan to social events, they weren't hers to own.

The clothes she did own and usually wore were simple, and Ethan had, on occasion, made fun of her for being so plain. He had never paid for her clothes, yet he had no qualms about buying them for Rebecca.

Jazlyn had once heard from Sabrina that every year, Ethan would order several custom-made outfits from various internationally-renowned fashion brands and have them delivered to Rebecca.

The disparity between the treatment Jazlyn and Rebecca received was so huge that Jazlyn would be a fool to think anything could happen between her and Ethan.

Jazlyn ran into Sabrina as she left the mall. The latter took off her sunglasses and eyed Jazlyn's shopping bags with displeasure. "Becky got hurt and ended up in the hospital because of you, yet you're here shopping instead of caring for her? You're just a freeloader who's leeching off Ethan. How dare you behave like this!"

Jazlyn said sarcastically, "Your brother knows exactly why Rebecca got injured, and I'm not dumb enough to be a nanny for my husband's mistress. Also, I used my own money to buy everything I have here."

"Your own money? You don't even work. Where would you get money from?" Sabrina snorted.

Jazlyn said, "Wanda gets paid 28 thousand dollars a month for being a housekeeper. As your brother's lawfully wedded wife, I take care of his meals, daily life, and assist him with his rehabilitation. Do you expect me to be eternally grateful to him just because he's given me some money to cover my living expenses?"

"How dare you!" Sabrina didn't expect Jazlyn to have changed so much. The latter had been a pushover in the past. So, why was she so sharp-tongued now?

Sabrina screeched, "Aren't you afraid that Ethan won't want you anymore?"

She knew that Jazlyn was head over heels for Ethan. After all, Jazlyn had clung to Ethan and thrown herself at him despite him practically ignoring her.

"Apologize to me now, or I'll tell Ethan about this! He's already upset with you because of what happened to Becky. I'm sure he'll kick you to the curb once I badmouth you!" Sabrina snapped.

However, Jazlyn was unfazed. "Really? Great, because I don't want him anymore, either! Don't you know we're already getting a divorce?"

If not for Stanley's passing, Jazlyn would still be a pampered heiress. Why would she ever put up with an empty-headed brat like Sabrina?

Life had forced her to keep her head down for the past three years. But now that she and Ethan were going to get a divorce, she didn't have anything else to fear.

"A divorce?" Sabrina didn't expect that Jazlyn, who loved Ethan so much, would want a divorce.

Soon, however, she figured things out. She snarled, "You're not thinking of using divorce to threaten Ethan to leave Becky, are you? That will never happen! Ethan loves Becky with all his heart. There's no way he'll fall for your tricks!

"Don't try to stir up trouble. You won't be able to turn things around! Besides, do you think you can find someone better than Ethan after the divorce?"

Jazlyn couldn't care less about that. She said, "Don't worry. There's no way I'll try to turn this around. Since Rebecca is so desperate to have Ethan, I'll give him to her!"

With that, she walked away with her head held high and her back straight.

Sabrina fumed as she stared at Jazlyn's back. Then, she muttered, "Fine, then. I'll tell Ethan about this right now and have him teach you a lesson!"

Ethan stood outside Rebecca's hospital ward at the private hospital owned by the Fords. He looked down at his phone, annoyance written on his face. He couldn't believe that Jazlyn dared block him! He thought that she was becoming more unruly with time!

Sabrina approached from the other end of the corridor. When she saw Ethan, she growled, "Ethan, do something about Jazlyn! She's becoming more and more ungrateful. I saw her at the mall today. She bought a whole closet full of clothes, and she was rude to me! How can she spend so recklessly when you work so hard for all that money?"

"Wait, she was at a mall? She went shopping?" Ethan was surprised.

As far as he remembered, Jazlyn was frugal. She always wore the same plain, unfashionable clothes. Had she actually gone shopping for new ones?

Sabrina nodded. "Yeah. She must've swiped your card. Hurry up and freeze it so she can't use any more of your money!"

Ethan froze when he heard her words. Aside from the living expenses he'd approved, he'd never given Jazlyn a credit card.

"What are you waiting for? You must've given her your supplementary card, right? Where else would she get the money to go shopping?" Sabrina cried.

Ethan remembered how he'd given Sabrina his supplementary card. It had a monthly limit of a million dollars. For some reason, he suddenly felt like he owed Jazlyn.

He said, "I… I didn't give her a card."

"What? So, you transfer the money to her account? How much do you give her each month? Can you tell the bank to freeze her account?" Sabrina asked urgently.

That was Ethan's money. She couldn't let Jazlyn spend another cent of it!

Ethan sounded even more diffident now. "I only give her around 30 thousand dollars a month…"

"30 thousand dollars?" Sabrina was stunned. "That's really stingy of you, Ethan. That's barely enough for me to buy a few pairs of shoes!"

Suddenly, she remembered that the logos printed on the shopping bags Jazlyn held weren't designer ones. She was just starting to pity Jazlyn when she remembered that Ethan had paid for Julie's medical bills.

She quickly asked, "You pay for her mother's treatment, don't you?"

That reminded Ethan. Julie's medical bills went up to over a hundred thousand dollars a month, and he was the one who paid for them.

He immediately summoned Katie. "Stop covering Jazlyn's mother's treatments. I want her to come begging me on her knees."

Katie didn't understand what was happening, but still did as she was told. She left to call the hospital where Julie was. When she returned, she said, "The hospital said that Mrs. Shore was transferred to a regular ward six months ago and that Mrs. Ford has been paying her bills herself. She hasn't been using your money."

Ethan was stunned. "That's impossible!"

He distinctly remembered signing Jazlyn's application for money just a few days ago. He wondered what Jazlyn would want the money for if that wasn't for Julie's medical bills.

His frustration surged.

Upon hearing Katie's words, Sabrina muttered, "Was she telling the truth? She seriously wants a divorce?"

Ethan's expression turned frosty at the mention of divorce. It was almost as if Sabrina had stepped on his tail. He snarled, "Divorce? Did she say that?"

Sabrina nodded. "Yeah. She looked serious, too. She's not actually thinking of divorcing you, is she?"

Then, she grew excited. "That's good news, isn't it? She was shameless enough to stick around for so long when we kept trying to chase her away, but it seems that she's finally seen sense and decided to leave! Hurry up and divorce her so you can marry Becky, Ethan!"

"Who said anything about wanting a divorce?" Ethan roared.

Sabrina stared at him incredulously. "Isn't Becky the only one you love?"

Indeed, that was how Ethan felt. However, he couldn't stop the displeasure and irritation that surged within him at the thought of Jazlyn wanting to divorce him.

He said curtly, "I've never thought about getting a divorce."

Penny winked at Jordan cheekily as she spoke.Lacey, who stood beside her with her arms crossed, watched things play out with interest. Her lips lifted into a half-smirk as she thought to herself that Penny was certainly good at stirring things up and quite the charmer.Naturally, Henry wasn't half-bad either. He'd actually managed to drag Jordan, who was always busy with one thing or another, out of the office.Gwen blinked in confusion and looked at Jordan curiously, asking daintily, "Jordan, are these your friends?"She couldn't stop herself from fixing her gaze on Jazlyn, who was beside Penny. She gave her a quick once-over, having to admit that Jazlyn stood out the most among the three women. Her refined features and that delicate yet stubborn charm sparked an unprecedented sense of danger in Gwen.Jordan stood there, looking impassive. He showed no sign of wanting to explain anything to anyone. He already knew why Henry had insisted on coming here.He slowly turned to fix H

Henry, as if oblivious to Jordan's signal, smiled warmly at Gwen and said, "Gwen, it's been years, yet you still only have eyes for someone as boring as Jordan. I honestly don't understand what it is about him that has you hooked."Gwen blushed slightly as she protested playfully, "Henry!"Then, wanting to defend Jordan, she added, "Jordan isn't boring!"She sounded protective of him.Henry's smile widened, and he said, "Since you're already here, let's have Jordan play the gracious host and treat us to a meal."Gwen immediately agreed and smiled sweetly at Jordan.Jordan, however, was none too pleased. He had been hoping that Henry would help shoo Gwen away. Who would've known that Henry would go against his wishes and even invite Gwen to join them for lunch? This plot twist pissed Jordan off.As they made their way to the restaurant, Henry said to Gwen, "Not many people know that Jordan and I are brothers, so you have to keep it a secret."She nodded obediently. "Got it!"S

Jazlyn couldn't help sighing softly as she wondered how she would navigate the complicated situation she was in.Lacey blinked and surreptitiously picked up her phone, snapping a photo of Jazlyn's melancholic profile as she sighed. Then, she sent it to Henry.Henry had been dropping by Concord Legal often lately. Because of his outgoing and humorous personality, he quickly befriended everyone at the law firm.He also learned that Lacey was good friends with Penny and Jazlyn. With that knowledge in mind, he formed an idea. He wanted to help Jordan win Jazlyn's heart.Lacey had immediately agreed to help when Henry had spoken to her about it. After all, she thought that Jordan, her perpetually single boss, was a great guy, and that he and Jazlyn looked good together.Henry soon received Lacey's photo. He raised an eyebrow when he saw Jazlyn in it, and he replied, "Send me the address."Lacey received the message instantaneously and replied to him with the restaurant's address.Mea

Jazlyn and Penny arrived at their office space early in the morning to clean up. It was in the same building as Concord Legal, so Penny asked Lacey to join them for lunch.Lacey soon arrived, and the three of them headed to a nearby restaurant with a good ambience.Lacey kept glancing at Jazlyn as they sat at the table. She seemed to want to say something, yet she held back. In the end, she couldn't help saying, "Jazlyn, you might not know about this, but it turns out that Mr. Cooper has a childhood sweetheart! I even heard that they're on pretty good terms!"Seemingly wanting to prove her claims, she quickly pulled up a photo that had spread across the law firm like wildfire and showed it to Jazlyn.Jazlyn took the phone. She felt like she'd been struck by lightning when she got a clear glimpse at the photo on the screen. The young woman in it was smiling brightly, and her eyes were clear and animated. She exuded a vibrant energy. For some reason, a tangle of complex emotions su

Jordan said coldly, "I'm busy. If you're not here for anything important, please leave immediately."The words were barely out of his mouth when he turned to head to his office. His footsteps were so resolute and ruthless that it was clear he didn't want to waste another second there. His iciness and impatience seemed to go over Gwen's head. She ran after him, smiling so brightly that her eyes crinkled. She said, "I'm not here for anything! I just want to watch you work. We can even have lunch together!"Jordan wasn't moved in the slightest by her enthusiasm. On the contrary, his irritation grew. He just couldn't understand why she wouldn't leave him alone. He'd made it clear to her several times that he wasn't interested in her, yet she refused to give up.All he wanted to do was be free of her pestering, but she didn't seem to notice his rejection. She tailed him like a shadow. Two hours later, Jordan looked out his window to see that Gwen was still around. That exacerbated his

Gwen lounged comfortably on the couch in Concord Legal's lounge, looking completely at ease. A faint smile played on her charming face. The lawyers who passed by couldn't help glancing at her curiously as they wondered who she was. She wasn't bothered by the attention, though. She exuded a natural familiarity, and her every gesture radiated a unique confidence and poise. One might even mistake her for the boss' wife.Soon, Irene approached her with a smile, a cup of hot coffee in her hands. She offered it to Gwen.Gwen accepted and took a sip before kindly offering a suggestion. "Excuse me, but the coffee is a little too sweet. I like mine with half sugar. Maybe you can also add some ice cubes to make it more refreshing. Please take note of that for the future, alright?"Irene was taken aback, and she stared at Gwen. She'd never even seen the latter before that day. Everyone at the law firm thought that Jordan's girlfriend was Jazlyn, but judging from the current situation… Had the
