"I wish to fulfill Alex Dugan's desire to become a woman!"

The system responded almost immediately. "Since the wish involves altering the human body, the gender change will take seven days."

In other words, Alex Dugan would become a woman seven days later. I had to bite back my laughter.

Alex remained completely unaware of my wish. He reached out and wrapped an arm around Carla Locke's waist.

He pulled her close and laughed heartily. Their bodies were pressed tightly together. "Amber should be almost done grilling the food, right? Come on. I'm starving."

Carla snuggled against Alex. Her eyes sparkled as she gazed at him. They looked so close, as if they were the ones who were actually married.

Even though I had seen this countless times, I felt a sting in my eyes.

During the blue hour, Carla's friends sat in a circle on the beach. I was about to join them, but Alex immediately claimed the spot next to her. He turned to me with a smug look.

Before I could even say a word, she immediately defended him. "He just wants to sit next to me. Why are you making such a big deal about it?"

I remained expressionless and found another spot to sit.

Carla looked a little embarrassed when I didn't react, but it wasn't long before Alex's nonstop chatter caught her attention again.

Several plates of barbecued food were brought over. Carla immediately handed me a skewer of grilled shrimp and said, "Here's your favorite seafood. Don't be mad anymore."

I was momentarily surprised, but I still reached out and took it from her.

Seeing that, Alex immediately leaned into her arms and whined. "Carla, don't forget about your friends just because you're married. I'm hungry."

Carla looked at him fondly and quickly handed him the chicken wing she was holding. "How could I ever forget about you? You're my bestie. Here you go. Open up."

The ridiculous scene had everyone cracking up.

I pressed my lips together and stared blankly at the grilled shrimp. I finally showed a hint of emotion when Stephanie Fox offered to trade her grilled squid for my shrimp.

Stephanie was practically a stranger, yet she could tell I didn't like shrimp. And Carla, the woman I had been with for four years, had no idea.

Maybe all those years together had meant nothing to her after all.

After dinner, everyone was bored, so they decided to play a game of "Never Have I Ever". For the first few rounds, they simply brought up stuff they had done at work or in their everyday lives.

When it was Alex's turn, he flashed me a sly grin and met my gaze without flinching. "I've seen a video of Carla and Hubert in bed together."

The lively atmosphere instantly fell silent at his words.

My head started ringing as I stared at Carla in disbelief. However, all she did was give a helpless laugh and slap Alex on the butt. "Why are you bringing that up now?"

Amber Porter quickly tried to smooth things over. "It's just a video of Hubert drying Carla's hair in bed, right? Everyone's seen it, haven't they? Drink up!"

"That's not true!"

Alex suddenly rose to his feet, looking at me with contempt. "But when Hubert's in bed… Well, I wouldn't say he can't do it. He's just not compatible with Carla. She's really had it rough all these years…"

Carla shoved a skewer into his mouth. "Be quiet. We agreed to keep it between us. Why are you telling everyone now?"

Alex pursed his lips. "So what? That's what makes this game fun."

He then looked at me and said with a grin, "Hubert's a good sport, isn't he? I'm sure he won't care about something like this.

"Besides, it's not like I haven't seen something way more interesting. If you keep trying to stop me, I'll just tell everyone everything! By the way…"

He wrapped an arm around Carla's waist and whispered in her ear, "I'm pretty good myself, if you know what I mean. Carla, if you ever want to try…"

My ears started ringing, and my mind had gone completely blank. By the time I realized what I was doing, I had already swung the beer bottle at his head.
