Everyone in Moonveil Pack knew our Alpha, Eric, worshiped his Mate. When he loved, he went feral. To keep me—an infertile she-wolf—on the Luna throne, he once painted the Elder Council in blood. Stood in front of the whole pack and swore he hated pups. Said he'd end his own bloodline before he let me hurt. Yeah. That was his version of forever. Until my body changed. Then one day he walked into our territory holding a young she-wolf's hand—Velda—and built her a little love nest right next to our home. I asked for an explanation. "My pack needs an heir. You can't give me one." Velda smiled all sweet. The second he looked away, she flipped me off. "Zara, you're fat as a pig. What makes you think you can compete with me?" I looked at her young, perfect face and finally got it. Those vows? Not love. Just lust in a crown. I didn't cry. Didn't cause a scene. I called the witch through mind link. "Do it. Forcefully sever my mate bond with him." If he hated this body so much, then the thousandfold pain I'd held back for five years? Yeah. It was time to give it back.

But the second she got near, Zara's face flashed in his mind."Get out!"Eric shoved her hard."You don't have her scent. No one deserves to look like her. No one is her!"He almost ripped out the innocent wolf's throat.Instead, he threw her out like trash. Then he went to Stormcrown territory. He knelt outside the border for three days. Three nights. No food. No water. Didn't move."Zara, I'm here. Let me in. Please? I know I was wrong... I know... Just let me see you once..."He muttered to the empty air. Dazed. Broken.Daisy couldn't take it anymore. She walked out and pointed at him."Who are you performing for now? Zara's bones are ash. She will never forgive you."Eric looked up, a stupid smile on his face, pointing at empty air."No... she didn't leave... Look. She's right there. She's smiling at me..."That night, he dreamed. In the dream, Zara never lost the pup. Never got poisoned. She was round and glowing, sitting by the fireplace with a pile of fluffy pup

"What did you say?"Eric grabbed the healer by the collar. The healer wiped his sweat. "She's not pregnant. Didn't you ever take her for a real exam?"Eric pressed a hand to his head.Velda's healer friend. In that second, it clicked. She faked the pregnancy to lock him in."You bitch!"He roared and kicked her hard in the stomach. "You filthy liar! You thought you could play me?"Velda curled on the floor, shaking. No more pretending. When she looked up again, her eyes were pure mockery. "What do you think you are? Who kept coming back to me while Zara needed you? Who whispered that her body went soft?""Admit it. You chase whatever's new. You—" she laughed, sharp and cruel, "—you're the one who drove her to death."Eric snapped. She was right. He wanted the younger, prettier body. And now he was dumping the blame on her.If he hadn't shielded Velda—if he hadn't ignored his mate—Zara wouldn't have ended like this."Shut up! Shut up!"He kicked her in the face. Teeth

He kept flipping.[January 13, 2026. Today is the day Eric and I became mates. I was ambushed by a vampire. I called him to save me, but he thought I was lying. I reacted fast. Barely survived. I cooked a full table and waited to celebrate our anniversary. He never came. At dawn, I found out he was stargazing with Velda.]Eric's tears hit the page. 'What was I doing that night?'Pointing out constellations to Velda. Making her smile. He turned to the last page. The handwriting was shaky. Faint. Stained with dried tears.[If there's a next life, I want to be a wolf without a sense of smell. Then when my mate comes home carrying another she-wolf's scent, I won't know. Moon Goddess, please. In my next life, I never want to know Eric again.]"No!"Eric crushed the journal to his chest and curled on the floor. A broken, savage howl ripped out of him. That night, every wolf in Moonveil territory heard their Alpha fall apart. The only thing he wouldn't touch was Zara's phone. He wa

A figure burning with violent fury stepped closer. The chatter inside the cave died."H-Hey, Alpha?"One Omega spotted him and jumped up, clueless death had just walked in.Eric's gaze swept the cave. The home in his memory was gone.Everything was smashed. Trash and empty liquor bottles covered the ground.Rage detonated inside him. Killing intent flared in his eyes as he looked at the Omegas."Who told you could touch my things?! Who gave you the guts?!"He shifted in a blink and lunged. His fangs tore through one wolf's shoulder.Like a rabid beast, he ripped into them until blood soaked the floor."Restore it! Put the cave back exactly how it was! If even one mark is missing, I'll take all your lives!"In the end, the cave never went back to what it was.He shifted back to human form and collapsed. His hand moved to his bare neck. A matching token to Zara's used to hang there."You're not allowed to die... Without my permission, you're not allowed to die..." he mutte

I kept my voice steady when I met her. "I want the cleanest break. Even if he stands right in front of me, he won't feel anything through the mate bond. And make sure he never knows you did it."The witch stared at me. "Zara, forcefully breaking a soul contract will cut your life short. In your con

Before, I would've dodged a cheap move like that without thinking. Now the silver poison had slowed me down.I tried to pull back. Too late. The blade sliced across the back of my hand. Black blood welled up."Ah!" Velda screamed first. She grabbed her stomach and dropped to the floor. "Zara, why

A brutal cramp ripped through my stomach.Black blood filled my mouth.Daisy started yelling about the healer, but I grabbed her wrist."Take me home."I wasn't dying in a room that smelled like antiseptic. I wasn't letting the pack see me like this.I tried to stay awake so she wouldn't panic.
