Volunteer work

" There are six in total. Saving planet earth, Saving aquatic life, the orphanage, helping lost animals find a home, science talk and the last one is fundraising which we will all be involved in."

" Even the poor?", someone said, coughing to cover his loud words. Half of the class laughed at his dumb words.

" Saying something Luke?", Mr Wilson glared at the blonde boy who smirked and shook his head.

" Nothing Mr Wilson."

"You all have been distributed to your various works and will be scored according to your performance."

Mr Wilson looked around the classroom. " I have assigned you to your partners so any question?"

A red haired boy with braces raised his hand. " does saving planet earth involves only plants?"

" No, it involves so many thing like planting in the neighborhood, cleaning and ensuring a healthy, neat environment. That is all for today, see you all next time", Mr Wilson packed his materials and left the class.

Immediately the teacher was out, the class turned lousy. Students who haven't seen their selves in ages were having little reunion and some students sat on the table chatting loudly with one another.

I rolled my eyes and arranged my books into my bag.

" Sebb?"

My hand halted in the air as I turned to look at Emily. I swallowed and sat up straighter. Being friends with Emily is still a strange thing to me.

" Y-y-yes?", I stuttered.

" Let us go to the cafeteria", she suggested, dragging me along with her.

I sighed, this year is going to be tougher than I thought.

........

The cafeteria was filled with students chatting and some waiting at the lunch line. I looked around for the quads and couldn't find them.

" They don't eat here. They have their spot where they eat alone", Emily wiggled her brows and smiled. A knowing smile, she manage to find her way in reading my mind.

Am I that easy to read?

" I wasn't looking for them", I lied, increasing my pace as we were looking for a place to sit. Emily trailed behind me laughing.

" No one said you were looking for them. You might be looking for him", she teased me, making me blush hard. I tried keeping a straight face even though I ponder on what she said.

I don't want Emily too close to me bacause of what my previous friend did to me.

We have never been in the same class but this senior year, fate has decided to deal with me. The quads, mason and John, Emily, Cassandra the pearl high queen and I are all in the same class.

The quads and Emily have nothing to do with me but Cassandra, that bitch is a living hell for me. Mason and John are her dogs with her boyfriend Niki, always make my day bitter.

Maybe this senior year will be different. Maybe I won't have to hide anymore, I won't have to struggle in school.

" Sebb! Sebastian!", Emily clamp down her hand on my shoulder.

Ouch! That hurts.

" Were you listening to me?", She frowned at me to which I immediately apologized.

" I am sorry, I wasn't paying attention."

" You don't have to apologize for everything. I am sorry for startling you, I have found an empty spot."

" Oh, Okay", I sighed, walking behind Emily. I was getting tired of moving around.

" Aren't you eating?", She asked.

I racked my head for a reason why I don't eat the cafeteria food. I let my head down, my hair covering my forehead.

" My mother doesn't like it", I whispered, too scared to see her reaction.

" She loves to make me lunch", I added, hoping she won't ask more questions.

" Wow! That is amazing", she exclaimed.

Amazing? I glanced at Emily, not knowing what to say to that. Some students thinks bringing food from home is childish.

Her words brought out a smile to my face, I stood up, bringing my lunchbox out of my bag and setting it on the table.

" This smells delicious", Emily sniffed the air dramatically waving her hand.

A smile grew on my face .

" You look handsome when you smile. I didn't even know you have a dimple", she smiled at me.

My dimple is deep which make me look like a little child and my height is doing no justice to that.

I was about to sit down when I saw Cassandra and her squad approaching my table. She stopped right beside me, smirking down on me. I felt intimidated, my hands shaking as I try to grab my fork.

"Kindly tell me what you were discussing that was making you laugh so hard?", Cassandra said, she flipped her hair and placed her hand on her waist.

My eyes flickered as I try so hard not to tremble, even when my inside is on fire.

" What do you want Cassandra?", Emily spat.

" I wasn't talking to you bitch", Cassandra replied, she eyed me irritatedly. " A poor faggot like you don't belong here."

" What if I was rich, will you accept me?", I mumbled, not brave enough to speak louder.

" What did you say?", She asked me, her face fuming with anger. I refused to speak, keeping mouth tightly closed.

I gasped as I felt something cold dripping down on my face. Cassandra emptied her Coke on my head.

" Serves you right", mason guffawed.

I sat still, sniffing and trying not to cry. I looked around and saw the whole cafeteria were looking at us.

" This is unfair", Emily said, trying to defend a coward like me.

I stood up and ran out of the cafeteria. I didn't know where I was going, I couldn't see as tears pooled in my eyes, obstructing my vision. I didn't stop until I rammed into a wall or should I say someone.

The impact made me land on my butt, I sniffled, cleaning my tears so I could see clearly.

" Watch where you are going", a guttural voice caught my ear, voice dripping with anger. I quickly look up, my heart thumping very loud, almost threatening to come out of my mouth.

Kaden's cold face stared down at me with a huge scowl. His hand were in his pocket while his hair was let down.

It feels so slicky as the breeze blew it, my thoughts were interrupted when he dragged me up.

He frowned when I summoned my courage to look at him, probably because of the tears in my eyes.
