Penulis: Perfect Timing

Chapter 1

Penulis: Perfect Timing
I curled up on the couch, my face against my knees. My father's words kept replaying in my mind.

One million dollars.

Every month.

I did not have any delusional disorder. I was just a fool someone had locked in a cage.

The lock clicked softly.

My husband, Kyle Weiss, was home.

He took off his coat elegantly. When he saw me, his brow furrowed on instinct.

"Aria, why are the lights off again? The doctor said you need more sunlight."

He came over and placed his palm on my forehead, his voice gentle.

"Are you feeling sick today? Did you take your medicine on time?"

I looked up and met his concerned eyes.

This man… I had loved him for five years.

Three years ago, he said my mental state was getting unstable right after we got married and took me to a psychiatrist. The doctor then diagnosed me with severe delusional disorder.

From that day on, my world shrank to this apartment and the white pills Kyle brought home.

He said my parents had died in a car accident when I was in college.

He said I kept imagining I was a wealthy heiress, and that it was an illness that needed treatment. He said he had sold the apartment and the car and even emptied all his savings to pay for my treatment.

I believed him.

My heart ached over everything he had done for me. So, I took my medicine as I was told and cooperated with the treatment. I wanted to get better as soon as possible so I would not be his burden anymore.

Now that I think about it, all of it was like a big joke.

I looked at him, my throat dry.

"Kyle, are we...out of money?"

I could see a faint hint of caution appeared in Kyle's eyes, but it was quickly replaced by heartache. He sighed and pulled me into his arms.

"Are you overthinking again? You don't need to worry about money. You have me."

His embrace had once been my refuge. But now, that same warmth had been replaced by nothing but bone-chilling coldness.

I gently pushed him away and said, "I handed out flyers today and made fifty dollars."

I spread the sweat damp bill in front of him.

Kyle froze. His expression quickly darkened and he grabbed my wrist with great force.

"Who said you can go out like that? Aria, your condition has just gotten a little better! Do you want to relapse?!"

His voice rose, and the gentleness on his face seemed to crack.

He was so loud that I shuddered. It was the harshest he had been with me in three years.

"I... I just wanted to help and take some stress off you..." I lowered my eyes, my voice barely audible.

Kyle's chest heaved as he stared at me for a long time. He let go and pulled me back into his arms again in the end, as if all the strength had been drained out of him.

"I'm sorry, Aria. I didn't mean to yell. I was just too worried about you."

He took the familiar pill bottle out from his pocket and shook two white pills into his hand.

"Good girl. Take your medicine and everything will be alright."

I stared at the pills in his hand, and my stomach churned. It was these things that had kept my mind foggy for three whole years.

I took the pills and put them in my mouth before I took a sip of water. The pills slid to the back of my tongue and I held them there.

"I'm going to bed," I said as I walked unsteadily toward the bedroom.

The moment I closed the door, I rushed into the bathroom and spat the pills into the toilet. Then, I flushed them down.

I turned to look at the face in the mirror amidst the sound of rushing water. That pale face was unfamiliar to me.

My dear husband. The man who I shared the bed with…

I would keep playing my part in his little performance.

I looked down at Kyle, my eyes cold. "Where's the diary?"The smile on Kyle's face froze. He reacted quickly and crawled up from the floor, putting on a smug look. "You want the diary? Sure."He rubbed his hands together and named an outrageous price. "Give me a million dollars. No, ten million! Arrange a new identity for me and send me overseas. Only then will I give you the diary. I promise I'll never show up in front of you again!"He thought he had found my weakness, but I simply laughed. "Kyle, I think you've misunderstood something."I stepped forward and took the diary from his hand. "What makes you think you're in a position to negotiate with me?"I tore the diary to pieces right in front of him, page by page. Then I threw them into the burn barrel beside me. Flames leaped up and swallowed the scraps of paper instantly.Kyle stared with eyes wide, as if he was overwhelmed by the shock. "You... What are you doing? Are you insane?""Insane?" I looked at him, my smile

The divorce went smoothly. Kyle's leg was broken, and he was lying in the hospital, abandoned and pathetic. When my lawyer threw the divorce papers and a thick stack of evidence in front of him, he didn't even have the strength to fight back. I put everything I had into that slap on Kyle's face. His face swelled right before my eyes, and blood seeped from the corner of his mouth. The slap left him stunned. He covered his face, staring at me blankly.Winnie was terrified, too. She curled up in the corner of the couch, trembling."You… Aren't you..." Kyle's voice shook. "Aren't you sick?""Sick? Didn't you cure me of it?" I smiled coldly. He finally realized this had all been a trap. A trap that I had set just for him. His face changed color, from pale to even more pallid. In the end, he collapsed to the floor as if he had lost all his strength."No... Impossible!" he muttered to himself, unable to accept the truth. Everything he had worked so hard to build, the control he had been so proud of, all collapsed in that single moment.I couldn't be bothered to look at him again, and I walked over to the oil painting. The painting showed my mom's favorite sunflowers. It had once hung in my bedroom, and it was the fir

I had the driver take me to Kyle and Winnie's so-called "love nest".Once I was at the large apartment downtown, I rang the doorbell.Winnie opened the door, dressed in a silk nightgown. When she saw me, she froze. "Who are you looking for?"I could see a hint of wariness in her eyes. I smiled and said, "I'm here to see Kyle."Winnie's expression shifted, and she scanned me up and down. "You... Who are you?""His wife," I said. The moment I said those words, I could clearly see the color drain from her face. She stood there stunned for a long time before scoffing, as if she had just heard the biggest joke in the world. "His wife? His wife is some lunatic he has kept locked up at home for years. Do you even know who you're impersonating?"It looked like Kyle had told her plenty about my "glorious past". I wasn't angry, though. I simply leaned against the doorframe and watched her calmly."Really? Then why don't you call him and ask whether that lunatic wife of his looks

I didn't say anything to Kyle. Kyle seemed to sense something, and his tone softened. "Aria, calm down, alright? Can you come home? I know I was wrong, and I shouldn't have yelled at you. Just come home, and I'll apologize. Where are you? I'll come pick you up."He was still using the same lies to manipulate me.How ridiculous."Kyle," I said calmly. "Let's get a divorce."The other end immediately went silent.A few seconds later, he laughed in a mocking tone. "Divorce? Aria, are you relapsing again? Did you forget what the doctor said? You can't survive on your own out there. You won't even be able to feed yourself if you leave me. Stop throwing a tantrum like a child and tell me where you are."His tone was full of condescension and manipulation. In his eyes, I was someone useless who couldn't live without him."You'll know where I am soon," I said.I hung up and blocked his number. After that, my dad walked in and handed me a folder. "This is everything on Kyle, in
