Lovette's POV

There I was again—the same dream I had the night Micah left the castle. I couldn't sleep because I kept seeing the woman with the red snake whenever I closed my eyes. There was a knock on the door, and I sluggishly got up from the bed to answer it.

Fallon was standing outside, with her head bent, drenched from head to toe. "What happened to you?" I gasped, urging her in and locking the door behind us.

She was sobbing silently, and I placed my hand on both of her shoulders and shook her gently.

"What happened?" I asked again with worry. She slowly raised her head up and I gasped at the large purple bruise that had formed on her cheek.

She sniffled and closed her eyes. "They d-did it again." She cried out, falling on the floor and hugging her knees. "Six of t-them," she added, and cried harder.
