Camille's POV

In the restaurant, Travis stared at me, his blue-gray eyes full of concern.

"Are you really sure about this, Camille?"

I nodded, my fingertips tracing the edge of the violin case.

"After my mom died, this was the only thing that got me through the hardest days. Every time I play, I remember her teaching us. I was such a fool—I let it collect dust for five years all for an alpha who wasn't worth it."

I let out a self-deprecating laugh.

"Besides, Rowan's health is back on track. He's the future leader of the Aurora Shadows and he's found a new mommy. He hasn't needed me for a long time."

"What about Lucian?" Travis asked. "With his ego, how's he going to react to you going back on stage?"

At the mention of that name, my gaze turned cold.

"My life belongs to me now. I don't need anyone's permission, especially not his."

Travis watched me for a moment, his worry deepening.

"Have you thought this through? That arrogant prick has always seen you as his property. He never liked you being around me."

"Nobody cares what he thinks."

When I first got with Lucian, I cut off all contact with Travis just because Lucian said he didn't like the guy.

Guilt washed over me at the thought. I leaned forward and took his hand.

"Listen, Travis, I owe you an apology. I was so stupid back then."

Travis shook his head and squeezed my hand back. His palm was warm and dry, giving me a strange sense of peace. "No, you don't owe me anything. It's my fault for not keeping the promise I made to your mother. I let you suffer in that pack for way too long."

I was about to say something to comfort him when a familiar voice piped up.

"Oh, Camille, what a coincidence. Am I interrupting your date?"

I turned around to see Lara standing behind me, arms crossed, wearing that fake smile I hated.

Meeting her twice in one day felt like a curse from the Moon Goddess.

"Lucian finally makes it home, and you—the woman who claims to love him—leave him in an empty house so you can come out on a date with another male? That's not a great look, is it?"

She sounded so innocent, playing the holy angel while making me out to be the heartless villain.

I set my fork down and caught the glint of triumph in her eyes.

"Why is Lucian rarely home? Because you occupy every second of his time with your pathetic excuses. Lucian isn't here, Lara. You can stop playing dumb."

Lara instantly looked panicked and reached out to grab my arm.

"Oh Camille, you've got it all wrong, I didn't mean it like that..."

I pulled my hand back, rolling my eyes.

"Save it. Lucian's not watching. Quit the act—it just makes you look cheap."

"Ah!"

The second I pulled away, Lara let out a sharp shriek. She threw herself backward with dramatic force, as if she'd been shoved by a massive wave.

Before I could even react, a tall figure charged forward with a violent aura, catching her before she hit the ground.

"Lara! Are you okay?"

It was Lucian.

Lara looked up, her face pale and her eyes brimming with tears, looking completely victimized.

"I'm fine... don't be mad. I'm sure Camille didn't mean it. She's just in a bad mood after what happened today. Please don't blame her, okay?"

Lucian's golden wolf eyes flared with pure rage.

He finally looked at me, his voice bone-chilling.

"Apologize to Lara. Right now."

I laughed. This scene had played out a thousand times over the last five years.

The old me would have panicked, explaining myself and begging for his forgiveness.

I knew that if I didn't bow down, Lucian would ghost me for weeks—he wouldn't come home, he'd block me on the mind-link, he'd even take Rowan away for days without warning just to punish me.

He'd do it until I obeyed.

Thinking of that, I let my own aura flare out to push back against him.

"Why should I?"

Lucian froze, as if I'd just told a ridiculous joke.

"What did you say?"

I stood up and looked him right in those threatening eyes.

"When I cared about you, every word you said was like a command I had to follow. But now? I don't care about you."

I took a step closer.

"So, who the hell do you think you are?"

Lucian's breath hitched.

I wasn't the Camille who lived in his shadow anymore.

His chest heaved as his gaze darted between me and Travis, his eyes bleeding into a crazed scarlet.

"Mommy, how could you turn into this?"

I flinched. Rowan peeked out from behind Lucian, looking at me with pure judgment before turning a worried face toward Lara.

"You owe Lara an apology."

Camille's POVHearing her say that, Rowan cried even harder."No! I want you to keep playing the violin for me! When you performed at my school last time, all my classmates thought you were my mom. They said you were prettier than the Moon Goddess! You have to get better!"I walked up to her bedside."Lara, feeling any better?""It's nothing serious." Lara nodded. "Thanks for coming.""Lara, why the hell are you being so polite to a woman who's trying to kill you?"Lara's unnervingly calm attitude clearly pissed Brad off."I've said it a million times, I didn't lay a finger on her. If I actually wanted her dead, she wouldn't be lying here chatting with you right now.""You pushed her down the stairs! That's attempted murder!" Brad raised his voice.I pointed straight at Lara's bandaged forehead."Lara missed a step and fell on her own. I didn't push her. How many times do I have to repeat myself?""You're lying!" Brad turned to Lucian. "Lucian, do you really think this was an accident

Camille's POV"Get Lara to the hospital right now!"The harsh red light above the ER doors stayed lit. Lucian leaned against the wall at the far end of the hallway, half-swallowed by the shadows. Every werewolf doctor who walked past could feel the furious alpha aura radiating off him, practically running for their lives to get away.Brad rushed over the second he got the news. Seeing me standing off to the side, he immediately pointed a finger in my face and started screaming."Camille! You again! You actually pushed Lara down the stairs?! Are you just going to keep trying to kill her as long as she's alive?!"I stared coldly at his manic, twisted face, looking at him like he was a complete clown.Crossing my arms, I leaned casually against the wall."Alpha Brad, calm down. Even Lucian, the love of Lara's life, hasn't pointed fingers at me yet. Who exactly are you to her? You don't have a single shred of evidence, yet you have the nerve to accuse me of assault?"A low, rumbling growl

Camille's POVI patted his little head. "Of course we can.""Aren't you coming with me?""I'm still recovering, so I won't go mix in with the crowd."Finn didn't press the issue. He just nodded obediently."Okay, I'll be right back after a quick look."Before long, Finn came running back, practically bursting with excitement."Camille! Rowan's parents are incredible! They won first place in the footrace!"My breath hitched for a fraction of a second."Rowan's... parents?"Finn's expression shifted slightly, a mix of envy and disappointment crossing his face."Yeah. Rowan's been bragging to everyone at school about how his dad is the most powerful alpha and his mom is the most beautiful violinist. He says they're the best parents in the whole world."He glanced at my expression before adding quietly, "Before, when we saw that female always picking him up and making him snacks, we thought she was Rowan's mom. But Rowan told us his mom isn't some commoner who just messes around in the ki

Camille's POVThat very afternoon, the Enforcers released an official bulletin."Regarding the wasteland highway car crash, investigation has concluded that Camille is the zero-fault victim in this collision. Camille's POVHearing that old, stupid vow coming out of his mouth in such a mocking tone made me instantly flush with shame and anger. I raised my hands to push him away, but he pinned my wrists behind my back in a flash."Still trying to fight me? You used to do the exact same thing in bed..."His heavy breaths fanned against the side of my neck."Let go of me!""Hmm? Your mark is fading. How about I deep-mark you again right now..."He leaned in to bite my neck, but the comm-stone in his pocket suddenly buzzed. The sharp ring cut right through the thick pheromones in the air.Keeping one hand locked around my wrists, he pulled out the stone with his other hand and answered it. Malcolm's voice blared through the line, completely panicked."Alpha, everything is going sideways!""Stop panicking. Speak." Lucian snapped."Massive amounts of footage and evidence against Lara just hit the media! We can't scrub them fast enough...""I told you to wipe every single camera at the venue! Wher

Camille's POVI looked up at him, arching an eyebrow in pure confusion. "What?""You put out a statement and called a press conference just to squeeze money out of me?"My expression went completely dead. I didn't even have the energy to explain myself."If that's what you want to believe, go for it."Lucian tracked every single micro-expression on my face, trying to see if I was telling the truth."That video clip was taken from your dashcam. You had airtight proof the whole time, but you sat on it and didn't even hand it over to the Enforcers. Camille, you did this on purpose, didn't you?""Yeah," I said, letting out a cold laugh."If I'd handed it over early, how could I blackmail you for a hundred million now? More importantly..."I took a step closer, smelling the sickly sweet scent of Lara's pheromones all over him."I wanted to see just how far Lara would go with her little show without any evidence, and exactly how much my alpha partner... actually trusted me.""And it turns o
