The Luna trial challenge consisted of three phases. The trial of the body, the trial of the mind and the trial of the soul. Each trial was attempted on separate days, with a two-day interval in between. That morning, Scarlett sat beside Dylan in his study, listening to Jordan as he fully explained the trial to her. "Once you begin, you can't back out." He was saying. "If at any point you give up, it will be assumed that you are not capable and strong enough to rule the pack beside the Alpha."It sounded terrifying to Scarlett, but she had never been one to back out from a challenge. She exhaled softly and nodded. "I understand. You can proceed.""Wait," Dylan held up a finger to silence Jordan. He turned to Scarlett and gently squeezed her hand. "Are you really sure about this, sweetheart? I created the Luna trials for she-wolves, not humans. I don't want you doing this."Scarlett stared at him and smiled. She closed the space between them and leaned her head against his. "I know
A loud ringing sound echoed in Scarlett's ears after she heard those words. For a moment, she heard nothing else, just that persistent ringing in her head. Then everything cleared, and when her eyes refocused, Dylan was standing before her. He looked concerned. "Are you alright?" He asked softly. She glanced at Jordan, then at Caleb. They both looked worried. Seeing them staring at her with something close to pity didn't help. It only intensified the dread she felt within. "Can you give us a moment?" She asked. Jordan and Caleb exchanged glances, then Jordan nodded. "We will be right outside."Scarlett waited until they were out of the room, then she turned on Dylan. Her voice came out shaky as she spoke. "Did you marry me to cause me pain, Dylan?"Dylan's brows pulled into a frown. That wasn't what he had been expecting. "Excuse me?""Just answer the question.""How am I supposed to answer that? Why would you think I married you to cause you pain? I love you, Scarlett.""You d
Dylan stood beside the fountain, hands folded, regarding the guard kneeling before him. He had changed back into the clothes he wore earlier on. Behind him was Scarlett who had changed into a much appropriate nightgown and his robe. Jordan and Caleb stood to the side, along with a few other guards. "Well?" Dylan arched a brow. "What urgent news do you have to tell me, Jaxon?"The guard, Jaxon, slowly raised his head. He was young, with light brown hair and coffee colored eyes. He was out of breath after running like a mad man into the pack and startling everyone else. "Forgive my disturbance, Alpha. But I just heard the elders and the Armstrong siblings plotting against you. They know you know, Alpha."Dylan's casual expression grew serious the moment he heard those words. They know you know. He looked around the pack, searching the faces of the other guards and some of the pack members who were pretending not to eavesdrop. There was a spy. "Jordan, bring him to my study." He
Dylan remained speechless for a moment, unable to tear his gaze away from Scarlett. That smile did wicked things to him. His gaze lowered finally, past the neckline of the night dress which hugged her breasts perfectly, to the smoothness of her stomach and down her thighs which were visible from the high slits on both sides of the dress. Totally ignoring the dinner setting for two that she had set up in the corner of the roof, he walked towards her. Scarlett suddenly grew nervous."I'll understand if you don't want to." She rushed on to say. "I just wanted to do something nice. I know I hurt you with my words."Dylan stopped before her and pulled her close, his hands curling around her waist possessively. "Stop talking," he murmured before taking her lips in a hungry kiss. Scarlett felt the tension ooze out of her shoulders. She pulled him closer, her hands snaking round his neck as she pressed against him and kissed him back. She moaned, showing him without words how good he ma
"WHAT THE FUCK, HENRY!" Hailey screamed, sickened by the sight of blood gurgling out in great gouts. Jemimah clawed at her throat, her eyes wide open in terror and disbelief. She obviously didn't expect Henry to kill her. She fell to her knees, choking and gagging, bright red blood spreading across her chest and down her dress. Henry stared at her in pure disgust, then kicked her over to make sure she was fully dead. A pool of blood was already spreading beneath her. Greta looked furious. "Why did you kill her?""I had to!" Henry snapped back. "We can't let her know what we plan to do. We can't trust her anymore.""Oh you suddenly can't trust her? Remind me again who fucked her!""This isn't the time or the place, Greta.""You fool!" Agravain snarled. "You just made it difficult for us to have a spy in the pack."Henry looked perplexed. He glared at all of them, his face twisted into a scowl. "What the fuck are you talking about?""You shouldn't have killed her." Greta cut in sha
"Are you really sure about this, Dylan?" Jordan asked. He was hunched beneath a tree, throwing pebbles around. Above him, Dylan perched on one of the thick branches, his back against the hard bark. His eyes were distant, the light brown pupils glowing slightly from the afternoon sunlight. They had been in the forest for hours, miles away from the pack. "Do you know that this was the first place I saw Scarlett?" He said instead of answering the initial question. Jordan looked up in surprise. "This place?""I told you we were going to a special place, didn't I?""You did. I just didn't expect this. So we're closer to the humans than we are to the pack?"Dylan nodded. "We are. I remember it like it was yesterday. She was sitting right here, talking with her friend. That was the first time I saw a human up close. And when she flung that dagger at me, I was intrigued by her bravery. I never thought I would fall so hard for her in the space of a year."Jordan looked around the tree, the
Dylan was furious. Not at Jordan or his hunters, or at Caleb who just waltzed into the pack after three years of being away. He was furious at himself for leaving the pack, knowing he had a human wife living in his home. He should have stayed back, let the hunters go on the hunt alone. They'd don
"What are you doing here?"For a full minute, Scarlett froze, and for two reasons. First, she never expected Dylan to break out from his sleepwalking state. Leah never broke out. Secondly, she was clad in just her pink nightgown, without her robe. With the glow from the candle lights and the chan
Scarlett had just rushed out of Dylan's room and was running towards the stairs when she came face to face with Helgar and Beowulf. She stopped short, almost colliding with them. "Lady Callahan." Helgar exclaimed. "Where are you off to in such a rush?"Scarlett stepped back and tried to calm her
Scarlett expected a brutal kiss. She expected a kiss that would leave her lips bruised, a punishing kiss fueled by the hate between them. But the moment Dylan's lips closed over hers, every single thought in her head evaporated. He kissed her like he had done it a million times, lips sliding over
