Lillian Monroe.
Everything had to be perfect.
For him, at least.
I was going to make this marriage work perfectly this time. We had been too imperfect for long.
Luckily, I had talked over it with my husband and he thought same too.
"Hang the picture there." I said to the men who carried the giant portrait of my husband and I, taken on the day of our Military marriage.
People always asked me how it felt to be married to a military man.
I'd say... Interesting and sweet.
But in truth, it was not so good. It was a herculean task for only those strong at heart.
Myself, for instance.
So many times, I felt like marching to his battlefield and dragging him back home to spend some time with me.
At least, it was finally happening after three months.
I missed my husband so much.
In every way possible.
"Going all out of your way for your husband?" My neighbor smiled at me, holding out a cookie box to me.
"Thank you Maria. I just hope he likes it." My tone was nervous.
He didn't know I was doing this.
I just wanted to surprise him.
"Trust me, he will love it. Who wouldn't love it when their wife goes out of their way to make your return special." She chuckled, patting my back. "I gotta go pick a dress. Can't miss an opportunity to eat nice food and drink."
Chuckling, I nodded at her.
Seeing that everything was set, I clasped my hand in content.
"Order for Mrs Monroe?" A lady said from the door, holding a bag for me.
I knew the content.
It even made me more giddy.
"That's me." I signed and took my package from her, ushering the workers out before locking my door.
Squealing, I rushed into my room to fit the new Victoria Secret latest lingerie edition. It was sexy as fuck.
There's no way, he'd keep his hands to himself after seeing me in this. I thought to myself.
My phone rang out, making me jump in fear. My heart drummed harshly in my chest.
"God, Fedora. Are you trying to give me a heart attack?" I said to my best friend over the line.
"Hey girl. Hope you've waxed that area clean because today you're going to be cleaning those cobwebs!" She yelled, almost blasting my eardrums.
How did I even know this girl.
"Are you not outside?"
"What? This is the 21st century and so sex is no longer something new to be discussed about, in a hushed tone. Besides, you're married and we're talking about you having sex with your -"
"Okay, I get it." Chuckling, I shook my head. "You're a handful."
"Sorry, I won't be able to make it today. I have this church deliverance that nana is trying to take me to. She thinks being a lesbian is a demonic initiation activity." She laughed, reminding me about her bat-shit crazy ass grandma.
That woman was something else.
"I feel you." I nodded in understanding even though she couldn't see me. "It's almost 5. I gotta bathe and open the doors. Party starts in 30 minutes. He should be at the airport by 5:30 too."
"Have fun, girl. I need the dirty deets tomorrow. Make sure you try those new styles."
"Bitch, bye!" I hung up, tossing my phone on the bed with a wide smile on my face.
Packaging the lingerie back into its bag, I rushed to freshen up. Bathing didn't take long because excitement wouldn't even let me stay in there for another minute.
After I had dressed up, I went to check everything once again and when it got to 5:30 PM, I opened the door, sipping on my drink as I waited for family and well-wishers.
Just as I had predicted, by 5:35, my phone buzzed in my hand. Smiling at my husband's name displayed on the screen, I quickly picked.
"Hey Big Guy!"
He stayed silent for a while, before saying. "Hey."
Frowning slightly, my forehead creased with worry. I made my way to the speaker, reducing the music.
"Are you good?" I asked, my heart beat racing.
Hope nothing bad had happened to him. I thought to myself.
Oh God!
"Yeah. I mean no."
"Then speak to me." I almost shouted frustratedly.
I nodded curtly at my neighbor who had returned back in a beautiful party dress. She was really ready.
"I... I'm sorry Lil, I can't make it today. Something urgent came up and I would have to spend another one month here."
My mouth fell open, a piercing noise blaring in my ears as my phone slipped down from my hands. The house felt like it was closing on me, the decoration and food mocking me.
It can't be.
No, no, no. This wasn't happening to me.
All my surprise. Time. Money... The guest -
"Whooo!!!" Cheered crowd of persons as the made their way inside to celebrate the return of my husband -
Who was not going to make it.
Fuck.
Lillian's POV"Why do I feel like you've been avoiding me or something?" Fedora sighed heavily, her voice sounding distant from her speaker. "Me? I am not." I lied. I didn't know how to face her when she warned me about everything.I was ashamed of myself.I denied my husband just for pleasure."I came back to look for you that day and you were gone." Faking a cough, I managed to speak. "I just... I wasn't feeling it and somehow, I fell under the weather. I won't be going out with you for a while too. That world is not for me."But it was. I was attracted to the thrills and I wanted to explore deep. However, it was bad. I was married and I had to start acting like a married woman."I hope you're okay though." Fedora said after a long silence. I knew she didn't believe me though but she didn't press further.Swiping away the stray tears that fell from my cheek, I replied. "Yeah. I think someone is at the door. Maybe it's my takeout."She bade me goodbye and hung up.I wasn't entire
Lillian's POVJust like he said, he left the next morning. Also, as early as 5 AM. No goodbye letter or any of such. He just ... left.Like he always did.I didn't even know why I thought I could make this marriage perfect. My mood for the morning had already turned sour as I felt the cold, empty space on the bed. Though the weather was warm and cozy, the room also felt too cold.Maybe it was just me. "What's that?" I muttered to myself, making my way to the dresser. "Oh?"Another wedding ring case? Why would there be another wedding ring case on my dresser.Oh my goodness!Don't tell me my husband was returning his own ring. Immediately I had that thought, my heart began to beat fast in my chest, it almost felt like it was going to rip out. It took me a lot of courage to open the box to see...A necklace. And it had a name.Emily.Scoffing, I sat down on the bed. My head felt heavy, my hands shaking. I pulled the necklace out, just to see a paper underneath it."Love you, always.
Lillian's POV One thing about lies and relationship was that once you let them mix...That's the end. You'd keep lying."Do you think he bought that lie?" My eyes were glued to the road, while I spoke with Fedora on the phone. She was my only friend anyway."He knows I'm wild and nasty. So yeah, he'd believe I put the hickey on you while you were sleeping, to annoy you. Smooth lie." She praised my lying skill."I just feel so terrible. He's coming back today and I'm so out of it." I admitted, matching brake at the grocery shop."You'd give yourself away like that, girl. Stop it." She hissed. "It was a mistake and it won't happen again. Just let it slide, okay?"Easier said than done."Okay bye." I had to cook before my husband returned and I was preparing his favourite meal. Classic 'I feel guilty and I'm sorry' meal. After shopping for what felt like eternity because I'd stop to think, I finally headed out. My stomach grumbled, making me stop by a pastry shop to get something. The
Lillian MonroeMy bed felt a little warm today And surprisingly -Not empty. But the funniest thing was that my husband was not back, so that meant - Holy shit.My eyes shot open as I stared at the person in my bed. I woke up to a woman.A half naked womanI didn't even know if I should thank God that it was not a man or scream for it being a woman."Hi Purple.""Stop calling me that." I bit out harshly, eyeing her as she stood up from the bed in almost nothing."Not a morning person. I see." She shimmied herself into her party dress. How did we even get here?On my matrimonial bed!Oh Lillian."Look, I don't know what -""Yeah, you were quite drunk. You didn't even have much to drink." She chuckled, her green eyes sparkling. "Last night was awesome though. Great boobs and cute pussy by the way." "Don't talk about my body like that." Annoyed, I stood up with the sheet wrapped around me. "You need to leave. This never happened. Nothing happened between us.""Of course." The girl ro
Lillian's POV"Seriously, you need to stop." Sniffling, I wiped my eyes with the tissue. I didn't know how to stop crying."Tell me why I should when my husband has been ignoring me for A WEEK. It's so unlike him and it's getting me worried." My voice was hoarse and barely audible."See why I like women?" Fedora tried to lighten the air but it wasn't working."Not helping." "Yeah, right. Sorry." She chuckled softly. "Maybe he's indeed too busy saving lives and all that shit the military does. Come on, you knew what you were getting into when you said I do." "It's been 3 months after he returned home for only two weeks the last time. These days he stays at home for few weeks and spends months out there. It's unfair to me.""Tell their superior that." Fedora shrugged, patting my back before walking up to the cabinet to get something. "What are you doing?" I eyed her suspiciously, dampening my wet cheek."We're going to let go. Drink champagne, go out and let loose." Fedora encourag
