FLASHBACK: NINE YEARS AGO CONTINUED

Zerah

As I returned to the room, I sighed in defeat.

Seeing that he was fine, I took the chance to change clothes and do the laundry with the clothes he had. I'd also used the chance to check said clothes for any form of identification.

And what had I found? Nothing.

There was no ID in his pockets, nothing I could identify him with. His wallet was gone, or maybe he didn’t even have one on him to begin with. No phone either. Just wet clothes and a body full of questions.

Had he perhaps lost them? Was there an accident that brought him here? Or perhaps…was he a criminal on the run?

No, I thought to myself. That didn't sound right. He didn't look like it either. In fact he didn't look much like anyone who had gone through too much struggle.

No amount of speculation I had would answer my question.

“Who the hell finds themselves here?” I muttered to myself, looking over at him.

His face was calm now, even peaceful. His hair was dark and wet, but I cou

Jason The scent hit me harshly. It was sweet, floral and gentle yet it slammed into me like a ton of bricks. For a moment, my vision blurred. It felt strange…like something from a place I couldn’t name. A faint ache reached my head, a low pounding. Where the hell was it coming from?I followed the scent, tracing over the source until I finally found it. It was coming from…a candle. The light flickered on the table. My heart lurched. It felt like I was being pulled towards something. Why did my head hurt?I felt something shift inside me. For a moment , my vision blurred, flashes of images hitting me, like static on a screen. I shut my eyes tightly against the pain, jaw clenched. A faint ringing reached my vision, booming with the pounding ache through my skull. What the hell was going on?“Ryker?”Zerah’s voice made me blink. In an instant, the fog that had clouded me was gone. The pounding stopped and the ringing seemed to leave. The discombobulation that had gripped me began to

RykerReturning back to my mansion, my jaw clenched at the sight. For a moment, I could only stare blankly at the home that was called my own. One I felt equally unworthy of returning to.I didn’t think I’d feel this drained on returning. Closing my eyes, the events of yesterday still echoed in my mind. In the end, I hadn't been able to leave the Falloway mansion. What was supposed to be a visit turned into an overnight stay. With Alice speaking to me, my attempts to leave were foiled. I stayed by her side throughout , walking her around the garden to the approval of my aunt and uncle. Nathan had long since disappeared. I wanted to do the same as well by the time evening struck, but Alice had convinced me to stay.“I feel my head aching a bit. It'll be hard for me to sleep.” She said That, alongside my aunts and uncles please left me no choice. Alice would feel better if I did.And so, for the rest of the night, Alice slept in my arms. Despite my insistence to stay at her bedside

PRESENT DAYZerahOpening my eyes, I found myself back in the blurring view of passing buildings and cars in the night sky through the window, the decade long past feeling like a dream.I was back in the car, riding through the quiet night. It had almost been a decade since. It should have been long forgotten, but that memory still stood clear as day.It was the day that my life had changed.I could recall the aftermath too. Back then, when my mother finally came back that night, I'd felt both relief at her return and anxiety when I led her to my room, revealing him lying there. I could still recall my racing heartbeat as I waited for her to respond. She didn’t even blink when she saw him. There were no questions, no screams or attempts at beration. Instead, after what felt like an eternity she had turned to me, looking over the floors and smiled.“Its a good thing you remembered to clean the floors properly Zerah. Water on wood never goes well.”I snorted at the memory, the feeli

FLASHBACK: NINE YEARS AGO CONTINUED Zerah My heart jumped to my throat, scrambling to my feet in pure panic."Mom?" I screamed as I ran, my sandals slipping on the rocks, with my heartbeat pounding like a drum in my ears.It shouldn't have made sense. We walked along these paths normally , yet my heart was racing. She had been working herself to the bone. What if she was exhausted and slipped? What if…Stopping in my tracks, I painted heavily, looking over at the figure at the shore. It wasn't my mother. Relief flooded me, but it wasn't for long.It was someone else. A young man. He was floating face-down, limp. His body moved gently with the river’s current.“Oh my gosh,” I whispered again.Grabbing at the body I used all of my strength to yank the person out of the water. His body was heavy, soaking wet, and freezing cold. With strenuous grunts, I didn't stop until I reached solid ground. The strain made my body ache as I let him go, sitting up to look at him properly. His shirt

NINE YEARS AGOZerah"Zerah Mikealson," the receptionist called.I blinked fast, startled out of my thoughts. I had been zoning out for a while, holding onto the resume in my lap like it was something sacred. I stood up quickly, nearly dropping my phone, and muttered a small thank you as I walked past the desk and went into the main office. The room was cold. The air conditioner was humming from the corner, and I had goosebumps all over my arms. The walls were plain gray with one cheap-looking painting of a city skyline, there was a small desk in the middle, papers stacked everywhere and a chipped mug filled with pens, and an older man with tired eyes looking straight at me."Have a seat," he said as he was already flipping through what I assumed was my file.I sat down, trying to sit straight and also trying not to fidget. I crossed my legs, then I uncrossed them, my palms were sweaty, but I rubbed them against my skirt and tried to calm down."So you’re here for the reporter spot?"
