1 -I Fought

I rush out of the way as a glass cup comes flying at me. It crashes into the wall beside me and shatters onto the ground.

I look up and find my wife, Alexis, sitting on a couch in our living room, in a meditation position. She is crying audibly.

"Alexis? "I call in worry. She raises her head to look at me, and then drops it back, and continues crying.

It's dark as it's currently 8:00 pm. I turn on the lights, and find empty whiskey bottles on the floor in front of the chair she's on.

I move slowly towards her.

"Baby? "I call, but she doesn't reply nor react. I drop my bag and sit cautiously beside her.

"Alex. What's going on? "I question, and she looks at me.

"Damon... "She calls my name before continuing sobbing. I take her hands in mine and look into her beautiful grey eyes.

"Tell me. What is it? Did something happen? Did someone say something? "I question in worry. Her breath heavy with the smell of whiskey.

"I... I'm confused. I don't know what to do. I have no idea what... What I want. "She replies, and my head begins to run around. Wondering what's going on.

Alexis and I have been married for three years. I know she loves alcohol, but it gets worse when she is bothered by something, upset, or in pain. Right now, she's drunk and is stumbling over her words.

"Explain to me. I'd understand. "I reply, and she looks at me. Her grey eyes are being bullied by the crimson shade her eyes have gotten from crying so much.

"I want a divorce! "She wails, and my heart drops into my balls. I stare at her for a few seconds and I realize she isn't joking.

"I want a divorce, Damon..."She cries again before gulping down all the whiskey left in the bottle in her hand. She throws the bottle across the room, and it crashes against the same wall that broke the glass cup.

I stare in disbelief at my wife. We're not fighting, arguing, or on a rough page. I love her ever so dearly, and she's never made me feel like something was wrong.

She collapses on me with her head on my chest, and I gulp. Did she mean what she said, or it is because of the alcohol in her system?

Although my heart is beating as though in an Olympic race, I hug her tightly while patting her hair. Earnestly hoping she didn't mean what she said.

I keep patting her hair as she cries into my shirt, trying to comfort the both of us.

If Alexis leaves me, I'm gonna die. She's been my life for the past three years.

I can't live without her.

**************************

That was three months ago.

Right now, she's staring blankly at me from her red Lamborghini, and I'm beside my black Mansory.

She has its front door open and is just looking at me, instead of getting into her car.

We are before the court where I've been fighting to save our marriage, but today I lost. I've lost the case, and honestly, I'm tired of fighting.

I've been ordered to sign the divorce papers otherwise I'd be looking for legal trouble, and would have to be under a restraint order that stops me from being anywhere near Alex.

"Sir? "My driver calls. Trying to get my attention.

"Take a cab home. I can drive myself. " I reply to him whilst squeezing a few dollar notes into his hands without looking or counting.

I get into my car's driver seat in annoyance, stare at my backstabber of a wife, through my rare mirror for a few more seconds, before starting my car, and zooming off.

I never wanted this to happen. But it did. And I'm done fighting. I'm done. I begged, and did what not? Just to have her stay, but she's made up her mind, and I'm done stressing myself.

I get home and make it into my house. My mother comes as fast as she can to the door on seeing me enter the house.

"Honey, how was it? Is she staying? "My mother's sweet voice questions and I exhale with my back turned to her. I was hoping she won't ask about today, but knew full well she would.

She's always seen Alex as her daughter, and this divorce issue has been bugging her, almost as much as it's been doing me.

"No mom. She's leaving. I lost. She won. She getting 20% of all I own, but she said she doesn't want it. And just wants to leave. "I reply, and my mother's little face falls.

"What? No. There must be something we can do to make her stay. Alex can't just leave. "She says, and I stare blankly at her.

"Mom! She's leaving... No, she's left! There's nothing we can do, and even if there is, I won't do it.

What haven't I done? Mom I've fought hard for her love, and I'm done begging. She wants to leave, fine.

I'm signing those papers mom. She's no longer my wife. If you want to keep the woman who broke me as your daughter, fine!

As for me, I'm done with that woman! "I reply in pure anger.

"Damon, honey, don't talk like that. I know you still love her. Besides, divorce is a sin. "She replies.

"Don't give me that, mom. Divorce is not a sin. The Bible permits it! "I reply before walking towards the stairs.

"But... "She makes to speak, and I turn around to face her.

"And I don't love that woman anymore. I'm done with her. If you love me, you'd give up on her too.

The choice is yours to make. Your son, or your ex-daughter-in-law. "I add, before running up the stairs, to my room.

Leaving my old mother confused in the living room. I know she's been dreading this day, but it has come, and she has to make peace with it.
