Under the heavy downpour, a young woman is seen running through the forest, barefoot, a desperate look for survival on her face. She looks haggard and skinny, like she hasn’t eaten for days.
Behind her are Packs of hurling wolves, with glowing golden eyes in hot pursuit. Their intent was glaring on their faces.
Awh! The young woman cries out when a lower tree branch tears into her skin. She bears the pain with a tightened expression, her face not losing the determination driving her escape.
Her heart longs for rest, and her feet weep in pain, but the young woman persists with her escape. She has to leave tonight or she will not survive.
The sight of civilization springs a smile to her face. Maybe someone would help her, she hopes, and fuels her speed with sheer strength. She is running on low, but it doesn’t matter. As long as she can get to the road where people are, and there is someone there to save her from them, then it would all be worth it.
In her bid for survival, she goes to cross the road without looking and meets her end when a car crashes into her.
The wolves all stopped within the boundaries of the forest, watching to see if the young woman had survived.
The driver behind the wheel freezes in shock at the incident. His brain was dazed at the sudden appearance of the young woman. She came out of nowhere, he mutters loudly, as if the words absolve him of what he has done.
“Are you not going to check on her?” A deep voice speaks from the owner’s angle. The man’s features are hidden by the darkness of the night, and only his piercing blue eyes can be seen.
The driver snaps out of his shock immediately. Yes, boss, he mutters with utmost respect, and hurriedly leaves the car.
As soon as he leaves, the man feels a stir in his spirit. A beckoning to check on the woman who has fallen into their car. He knows not why he feels such a strong pull toward the woman.
He goes to ignore it, when his driver’s words ring out loudly into the night. Boss! She is still alive!
The man drops the business paper he was using to occupy his time on his ride home and steps out of the car. His tall and imposing figure dwarfs the car.
The sight of him strikes fear in the hearts of the wolves watching from the edges of the forest.
He senses their presence and immediately looks in their direction. They all flinch away at the sight of his eerie blue eyes. Falling further back into the forest.
The man smirks to himself at their action, glad to know that the wolves still knew their place. He walks to where his driver kneels beside the fallen young woman. He freezes when his eyes fall on the young woman’s face.
An angel is the word that comes to his mind as he gawks at her face. He feels a weird tugging in his chest to protect the young woman, and even his beast stirs at the presence of the woman.
“Who are you?”
Unintentionally, he speaks his thoughts out loud.
“What?” His driver whirls around to face him, but the man ignores his curiosity and bends to the woman on the floor. Her state tells a tale of long suffering and abuse, which, to his surprise, arouses a deep fury inside him.
“What happened to you?” He once again speaks his thoughts out loud in a low tone as he lifts the woman into his arms. His driver is right. The woman is still alive. A testament to her will to leave.
He looks down at her unconscious face, his expression softening as he gazes upon its smooth and unblemished skin. The need to protect the woman from anything that wants to harm her stirs up in him, causing his grip to tighten possessively against the woman’s body.
The driver walking behind him is amazed at his Master’s gentleness with the woman. He has never seen him act with such care toward anyone.
Among the wolves, someone speaks out as they watch the event unfolding a few distances away from them. “What do we do, boss?”
Someone else answers his question. “She is in the clutches of the Lycan King; I am sure she is finished.” The voice sounded excited at the demise of the young woman.
They all know how much the Lycans despise their kind and never tolerate their presence. The young woman falling into the hands of the Lycan King spells doom for her. Maybe he would help finish what they started.
The rest of the Pack echoes his dark amusement, except for the Alpha, whose eyes remained fixed on the road, his expression unreadable through his wolf's face.
His Pack waits for him to speak, but he doesn’t say a word. Instead, he turns and walks away.
Inside the car, while cradling the unconscious blue-eyed woman, the man takes his phone and calls his doctor, letting him know he is coming.
A few minutes later, they arrived at the hospital and were met by a grey-haired man in a doctor’s coat. The man takes them to the private wing of the hospital, requesting the presidential suite.
In the room, the man sits calmly and watches as doctors and nurses attend to the woman. When they finished, the grey-haired doctor approached him with a grave look on his face.
“What is it?” The man questions.
The doctor shakes his head, his heart heavy at what he found out. “Who is she?” He asks.
“I don’t know,” the man answers honestly, causing the doctor’s eyes to widen. Since he has known the man before him, he has never seen him care for anything outside the small circle he calls family.
“Um, the young woman has been through hell.”
The man’s blank expression doesn’t change. “I can see that. What else?”
“I believe she has also been sexually abused.”
At his words, the man’s expression changes, a dark cloud appearing on his face. The look in his blue eyes terrifies the doctor that who looks uncomfortable, wanting to escape the blue-eyed man’s presence.
“Thank you for your help. I will see that you are greatly rewarded,” he promises, his voice cold and detached.
The doctor waves his hand, refuting the man’s promise of reward. “No need, Mr Helix. You have done so much for this hospital that we can’t take money from you.”
“I pay for the services I receive,” Eros tells the doctor with a note of finality in his voice.
The doctor nods and leaves the room with the rest of his team, leaving Eros alone with the young woman.
RAVEN’S POVA tap on the shoulder wakes me up from sleep, but I quickly dose off again when I stole a glance at the bedside clock to find that it is too early. Maybe a figment of my imagination, I reasoned, drifting off again. I mean no sane person wakes up at 4 am. The tap comes again, drawing me out of sleep, and rousing my annoyance. I hiss as I smack the hand off my body. I was about to drift again when I heard it. A low deep chuckle. My eyes snaps open, and I turn my head in its direction. My heart leaps to my throat when it encounters Dimitri’s twinkling blue eye, but his amused expression clears once our eyes meet. He sits beside dressed as if on his way for a run. His sleeveless vest exposed his muscular arms, and I couldn’t help stealing a glance or two at them. “Ready for your training?” his baritone voice snags my attention from his muscles, sending shivers down my spine. I blink at him, slightly confused. I believe I am still half asleep. Which normal person functions
DIMITRI POVI am in my office pouring over work files when a knock sounds on the door dragging my attention away from the laptop screen before me. I look toward the door, and bids them entrance. I go back to the files, the sound of the door knob turning cutting through the silence in the room. The door opens and someone walks in. I look up when I feel them before my desk. From the spicy scent circulating the room, I already know who it is. “Sire,” she greets. I lift my eyes slowly to meet her serious ones. “You are late,” I say without preamble, cocking a brow at her. “I am sorry. It took more time than I anticipated to uncover her story,” she responds with a blank expression. I wonder if she knows how annoying her impassive face is. “So you found something?” I gaze at her curiously. She nods. “She is a wolf,” she blurts out, shocking me. My brows climbs to my hairline. I struggled to believe her words. If the brunette is a wolf I will know. I mean even Xero herself thought h
“Who is she?” I snap out of my thoughts at her question and glance at her. She is staring forward, her expression unreadable, but she sounded curious. It is obvious she is asking about Isabella. “A friend.” Her head snaps in my direction, her expression reads she doesn’t believe me, and I don’t blame her, but that is the safest answer I have right now. I don’t explain further and she doesn’t question me further. We get close to Isabella and my boys and I could see the look of frustration on their faces. Isabella being who she is could try the patient of a saint. She is very high demanding and bossy. Our arrival attracts their attention and they stop arguing to watch us as I parked the car. Raven steps out of the car before I could come around, but she waits for me before approaching the boys and Isabella. Isabella doesn’t wait for me to get to her, but makes her way to me with a broad grin on her face. When she gets to me she throws her arms around my neck and kisses. Shocked b
DIMITRI POVHonestly, I don’t know why I claimed her baby. But when I turned to her, I answered. “Because I have always wanted a child.” Her eyes widens, and I smile. “What? Do someone like me not deserve a child?” I am not ignorant as to how most perceive me, and it is a reputation well deserved. I had fought for my seat, and to my people, strength and ruthlessness is power, and I do not regret my past. She doesn’t say anything and faces front. I assumed the conversation is over and starts the car. “And me being your mate?” She questions into the silence, a few minutes into our journey home. I look at her again, but she is staring out of the window. I couldn’t see her face to read what she is thinking. As a Lycan I can read her thoughts if I want to, but I didn’t want to invade her privacy. I remember Xero’s words earlier this morning and ask. “Do you read minds?” Her head snaps in my direction with an obvious surprised expression. “What?” Maybe I am overthinking things. The s
