Chapter 1

Elena POV

"I, Elena Lockhart accept your rejection," I declared and the blood thread that bonded I and my mate Alpha Damien broke. A sharp pain cussed through my body making me regret my decision. This was the last time I would ever have a mate again. 

"It is good that you realized your place you lowlife. I thought you were not wise enough to abide by my rule," Alpha Damien, my cruel mate scuffed at me.

I never understood the reason why he hated me so much. Ever since he found out I was his mate, he taunted me mercilessly until I had no other choice but to reject him.

Alpha Damien was a cold and reticent person. He never let other people close and those who dared to defy him were sent to an endless abyss full of hell.

The first time I met him was during a hunt, I was out picking some fruits in the woods when I was sixteen. He had almost killed me thinking I was some forest animal. However, he knew nothing of me and questioned one of the guards who had accompanied him of my identity.

He was told that I was an orphan rogue without a pack that had gone extinct two years ago. That day, he ordered that I leave his pack stating that rogues were not accepted under his territory. But the old woman who took me in pleaded for my sake and ended up beaten before I was allowed to live in his pack.

Still, his taunts never stopped. He kept on bullying me and made my life in his pack a living hell. With time, he turned me into his maid and brutally maltreated me until I begged for my life. Today was one of those days.

Two days ago, there was a full moon and it was the day the moon goddess granted new adult wolves their mates. That day, I turned eighteen only to find out that Alpha Damien was my mate.

I thought he would reduce the way he ill-treated me once he discovered that I was his mate but that was worse. Me being his mate seemed like a sin. 

He locked me up for two days without food after he had his guards whip me in front of his people. My only cause was being his mate.

Immediately he asked me to reject him, I didn't hesitate to break the bond to get my freedom. 

"Now that I have granted you your wish, I beg for you to let me leave your pack as I no longer have any use to you anymore," I shook from the pain he had inflicted on me. However, my words infuriated him and he attempted to smack me but held himself back. Instead, he smashed the glass vase in his room which ended up cutting some part of my skin as it's pieces scattered everywhere.

"Guards!," he yelled and two hefty wolves appeared ready to follow his command. "I say when you leave and when you stay. Lock her up," he pushed me to the ground making pieces of the broken glass pierce my skin.

I cried silently as his guards pulled me away from his presence. After they dumped me in the cold cell, I began to question my heart for being too gullible. Even after everything Alpha Damien made me pass through, I couldn't bring myself to hate him.

To be honest, I had fallen in love with him that day I saw him in the woods. My entire body reacted on its own, freezing me to the ground instead of running and cowering in fear that my life was almost taken away from me. He was a handsome demon that I was attracted to.

I always thought that one day everything he did to me would come to an end and he would see me in a good light. But all of that was just dreams I wished for, Alpha Damien was too ruthless to love anyone not even someone as low as me in status.

As I tried to heal myself from the bruises he had caused on my skin, a guard appeared in front of my cell and called out to me.

"Hey you, there is someone here to see you. Be quick before the Alpha sees us," he said and I was shocked to hear his words.

Who dared to defy the Alpha's command? Only death awaited those who did so, but when a frail figure appeared from behind the guard, my entire body froze.

Lily, a fellow maid like me had signed her death wish just by coming down here to meet me.

"Are you out of your mind?" I asked rushing up to her as I was afraid that I would never see her again. Worst of all, she was human.

"I'm not, I came to help you out of here. I overheard the Alpha speaking to his Gamma to have you killed. I won't let you suffer for no just reason please follow me and let us escape this hellhole together," she audaciously muttered breathing fear into my body.

Only a mad person would pay heed to her words. Alpha Damien was not the kind to deal with, even if I followed her to run away, he would still find us and have us killed on the spot.

"You need to go away Lily, please I will never forgive myself if anything bad happens to you. We cannot escape here and you know that," I pushed her away reclining back into my cell.

"I have a friend who exports goods to the neighboring countries. If we are able to escape tonight then we will be free and live the life we have always dreamed," she said but I was too adamant to listen. 

Yes, we had beautiful dreams together. It was full of bliss and laughter, us playing in a valley with flowers that bloomed from the cause of spring. But that dream was clipped for me, the only thing I could see was the cold glare of Alpha Damien and the pain he had caused me. That dream was long dashed.

"Young maid, your time is up, we have to leave before someone finds us," the guard who was looking after us mentioned as he trembled in fear.

His life was also at stake. I pitied him because nothing would save him if Alpha Damien or any of his loyal subjects were to catch him. He was nothing but a mere guard.

"Save yourselves, I'm already a dead person. I can't stand you two getting hurt because of me. Please tell Nana that I'm sorry for not surviving. Tell her that I tried," I told Lily to refer to the old woman who had taken care of me when I was lost. It would be so cruel of me to leave this way without saying a proper goodbye.

"I'm sorry about this, but I think someone is coming," the guard hurriedly carried Lily away in order to prevent them from getting killed. I remained silent as the impeding footsteps approached my cell.

"Tied her up and take her to the Alpha," A stern voice resounded through my cell and before I could say a word, I was knocked out and carried away.
