Chapter 8

Elena's POV

I searched everywhere for them filled with anxiety. Regret washed over me for leaving them home alone. I should have come back earlier.

The neighborhood was cold and quiet and knocking at people's doors was the last thing I wanted to do. Neighbors who lived here were very self centered and disturbing their evening would only get them annoyed.

"Zekel, Zekria," I called out. When I couldn't hear or see any sign of them, I ruffled my hair in frustration.

This was the consequence of being a bad mom. Now, I have lost my kids and don't know what must have happened to them.

I squatted down along the pathway of the street and began to cry out loud.

"Mommy?" I heard zekel's voice.

"Mommy, why are you outside by this time of the night? Do you know how dangerous it is to walk around unprotected? Someone can try to harm you so please, stay indoors when you don't have a guard around you," they cautioned me even though they did the exact thing.

But that didn't bother me now, all that mattered was them being safe.

"Where did the two of you go? I thought I strictly warned you countless times about leaving the house without my knowledge. You two scared the hell out of me," I groaned holding them tight.

"You don't have to worry mommy, someone protected us until we got to you. We noticed he just moved in beside us. So we went to say hello. He is quite grumpy but deep down, he is very kind," Zekel said.

A stranger took care of them? I looked around in search of the person so that I could thank him or her. But there was no sign of them.

"Oh, mommy he left. There was an important matter he needed to attend. I am sure you will meet him next time. Now come let's go back home. Did you eat anything yet?" Zekria asked cutely.

I took their hands and walked towards our home. My fear has been relinquished and but this behavior of theirs has shown me the reason why I should get them a nanny.

"Mommy, brought something nice for us to eat. It's your favorite cheese pizza," I chimmed excitedly as we walked back to our house.

After tucking them in their bed, I went out to check the balcony. I had this feeling that someone was watching us but changed when I looked around and saw no one.

Instead of going to sleep, I went to my study and began to do research on the company's current sales. Tomorrow was Saturday and I had to be at work.

The files were corresponding with the sales and all that was needed for the targeted amount to raise was six percent of the company's sales.

That could be achieved if we put more effort this weekend. Once I was done with everything that was on my desk, I tiredly dozed off until the next morning.

"Mommy, you are seriously developing a bad habit of sleeping in your office. Don't you know that it is very uncomfortable to stay in such a position. Ugh! Come on you are already late to work," Zekel patted my cheeks and I woke up instantly.

I looked at the time and panicked when I saw ten-thirty. This was stupid of me, I had overslept and missed the most important part of the day.

Dashing up to my room, I took a quick shower and left for work. My kids were kind to help me out but leaving them alone again was something I couldn't risk.

Since I was worried, I decided to take them to my friend's place.

"Please look after them for me, mwah, love you," I said in a rush.

I got to the company exactly at eleven. Kira was busy at her desk when I came in. Thankfully, she put things in order and everyone stayed focused on their jobs.

"Good morning, director," she greeted with a cheerful smile.

"Good morning, thank you for being the best secretary. So what do we have on board? Any improvement so far?" I asked going straight to business.

"Yes, everything is going in order. The product is surprisingly scale up and a lot of customers are buying it with good reviews. I hope that everything will go accordingly," Kira answered exactly what I wanted to hear.

She gave me the file of the increased prices and how the reviews has been dropping in. Whatever the production team leader did, it sure helped the sales.

I took the remaining documents that needed my attention and entered my office. Just as I was about to sit down, the investor that had plans with the company called.

"Good day, Sir."

"Good day, I have seen your progressing sales. You are better than that former director. Seeing what you have done has given me the livers to put my money in your company," he praised.

"Thank you sir, but i won't have been able to reach all this without my team and the employees too. They are great hard workers," I said not taking all the credit.

"Humble and modest as well. You have my word, I will surely back you in anything you wish to do. Wednesday, would be best to pay your company a visit and also conclude the signing. Have a nice day," he stated his wish and intentions and I gladly accepted it as long as he was going to invest with us.

After talking with him, I went deep into my work. Everything was going as planned and I didn't have an issue until the end of the day.

As I got down from my office, I heard noises at the lobby. People were also gathered and a woman was yelling nonstop.

"Where is that witch? I will tire her apart! You all should better bring her out or I will call the police this instinct," she screamed at everyone.

"What is going on here?" I asked getting involved with the matter.

"And who are you?" She rudely spat out.

"Madam, you are causing a nuisance here. If you don't act like a proper woman then I am afraid that I would have to call the security," I warned her but she stayed adamant and continued with her noise.

I had no choice but to call the security on here.

"You all should go back home and get some rest tomorrow is going to be another busy day. As for that woman, keep her off the premises. I don't want her causing any trouble here. If you are the only she is seeking, do come to my office tomorrow," I said overly tired from all the work I had done. I need some rest and my children too have to return.

"What a day," I mumbled and went to the underground garage of the company.

As I walked towards my car, I sensed someone watching me. I became afraid and quickly walked to my car. However, my hands were fidgeting making it impossible for me to insert my key into the start hole.

I struggled to calm myself down but only got more terrified when I heard someone knock on my door. It was the security man and he had come to say goodbye. But I still felt that someone was watching me.
