Chapter 4

Six years later...

Gena POV

"Mommy, I want to eat cake!," “Mommy, I want water," my babies whined throwing me off place.

"I'm coming, can you two give me a break already? I still have work to attend to. Now come here Zekria and you too Zekel," I said putting on their school uniforms.

"But mommy you promised to buy us cake yesterday. An adult never goes back on their words," Zekel insisted on his words and I finally gave up.

"Okay, okay, I will buy you a cake so please put on your shoes," I begged him and he agreed the same goes for his sister.

My twins were two articulated kids never to be messed with. They were both smart but Zekria was more introverted than Zekel.

And right now, I was the one suffering all the hell since their father had long gone to work.

"Alright, now it's time to eat breakfast," I chimed but they frowned at me and still at their spot.

"Don't bother with making breakfast for us Mommy. Just buy us the cake you promised. You do know that your food does not taste so good," Zekria said making my heart shattered into pieces.

It was the truth, a hard truth. I wasn't really good at cooking. However, my husband did most of the food work while I cleaned and did the laundry.

"Okay, Mommy will stick to buying the cake," I decided to listen to them in order not to turn the kitchen into a mess.

I drove down to the closest pastry shop and bought their favorite chocolate cake before driving them to school.

"Bye, bye mommy. Don't forget to pick us up early. No one will like it if you do," Zekria reminded me before running off to meet up with her brother who was waiting for her at their school gate. I waved at them until they were inside before I drove down to my workplace.

"Good morning Gena," my colleagues greeted me as I joined them inside the elevator. My job wasn't something that big but I was grateful that my husband let me work with him as his secretary.

He was the company's post director. He managed the activities of the branch he was assigned to. In general, the name of the company we worked for was called the Golden Empire.

It was extremely big and handled a lot of divisions. Golden Air, Golden Empire, Golden Hotel, and other subsidiaries.

My husband Ethan, managed the golden hotel. I was only made his secretary two weeks after the main boss had strictly wanted his former fired.

"Good morning my love," I greeted him as soon as I entered his office. He got up and embraced me warmly.

"You finally got the kids to school. I'm sorry I didn't want you up. I thought that you were tired so I let you sleep more," he slightly pecked my lips making me smile at his kind gesture.

"I had a wonderful night thanks to you," I pecked him back before I let go of him. I didn't want anyone to know that Ethan was my husband. Having them know would only make things worse for me at the office.

"Lord Ethan, the president is here," Sarah, a junior secretary to me rushed into the office immediately after I had left.

Ethan got out of his office panicking a bit but I stopped him and calmed him down.

"Easy, you will only make a mistake if you panic. I know the president can be terrifying but you shouldn't show any atom of fear towards him. That would only make him strong," I arranged his tie making him feel relaxed.

"Thank you, Gena, now come let us go welcome him together," he took my hand and we walked into the elevator together. Once we were in the presence of other people, we became distant like strangers.

Ethan rushed up to the entrance and bowed waiting for the president to get out of his car. I stood by the end of the line bowing my head as we waited patiently for him.

However, a woman with red hair stepped out first before he followed suit. This was my first time seeing the president. He was coldly looking as people said and I noticed the darker circles under his eyes. He must really be loyal to his work for him to have such black eyes.

"Welcome Mr President, it is good to see you in a healthy mood," Ethan said and I felt his words were wrong. This man looked nothing close to healthy.

"Healthy? Is that an insult?" the president glared at Ethan making him tremble in fear.

"No, sir. I was just trying to say you looked good in the suit you are wearing," Ethan found an alternative to make as an excuse which helped him. The president turned away from him, before trudging into the hotel with the Red haired woman holding his arm.

As they walked in, everyone dispersed to their various workplaces while we the secretaries followed him behind.

"The account record of the hotel doesn't correspond to the estimated digits, why is that so Ethan?" the president asked once he was seated at the hotel meeting room for staff.

"Sir, everything is as it is supposed to be, I doubt that there is any sort of error," Ethan replied making me feel nervous. I knew when my husband was lying and right now he was.

I looked straight at him hoping that he would tell the truth but his next action shocked me. He raised his hand and pointed his index finger at me.

"My secretary is the one that handles every activity that goes on with the accounts. If there is anything you need to know, please do feel free to ask her," Ethan muttered and I stared at him confused. Suddenly, a smirk appeared on his face but got wiped away, as the dreadful president stood in front of me.

"And what is your name my lovely fellow," he said and I felt a sudden nostalgia. His last words seemed like something I had heard before now.

"My name is Gena," I answered peering into his deep ocean blue eyes that sucked my soul into abyss.

"Ah, Gena, can you give me a full detail of the accounts book of the hotel," he requested and I remained mute not knowing what to say.

I had never had of an account book talk less of seeing the digits the account contained. Plus this was my third week as an employee in his company.  So how the hell was I supposed to explain the account records to him?

'Was Ethan joking with me right now? Is he insane!' I thought in my mind looking for a way to clear myself.

"Er,...the...um," I stuttered.

"Don't bother I see that you have no idea of what the record says. That brings me back to you Ethan, why would you put the pressure on your poor secretary?.... Your wife," I saw the president mouth the word and before we knew what happened, Ethan was gone.

"Dear secretary, do you want to take over? The position is now vacant. I hope you won't make things worse than him," the president stared deep into my eyes like he was able to see my soul.

"Sir, please where is lord Ethan?" I asked worried about my husband. He just vanished from the office without anyone's knowledge. I quit looking down and stared back at him, instead of him giving me an answer, he smirked sending chills down my spine. One thing that could come to my mind was evil. The damn man was evil.

"You will find him soon, now get back to work and make all the necessary arrangements. Next week, I want all documents ready for explanation. And make up the lost bills, I don't want to hire a new director again," he referred to me before he and the red haired woman left. Never for once did she speak but her eyes lingered on me like I had committed something bad.

Everyone dissembled and went back to their various walk positions. But I couldn't stop thinking of what happened to Ethan. I paused my work and searched the entire building for him.

There was absolutely no way for me to be the director. What would happen to Ethan? he would resent me forever. I took away his dream job but didn't he bring this upon himself? how could he point his finger at me when I knew nothing of the records?

'Oh hell, I'm going to break him once we get back home. How dare he accuse me falsely? does he not love me anymore?' I vented in my mind as I opened the door that accessed the rooftop.

I looked around but found no one, 'where the hell did Ethan go?.'

As I thought of different possibilities of where he might have gone, my legs directed me to the edge of the rooftop and there, I saw Ethan....

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh."
