I left at 2am.

`Kieran, I can’t let him hurt them because of me. I’ll go to the Shadow King. Alone. Don’t follow me. - Rejoice`I packed nothing. Just the dress on my back and the gold on my neck.
The territory was quiet.
No guards at the back gate. I knew the route.I made it 3 miles into the woods.
“Going somewhere, Mrs. Blackwood?”
I froze.
Kieran was leaning against a tree. Arms crossed.
Not angry. Hurt.“How—”
“I’m your mate,” he said. “I feel when you’re lying in your sleep.”
Tears hit my eyes. “You weren’t supposed to follow me.”
“And you weren’t supposed to leave me.” He stepped forward. “7 days. That’s what we have. And you’re going to waste it by running?”
“It’s to protect them!” I yelled. “Don’t you get it? He wants ME! If I go, the pack is safe!”
“No,” Kieran said. Quiet. “The pack isn’t safe if you’re gone.”
“What?”
Kieran grabbed my shoulders. “Do you think I care about the territory? The title? The money?”
He shook his head. “I care about you. The pack cares about you. You’re their Luna. You healed their kids.”“That’s why I have to go!”
“No.” Kieran pulled me into his arms. Hard. “That’s why you have to stay.”
I cried into his chest. “What if he kills you? What if he kills everyone?”
“Then we die together,” Kieran whispered in my hair. “Not alone.”
The bond between us pulsed. Gold and warm.
“I’m so scared,” I whispered.
“Me too,” Kieran admitted. “Every day since I met you. But I’m more scared of a world without you in it.”
He pulled back and wiped my tears.
“So. Are we going home? Or do I have to kidnap my own wife?”I laughed through tears. “You’re impossible.”
“You love me anyway.”
“I do.”
We started walking back.
Halfway there, my phone buzzed.
Unknown: `5 days left. I see you tried to run. Cute. - The Shadow King`
My blood went cold.
Kieran read it and his jaw clenched. “He’s watching us.”
“Always,” I whispered.
When we got back, the pack house was lit up.
Everyone was awake.And in the middle of the courtyard was Mae.
In fighting gear.She looked at me. Then at Kieran.
“Took you long enough,” she said.“Mae?”
“I’m not letting my sister walk into hell alone.” Mae cracked her knuckles. “So. What’s the plan to kill a king?”
Kieran looked at me. Proud.
Then at the pack. 200 wolves standing behind us.“War,” Kieran said. “We prep for war.”
Cheers went up.
I looked at my husband. At my sister. At my pack.
For the first time, I wasn’t scared.
Because I wasn’t alone.The Shadow King wanted the Gold Bond.
