Chapter 7

Maeve POV

It’s been three days since I got here, and I haven’t done much. I stayed out of everyone’s way, stayed in the room, and only went to the pond. Sometimes I go alone, or Maya goes with me. I have been getting a lot of stares, and anytime I pass by people, they always bow their heads in greeting. I don’t know why they do that.

I am not their alpha. They don’t need to bow their heads. I only come out when I am heading to the pond, but today Ario wants to speak with me. I don’t know what he wants to tell me, but I am eager to hear what he wants to say, so right now I stand behind his door, knocking softly.

“Come in,” his deep voice boomed from behind the door, sending pleasure down my spine. The bond is straining; I don’t feel it that much because I rejected him, but technically we are still mates because he didn’t verbally say the words, so I still feel the bond sometimes. I took a deep breath, opening the door, and I got a slap of his scent, but I ignored it, walking silently
