View MoreThe sound of alarm blared in the small, bright room occupied by a young woman. She turned and dropped her brush on the table before walking over to her bed to turn the alarm off.
Jane was less enthusiastic about the new day, she had woken up earlier than her alarm and rushed to get ready for work. The whole office had been preparing for this day because apparently, the boss was back in town. The workload from previous days was weighing heavily on her shoulders and she quietly cursed this boss of hers. Jane was still new to West&Co, having started work just a few months ago. She had never met her boss, but stories from her coworkers already fostered a strong dislike towards him. They had talked about how he was precise with everything, and the extra work that had to be done for his arrival. Letting out an exhausted sigh, she sat down on her dresser chair and combed her hair before putting it in a tight bun. She stared at herself in the mirror and forced a tight lipped smile. Jane knew the day was going to be hectic, and she was slightly prepared. ———— The scorching sun beat down as Jane drove her BMW into the parking lot adjacent to her office building. “Today seems much more packed and busier than usual,” Jane murmured, noticing the rows of unfamiliar cars parked in the building. Not giving it much thought, she drove her car forward, her eyes scanning the crowded parking lot for an empty spot, and finally saw one. Jane maneuvered her car till she was perfectly parked in the space, then turned off her engine. Just as Jane was about to open the car door, the sound of a loud crash boomed, her car jerked forward with force as she let out a scream. Hurriedly, she pulled the car door handle before jumping out of the car. Someone or something had hit her car from behind and she felt her heart skipping beats as her eyes widened in fear and anger. Jane whipped her head to the left and saw the dark Benz that had crashed into her car, she tried to look into the window to see the driver but the windows were tinted. Getting up, she dusted her suit pants and top before storming over to the other car and banging at the window, demanding that the driver roll it down. “You just crashed into my car!” She yelled as the tinted windows moved down, revealing the driver. In the driver seat, a young man in his mid 30s, turned to face her, his expression uninterested and bored. “You parked in my space,” he said in a deep, smooth voice that sent chills down her spine. He had shiny brown hair, perfectly styled at the top of his head and broad shoulders. His lips were set in a firm line, and his dark eyes narrowed slightly as he gazed at her. Jane scoffed in disbelief, “Excuse you?! Are you crazy?! This parking lot is not your property!” She yelled at the stranger in front of her. “It is,” he simply replied, his voice unyielding. Her anger reached a boiling point and she was sure she was going to explode, “You don’t own a space here and you are going to pay for damaging my car, I’m calling the cops!” She replied, suppressing the overwhelming urge to slap him. “Your car would’ve ended up at the repair shop anyways, it looks beaten,” he replied, raising a brow at her. Jane had had enough. She turned, walked towards a stone laying on the ground, picked it up and marched towards his car. The man's eyes widened in shock as he realised what she was about to do, but it was too late. She raised the stone and hurled it at his windshield, a sharp smile spreading across her face, “Now, we’re even.” He stepped out of his car, his tailored suit showcasing his muscular build. His face twisted in anger and he snarled, “You bitch! How dare you?!” Jane ignored him and walked towards the building, a satisfied smile spreading across her face now that she has taught the rude, arrogant, jerk a lesson. “You will regret this!” He shouted, his voice through the parking lot. Jane chuckled to herself, flipping him the bird before striding into the door to her office building. “Jane! Where have you been? Mark is losing his mind,” Jess called out as soon as Jane stepped into the building. “Morning to you too, Jess,” her tired voice called out, this morning had already been chaotic enough for her. Jess let out a sigh and walked over to Jane, taking her bag from her. She ran over to her desk and dropped it, removing her ID and clipped it on her shirt. “Come on, let’s go. All the executives are already on the top floor. The Boss has arrived,” Jess said. Grabbing her arm, she pulled her towards the elevator and without a word, Jane followed. They arrived at the top and made their way over to the conference room, where they took seats at the long table. Few minutes had passed before the door to the office burst open and he walked in. “Ladies and gentlemen, Our CEO has arrived,” the executive manager announced, and the room fell silent as everyone stood up to welcome him. Jane felt her eyes widen in complete horror and shock as she beheld the face of their boss. “Welcome back, Mr. West,” the executive manager said, “It’s an honor to have you with us again.” He finished. Everyone in the room applauded as they welcomed him but Jane felt her face pale in shock. Her mind went haywire as her body froze. Because standing in front of her was the stranger whose car she had vandalized. His face remained stoic, his expression angry, until his piercing gaze met her. Her heart leapt from her ribcage as it pounded wildly in her chest. Mr. West gaze locked onto hers, a wicked smirk spreading across his face.Jane blinked, trying to remain calm and indifferent as her heart shuddered inn her chest. “What do you mean?” Jane asked, carefully scanning Erica’s face. Erica simply sighed, reaching for the glass of water on the table, “I shouldn’t have said that, forget I did.” She said quietly. Jane narrowed her eyes. “Erica…”“I mean it, Jane. Just… don’t mind me.” Erica replied, brushing it off with an awkward laugh. Jane didn’t press further–for now. But she knew damn well she wasn’t going to forget either. Erica’s words had finally confirmed something was going on. ~~~It was early evening and the skies overheard darkened as the clouds rolled in. Jane hit the accelerator, her mind racing, unsure on what to think. She and Erica had a good time and Jane was beyond grateful for the time they had spent together. Even though Erica tried to brush it off, her words continued to ring at the back of Jane's mind. Was Erica referring to the picture she had seen? Jane suspected there was mor
Jane stood unmoving, still staring at the picture in shock. Her eyes moved from the one she guessed was Liam to the other person. They looked exactly the same. The same facial expression, the same face, smile and eyes. The resemblance between the two was uncanny and even she couldn’t tell who her husband was. Her hold on the frame tightened as her thoughts began to race. Could it be a twin? A brother? She wondered why Liam had never mentioned it. As far as she knew, Liam was the only son. That was exactly what her dad had said to her too. “What are you doing?” Jane jumped, startled by the sound of Liam’s voice. The frame slipped from her hand and hit the floor, the glass shattering into pieces. “Oh my God, uh…” Jane muttered, panicking as she bent to to gather the pieces. “I don’t remember giving you permission to rummage through my things Jane,” Liam said, walking over r to her and staring down at her with a deep frown. “I…I’m sorry. I…” Jane stammered, still shaken that
Rainwater continued to beat against the closed windows as the sounds of storm and rain filled the kitchen. Jane had a drink in one hand and her phone in the other, staring out the clouded window, lost in thought. Work that day had been hectic for Jane and she had come back home with hope to speak with Liam. Not just to fish information about the state of his company or the discussions she had overheard during their trip, but just to… speak with him. Jane had to admit, she was beginning to get used to having Liam around. Tonight, Liam wasn’t home. Perry had informed Jane about the message he left earlier.. It was now past midnight, but he still hadn’t returned. She had no idea what to make of it. Trying not to worry too much seemed futile because couldn’t help it. Unless… “Fiona,” Jane finally muttered. It made some sense now. Liam could be out there having a good time with his ‘girlfriend’, while she stayed home worried about him. “Silly me,” Jane let out a breathy chuc
The journey to Fiona’s penthouse was a short one. By the time Liam arrived, it was ten minutes past eight and he hoped Fiona wasn’t going to go crazy on him. With the events going on in his company, he hoped she’d be a bit considerate. But once again, he was wrong. Immediately Liam swiped his key card to her apartment and got in, a vase was hurled at him, aiming for his head. He was quick enough to move to the side, and the vase smashed into the door, shattering to pieces. “You’re late,” Fiona said calmly, as if she had not just aimed to smash his skull. Luckily, Liam was partly used to this already, “I’m sorry babe. My day was more hectic than I expected.” “Of course. It was hectic because you spent your time cuddling with that bitch!” “Watch your mouth, Fiona. You will not speak about Jane in that manner,” Liam warned. He had tried to be calm and treat Fiona with the affection she deserved, but what she wasn’t going to do was speak about Jane. Liam had no idea why h
It was already the next day. Jane scrambled around her room, trying to find her favourite flats. She had received a 6am panic call from Mark, which meant, their day was going to be busier than usual. Apparently, plans within the company has been leaked to the press and more scandals are coming. There seemed to be a rat among them and they’d been tasked to fish them out. Jane was going to speak with Liam about it, but for now, she needed to head to work and gather as many details as she could. After putting on her flats and straightening her suit jacket, Jane grabbed her bag and ran down the stairs—then paused. The smell of fresh bacon and eggs wafted through the air making her stomach grumble. ‘Liam’s making breakfast when his company is under media pressure?’ Jane thought. She decided she was going to confront Liam since he seemed not to care as much as his employees did. Jane walked into the kitchen, already prepared on what to say. But she paused again. It wasn’t just
Jane looked at Liam. This time, she really looked at him. His laugh made her smile so hard, her cheeks began to hurt. She had never seen Liam laugh so much. He looked so handsome, free and happy and it was oddly satisfying. She wasn’t even sure what she had said was that funny, but she wasn’t about to ruin this moment with Liam. Liam laughed to his heart's content, then wiped away a stray tear, “Yeah, he must be a really sexy, hot, handsome freak. I know guys like him,” he said with a smile. Jane raised a brow. It was rare to see Liam joke around like this with her. “Ehh, freak? Yes. Not sure about the rest tho,” she said with a shrug, playing along. Liam let out a deep chuckle before going back to his meal. They both ate in silence for a while, sneaking hidden glances at each other for reasons both didn’t know or understand. A few minutes later, Liam packed up the dishes while Jane cleaned the tables. They were done with dinner and exhaustion weighed on both of them as they
