She did not look at him when she told him she knew this person or when she said that this boy had not been much older than Victor was perceived. It was only when she told him that she had known this boy at the orphanage that she looked at him. "He was just a small child when I was there and he never knew that Retribution was the girl he used to sit and talk to about his deceased parents and their home, but he joined their army because I had." He looked at her doubtfully. "He was infatuated with ‘The Silver Hand’ and swore one day to find her and thank her for the help he was certain she had given him in his escape from the orphanage," she paused, "He knew not that he was talking to her when he said it and joined this army because he had heard she was in some way affiliated with it."
Mikail looked at her. He had not known that she had a soft spot for children. This one had obviously meant something to her before
"No, just give me a few hours and change your course to the south for a few miles. We are still near the border. I think I can make sure they are not able to cross the bridge."He studied her for a few moments. She looked like she believed she could do it. From what she said, that was their only chance. "Alright. I will head south for a few miles. Just make sure you don’t get yourself in to deep," he told her quietly. She looked up at him for a second, and then took off.She flew through the forest with all the speed and agility she couldn’t use in the confines of the chain mail she had left on the horse she couldn’t bring with her. When she was in sight of the approaching force, she cursed under her breath in four languages. They were bringing the equipment slowly over the bridge as she watched and were setting camp just this side of it.
Sylvia had known that he would turn on her when she told him what she had done and didn’t feel like hearing what he had to say about it. She had purposefully dressed slower and when he had rounded on her, she was only just starting to tuck one breast into the corset. He had full view of the other. It shut him up as fast as she had imagined it would. The two camps would be almost on top of one another the next night and she intended to go ‘take a closer look at’ several of the siege weapons they were taking with them as well as to thin the numbers some. She knew that Mikail was already planning to engage these troops and hoped to catch them off guard. She intended for him to also find thinner numbers. She couldn’t use the mushrooms again; Mikail would be sure to notice that one. But she could take a page from Venom’s book and make sure they set their camp too close to a patch of snakes... She t
Chapter 14 Embarrassing MomentVictor headed for a nearby tree and changed into Sylvia. She had not decided exactly what she was going to do yet, but time was quickly running out and she needed to drastically reduce their numbers. Then she saw how they had set up the camp again. It was perfect. There was a fire too close to one of the main tents. It only took a few minutes to make sure it spread. Then she headed o
Mikail looked to Ian who immediately ran out of the tent and started waking the camp and ordering them to get their weapons ready. He stood and told Sylvia how bad it was of her to leave without telling them what she was doing or where she would be. She told him flatly that she said she would not allow them to escape if it were in her power to prevent it and that was exactly what she was doing. He had no reply to that one, so they just returned to preparing for the battle. When they were prepared as they could be, they left the tent and found the rest of the camp was doing the same. They led the men through the shortcut to the bridges the enemy would be trying to cross in a matter of minutes. As they were arriving at the bridges, so were the other soldiers. The battle ensued immediately. It was obvious that they still had superior numbers, but that Captain Tane’s men had superior skill.
"Get the HELL out of the captain’s tent before Idodecide to break you!""You look to be in enough pain that you couldn’t break me if I were unarmed," Emmett said quietly. Victor swept his left leg out from under the light blanket, swept Emmett’s feet from underneath him and held a throwing knife at Emmett’s throat. The movement evoked a small scream of pain, but Victor kept the blade steady, stubbornly refusing to flinch. "I stand...um...lay corrected. You sleep with your weapons?""I trust precious few, Emmett, and you are not on that privileged list." Victor practically spat Emmett’s name, and might have if he had not been talking through clenched teeth."I only came to see how you are," Emmett replied trying not to move his lower jaw for fear that would cause the blade to slice deeper than he thought it already
Chapter 15 Lord KurnWithin the week, Victor’s leg was pronounced healed, they struck the camp, and moved onward. The going was as smooth and fast as could reasonably be expected with a troop of men through forested foothills. As they went, Mikail thought Sylvia was growing more restless, but then again, he thought that he could be imagining things. When he asked Ian he was told that there was something out of the ordinary, but Ian couldn’t figu
"No one would ask you for charity, Lady, your price will be assured by the lord’s own son. Should you need to speak to him, you would only need to wait at the tree by the river at noon for him to take his daily ride." She looked at the man who seemed to be aging before his time and worn with worry and fear. She placed the money for her drink that she had finished and the meal that had yet to arrive on the table."I have ordered a plate that I must abandon due to a change in my schedule. See to it that my order is paid for and not wasted and I will talk to the son of your lord," she told him as she rose from the table, "You shall not know me again." He nodded consent as she left. He understood that she had paid for a meal she had no intention of eating herself and that he was to see to it that someone else did eat it. Although he did not understand why she would choose to do something like that he did not dare ask and
"This is not for us to eat, Ian, but I will make sure that we get some later," she replied. "Help me move the cage. Don’t worry," she saw the look on his face, "he won’t wake until I tell him to." She held up a dart and Ian smiled. They hauled the cage for a long distance until they were close to the private riding area of Lord Kurn. Sylvia put the squirrel in a bush next to the trail and covered a rag in its blood. "Wait here, Ian, I’ll be back in a little while."She took off and he lost sight of her.Great! More waiting. Just what I wanted. He said to himself. He plopped himself down next to the cage.Sylvia saddled the horse and spread the blood on the horse’s breast. Lord Kurn came into the barn to prepare his horse for his daily ride. "Who are you and why have you saddled my horse?" he demanded."My Lord," she said u
