Chapter Forty

Mazelina

“Mazy.” someone whispers. “Mazy.”

I groan and roll over. “Please let me sleep.” My head is pounding. I didn’t think I had that much to drink last night, but it seems I was really on one.

“Mazy wake-up, we’re in danger!”

I sit up and groan again, holding my head, “Samara? Where have you been?”

“We’re in great danger, Mazelina. You need to gather yourself.”

“For what?”

“Well, hello, Mrs Winslow.” A tall pale man with hair so dark it almost blends into the darkness itself surrounding him. If it wasn’t for the little piece of hair that has fallen across his face, I would have said he’s bald.

“Where’s Stella and Aries?”

“Stella is safe and unharmed.” He grins down at me. “It’s been quite the task, capturing you.”

“You should have given up. My people will come for me.”

He shrugs. “Your people are nothing to me.” He eyes me thoughtfully and moves closer. “Is Samara in there?” he taps my head. I shy away from him, but he grabs my chin and makes me face him. “I’d like an answer,
