Kapitel 1

Sansa's POV

I sat at the large dining table, staring at the untouched trays before me.

It was the perfect night, there were scented candle lights, plates of lobster, steak, and roasted vegetables and these were all of Killian’s favorites.

Everything was perfect except for the empty chair across me.

I sighed heavily as I stared at the antique clock.

“Where is he," I mumbled uneasily and tightened my grip around my fork.

At this same time, a soft shuffle of footsteps broke my thoughts and I looked up eagerly.

But it wasn't him.

Madeline, the head maid, was coming with another plate of steaming bacon and our anniversary cake.

“The cake has arrived, ma'am," she smiled at me.

I nodded, looking at the four tier cake with a smile. It was chocolate and sweet cream, Killian's favorite.

"Madeline, is master Killian back?" I asked hopefully.

Her eyes lowered and she shook her head. "No, ma’am. There’s been no sign of him."

The hope deflated but I swallowed, forcing a small smile. “Alright."

“Do you want me to leave these in the fridge?" She asked, looking at all the food.

“No," I replied too quickly, "I'll stay a little longer, he might be in traffic.”

Madeline sighed heavily. I could see that she didn't share that sentiment. But of course, she didn't say that.

"Thank you, Madeline. You can go for the night."

She hesitated for a moment before giving me a sympathetic nod and leaving.

I stared down at my plate. My appetite had vanished. I pushed the food aside and reached for my phone again.

No messages. No missed calls.

Maybe, just maybe, he forgot.

The thought made my chest ache. “No. He wouldn’t forget. He must be busy.” I said comfortingly.

After all, Killian was a powerful man, the CEO of Wolfe Incorporated. He was not sitting idle. I understood that his work was demanding.

But still, this was our anniversary. Our third anniversary, he could have at least called.

I took one more look at the clock on the wall.

I refused to believe this was happening again.

Tonight was our anniversary.

Killian had promised never to forget our anniversary again after last year.

“Maybe he's running late," I decided and then picked up the phone.

I called his private line once more, adding to the thirteen missed calls I'd given him earlier. But once more, it went to voicemail.

That was when I decided to ring his secretary. Luckily, she picked up on the second ring.

“Good evening, Mrs. Wolfe. This is Regina speaking. How may I assist you?”

I cleared my throat, forcing my voice to sound even. "Regina, hi, I was just calling to check if Killian has left the office yet."

There was a pause, a slight hesitation before she spoke again.

"Oh… Mrs. Wolfe, I was actually about to call you."

I was nervous. "About to call me?"

"Yes. Mr. Wolfe will be working late tonight. There’s an important business meeting that requires his attention."

A business meeting?

At this hour?

It was past midnight.

"I see…" I forced out, trying not to sound as broken as I felt, gripping the phone tighter. "Did he ask you to tell me this?"

Another pause.

"No, ma’am. But he’s currently occupied and won’t be available to take calls."

My breath caught in my throat. Killian couldn’t even call me himself.

I swallowed the lump rising in my throat and forced a small, humorless laugh. "Of course. I guess he's a little too busy to call his wife on their anniversary."

"Mrs. Wolfe, I'm sorry, I didn't know, happy anniversary." Regina started, but I cut her off.

"It’s fine, Regina. Thank you for letting me know."

"Of course, ma’am. Have a good night."

I barely whispered, "You too."

The line clicked dead.

Killian wasn't coming home. All of this would be a waste. My makeup, my dress, the surprise dinner, the gift, everything.

I shook my head, unwilling to sit here any longer. I reached for the small black box beside me, the Patek Philippe watch I had custom made for him.

It was worth a few million dollars. A timeless, elegant piece, just like him.

But that wasn't all. My husband deserved the best so I had also booked a private yacht ride, thinking we’d spend the night under the stars, just the two of us.

He doesn't know what he's missing.

Determined to spend tonight with him, I rose from my chair and grabbed my coat. If he wouldn’t come home, I’d bring our anniversary to him. It would be a pleasant surprise.

The drive to Wolfe Enterprises was about an hour. I rarely ever showed up at his workplace, of course Killian didn't like me interrupting his life.

But surely, tonight was different and he'd be pleased to see me.

“Wait in the car, I won't take long," I said to my driver as I grabbed the gift bag from the backseat with a smile and swayed inside.

My heels clicked against the marble floor as I made my way inside. The receptionist desk was empty.

It was about 1:24 a.m. no one was at work. But I could see the lights on the top floor, no doubt, my husband was still working.

The ride up was smooth, but my heart fluttered nervously.

Soon, the doors slid open and I stepped into the dimly lit executive floor. Sure enough, the only light came from under Killian’s office door.

I exhaled slowly, adjusting the gift bag in my hand.

But then, just as I stepped in the hallway, I heard a sound.

A muffled moan.

I froze.

For a moment, I thought I was imagining things. But then I heard it again, a soft gasp of pleasure and then the creak of furniture.

“Yes, baby," a feminine voice followed and I felt my heart skip.

No.

I took a slow step forward, my shaky fingers curling around the door handle. My pulse pounded so loudly I could hear it in my ears.

With all the willpower I had, I pushed the door open.

The world collapsed around me.

Right there was Killian. His broad, muscular frame was naked from the waist down and his hands were gripping her hips.

I couldn't blink, I couldn't move. But the second my eyes landed on the woman underneath him, my world crumbled.

I couldn't breathe.

The gift bag slipped from my fingers, tumbling to the floor with a soft thud.

It was Astrid. My best friend.
