đŸ«¶LEXIđŸ«¶

I waited until the compound fell into its deepest silence, the kind that only came after the night patrol had settled and the watch fires burned low. Pa’s warning echoed in my head, but the pull in my chest had grown too strong to ignore. It tugged like an invisible rope, insistent and warm, drawing me toward the Whispering Woods.

Slipping out through the old side gate felt both thrilling and terrifying. The heavy mist wrapped around me like a living thing as I crossed the boundary markers, the “No Entry” and “Beware” signs looming like sentinels in the dark. My pendant glowed faintly beneath my cloak, a soft silver light that seemed to guide my steps. I told myself the heightened senses - the sharp scent of pine and damp earth, the distant howls that sent shivers down my spine were just adrenaline. Nothing more.

My mind wouldn’t stop replaying everything. The dream. The way his mouth had felt on my skin. The broken amulet piece burning a hole in my pocket. Who was he? Why did being near him make the world feel both dangerous and right? Loyalty to the hunters, to Pa and Tomas, warred with this strange new hunger. I was being foolish. Reckless. But I couldn’t turn back.

Deeper I went, following fresh tracks... massive paw prints and the faint, wild scent that made my pulse race. I crossed the invisible line into what the hunters called forbidden territory.

That was when I found an abandoned cave, its mouth half-hidden by hanging vines and rock overhangs.

Before I could step inside, he appeared.

The stranger stepped out from the shadows, still in human form, looking exhausted and worse for wear. Fresh bruises darkened his jaw, and his shirt clung to him with sweat and old blood. His piercing hazel eyes widened slightly in confusion when they landed on me.

Even in the darkness, i could see the shock and confusion that flashed in his gaze.

My pendant's light making it possible.

“You,” he said, voice rough with disbelief. “What are you doing here?”

The pull hit me like a wave. His scent.. wild pine, leather, and something uniquely him wrapped around me, making my head spin and heat bloom low in my belly. Even tired and battered, he radiated raw power. Our eyes locked, and for a moment, the forest seemed to fade.

I pulled the amulet piece from my pocket, holding it up. “This. I found it where you disappeared earlier. The symbols match my pendant. What is it? What does it mean?”

He stared at the piece, then at my pendant. Mostly at my pendant. His expression tightening with visible conflict. A protective gaze flashed. He stepped closer, as if ready to snatch the piece away or shield me, but stopped himself. “You need to go back. Now. These woods are no place for you.”

“I’m not leaving until you give me answers,” I said stubbornly, lifting my chin. “These questions have been eating at me for a while. I deserve to know.”

He let out a low, frustrated sound. “You’re foolish, wandering into my territory alone. You should be scared of me.”

I met his gaze steadily. “If you wanted to harm me, you would have done it the first time we met. You even saved me from that other wolf earlier today.”

He scoffed, crossing his arms, but I caught the flicker of surprise.. and maybe reluctant respect.. in his eyes. “You trust easily, don’t you?”

“I believe whatever my heart says,” I replied softly.

He looked at me for a long moment, tension crackling between us. “Your heart is faulty.”

A sudden fierce crack of thunder split the sky. I flinched hard, the old fear of storms rushing back from childhood nightmares. Without thinking, I ran closer to him, shielding myself behind his broad frame, my hands lightly gripping the back of his shirt.

He stiffened at the contact, then scoffed. “You aren’t scared of the woods but you’re scared of thunder?”

Another boom rolled overhead, and rain began to fall, light at first, then heavy sheets that soaked us instantly. He shook his head and started walking back into the cave. I followed, still clutching the amulet piece, my heart pounding from both the storm and his nearness.

He stopped abruptly. “Leave.”

“I can’t right now,” I said, voice small as thunder crashed again. I covered my ears and crouched instinctively. The rain poured harder.

He muttered something under his breath, then sighed. “Fine. Stay until it passes.”

Inside the cave, the space was tighter than I expected, limited dry ground, one worn blanket someone had left behind long ago. We had no choice but to share the shelter. Tension skyrocketed the moment we sat down side by side, shoulders nearly brushing.

We argued in low voices, mostly about my recklessness and his refusal to explain anything. Physical exhaustion slipped through the frustration.

“Why do you keep showing up injured like this?” I asked after a stretch of silence.

He hesitated, staring into the rain. “I patrol the area. Protect what’s left of my....pack and keep watch on the hunters before they strike.”

I didn’t fully understand, but I nodded anyway, waving it off for now.

“What’s your name?” I asked suddenly, realizing it had slipped my mind every time he vanished. “It feels strange not knowing after
 everything.”

He glanced at me, the faintest hint of a smirk tugging at his lips. “Kaelen.”

“Kaelen,” I repeated softly. It suited him. I didn’t push for more... who he really was, why he was ‘rogue’ - or whatever Pa and the hunters called him. That could wait.

I shared fragments instead. “I keep having these strange dreams. Places I’ve never seen, voices calling a name that isn’t mine. And I
I don’t feel like I belong with the hunters. Not really. It’s like there’s something missing.”

Kaelen listened quietly, his expression guarded, but he didn’t pull away. The warmth of his body next to mine in the cold cave made sleep impossible. The unexplainable bond hummed between us. Accidental brushes of our arms sent sparks through me, echoing the intensity of that dream. His scent was everywhere. I was hyper-aware of every shift in his breathing, the way his muscles tensed when our knees touched.

Third Person P.O.V

Kaelen’s jaw clenched so tightly it ached. The girl sat far too close. Her scent...moonlight and wild roses mixed with the rain, was driving his wolf insane. The mate bond pulsed strongly between them, relentless and demanding. Every small movement, every soft exhale, tested his control to its limit. He knew she was his fated mate. That was enough to make staying away nearly impossible. Being this near her, sharing warmth under one thin blanket while the storm raged outside, was pure torture.

He wanted to pull her against him, to bury his face in her neck and finally give in to the bond. But claiming her now, as a banished rogue with enemies of his own, would only put her in greater danger. So he held back, muscles rigid, every instinct screaming at him even as he fought the pull.

The bond burned.

The storm finally passed as dawn light filtered through the trees. I woke slowly, realizing Kaelen had draped part of the blanket more securely over me. A small protective sign...a carved symbol in the dirt near the entrance caught my eye. He had watched over me.

As I gathered myself to leave, the pendant glowed again in my hand. A brief vision flashed..ancient symbols glowing on a larger crest, matching both pieces.

Another clue.

I hurried back toward the compound, heart racing, only to narrowly avoid a hunter patrol. Tomas’s voice carried on the wind...they were searching for me.

I'm definitely in trouble.

Slipping inside just in time, I overheard Gretonia’s men near the armory. “The rogue is priority one. Bigger hunt at dusk. We’ll flush him out and end the problem for good.”

My stomach dropped. I had to find Kaelen again soon. Warn him.

Distant howls rose as I clutched the pendant. A sharp, painful flash surged through me, I staggered, trying to balance myself - leaving me breathless against the wall.

Whatever was happening, it was building toward something I couldn’t outrun.

  • Moon Blood: Rise Of The Hidden Alpha   TWENTY ONE: The Blackwood Brothers

đŸș KAELEN đŸș The entire valley was awake. Rogues poured out of their cabins, weapons already in hand. Growls echoed through the settlement as warriors rushed toward the entrance. The valley had been surrounded. My first thought was simple. Varg. Or another feral raid. I shifted my grip on my sword as Ronan, Garrick and several Deltas fell into formation beside me. We crossed the clearing without a word. The moment we reached the border... I stopped. They weren't ferals. They were Dreadhowl warriors. At the front of them stood a familiar black wolf. It shifted and moments later, Vilkras Blackwood stood before us. Our eyes met and the air turned colder. Vilkras slowly looked around the valley, his lip curling with barely concealed disgust. "So..." "This is where the great Kaelen Blackwood has been hiding." I didn't rise to the bait. "State your business." I muttered. A smirk tugged at his lips. "Straight to the point." His gaze shifted past me and I followed it. A small

‱THIRD PERSON'S POV‱ The rogues continued with their murmurs. Lexi kept her head down, the little wolf pup still clinging to her hand. She could feel every stare burning into her skin. The hostility was thick and suffocating. She wouldn't blame them. She was among the people who saw to the end of their kind, even though she didn't fully participate in their hunt down. Kaelen’s jaw tightened. He stopped in the center of the clearing and turned to face the gathered rogues. His voice rang out, calm but commanding. “She is my mate.” The valley fell silent. Then the murmurs exploded. “A human mate?” “Impossible!” “She’s a hunter!” Kaelen’s golden eyes swept over them. “She is under my protection. Anyone who touches her answers to me.” The rogues fell quiet, but the resentment lingered in their eyes. Kaelen took Lexi’s hand and led her away from the crowd, toward his cabin. Ronan appeared, smiling as he took the little wolf pup’s hand. “I’ll take the kid to the oth

‱ THIRD PERSON'S P.O.V ‱ A deafening roar split the forest. The trees exploded apart as a massive black wolf burst into the clearing, landing between Lexi and the feral wolves with enough force to shake the ground. Leaves and dust billowed into the air. The little wolf pup gasped. Lexi froze. She had seen Kaelen before, but never like this. He towered over every wolf present, his jet-black fur shimmering beneath the early afternoon sun. His golden eyes burned with quiet fury as a deep growl rumbled from his chest. For the very first time...Lexi understood why everyone feared him. Even the feral wolves instinctively took several steps back. Only one remained where he stood. Varg. A slow laugh escaped him. "So..." "The Banished Prince finally arrived." The enormous black wolf ignored him completely. His gaze shifted from Varg...to Lexi. She stood trembling, one hand gripping her dagger while the other shielded the frightened wolf pup behind her. Inside Kaelen's mind, Kai'

‱Third Person POV‱ The entire hunters' compound was frozen. No one spoke. No one moved. Every eye was locked on Lexi. The little wolf pup hid trembling behind her legs. The agent with the wolfsbane dagger slowly lowered his weapon - not because he was afraid, but because Gretonia had silently signaled him to stop. Gretonia had already won. He didn’t need the child anymore. One hunter whispered, voice shaking, “She
has claws.” Another noticed her eyes — the brief flash of red that hadn’t quite faded. Someone else saw her fangs. Then fear spread like wildfire. Hunters began stepping backward. Others drew weapons. Someone shouted, “She’s one of them!” The atmosphere changed instantly. Tomas looked at Lexi. She was standing protectively in front of the child, even as the hunters turned on her. He looked at the hunters — already raising their weapons. He looked at Harlan. Then he stepped in front of Lexi. Everyone was shocked. A hunter asked, voice sharp, “What

  • Moon Blood: Rise Of The Hidden Alpha   SEVENTEEN: The Child and the Beast

‱Third Person POV‱ The approaching footsteps belonged to Tomas. He burst through the trees, eyes wild with panic. The sight that greeted him stopped him cold. Lexi...his sister.. was wrapped in a dark cloak, barely conscious, slumped against the rogue, Kaelen. Tomas’s reaction was explosive. “You!” he roared, lunging forward. “You’re the one who took her!” He grabbed Lexi’s arm and yanked her away from Kaelen, pulling her behind him. With his free hand, he drew his dagger, the blade coated in wolfsbane, and pointed it at the rogue. “Stay away from her, beast!” Lexi was barely conscious, still recovering from the heat. Her body trembled as she tried to speak. “Tomas
 wait
it’s not—” Her voice was too weak. The words barely left her lips. More footsteps approached.. the hunters drawn by the noise. Tomas was distracted for a split second. In that moment, Kaelen vanished into the woods like a shadow. Tomas spun around, but the rogue was already gone. He cursed u

  • Moon Blood: Rise Of The Hidden Alpha   SIXTEEN: First Heat

‱ THIRD PERSON'S P.O.V ‱ The silver she-wolf stood frozen beneath the moonlight, her chest rising and falling rapidly. She didn't understand what she had become. Every instinct screamed at her to run. A low growl rumbled deep in her throat as she fixed her eyes on the man standing several feet away. Gretonia remained perfectly calm. His cane rested lightly against the forest floor while several cloaked men stood hidden among the trees behind him. None of them moved. Neither did he. His sharp blue eyes studied the silver wolf with quiet fascination. A faint smile touched his lips. "You've finally awakened." The she-wolf bared her fangs. She took a cautious step backward. Gretonia noticed everything. The way her ears twitched at every sound. The uncertainty in her stance. The fear hidden beneath the aggression. This was her first shift. She was trying to survive. His smile deepened. "The Moon Princess..." He spoke so softly it almost sounded like he was talking to himsel
