Chapter 3

Penulis: Sugar
I had planned to head straight for a hotel, but when I swiped my card, I discovered every one of my accounts had already been frozen.

So that was it.

The Everhart family had quietly stripped me of all financial control over the past year.

In the werewolf registry system on the U.S. East Coast, every asset under my name had been transferred to Julian Everhart.

Only an Alpha had the authority to overwrite a mate’s property ownership.

To the outside world, I was Luna—Alpha’s partner, the symbol of the Pack.

But within the Pack itself, I was nothing more than an outsider—someone without noble blood, merely tolerated in the wolves’ inner circle.

Since leaving Everhart territory, I had been staying at Victor’s apartment.

The next day, I returned to Everhart Pack to collect my personal belongings.

The moment I stepped into the lobby, a cluster of wolves’ idle chatter cut across the air like blades.

“An Omega who only became Luna by clinging to the Alpha actually dares to ask for a divorce?”

“So what if the Alpha likes sleeping with a Plush Wolf Doll? That’s enough reason for divorce? What a joke!”

“I bet she’s already hooked up with the Alpha of the Ironfang Pack. After all, that face of hers is famous across the Northern territories.”

I stood there, feeling their eyes on me—thick with contempt and ridicule.

The way they looked at me was the same way one would look at a bitch. Who not only didn’t know her place, but had the audacity to cheat on her Alpha while still married.

Then, a deep voice broke through the murmurs from behind, carrying the force of Alpha command.

“Quiet.”

It was Julian—his presence locking the air into stillness.

He walked toward me, holding a limited-edition wristwatch—its face engraved with the silver moon crest, a symbol of the Alpha’s vow to his Luna.

I didn’t take it.

“I’m here for my talisman. Keep the watch for your plush toy.”

The smile on his face froze.

The other wolves in the conference room exploded almost instantly, fury erupting like a storm.

Their accusations of ingratitude crashed over me from every direction.

I didn’t respond.

I simply brushed past Julian and walked toward the elevator that led to the top-floor office.

Hanging on the wall there was a silver pendant etched with ancient wolf runes—the only keepsake my parents had left me.

Three years ago, Julian had claimed strange things were happening in this office.

Whispers in the middle of the night.

He said the place felt haunted.

So I had left my talisman there.

The moment the pendant was hung on the wall, every strange occurrence vanished.

Back then, he had thanked me with that rare, gentle smile of his.

But now—He didn’t deserve to keep it anymore.

When I pushed open the door, Harper was holding my child.

Strange. My son was never brought to the Alpha office—unless someone wanted an audience.

“Chloe, you’re back.” She smiled in a show of warmth. “Come look—I think the little wolf pup is looking more and more like you.”

“Move,” I said, frowning.

Her smile faltered slightly.

“He’s barely one year old.Are you really going to abandon your own son just to chase another man?”

“I said, move.”

She didn’t budge. Instead, her eyes sharpened as she looked at me.

“Chloe, have you really taken up with another man?” she demanded. “Is that why you’re abandoning your own son?”

Ignoring her, I stepped around her and reached for the pendant.

Harper suddenly let out a startled cry. She staggered backward as if shoved, then deliberately collapsed to the floor with the pup in her arms.

The child burst into loud tears.

At that exact moment, Julian entered with several Pack elders.

“What happened?” He bent to pick up the pup.

“I just wanted her to hold him,” Harper said, voice trembling, “but she shoved me. The pup almost hit the floor.”

Before she could finish, Julian’s palm struck my cheek, sharp and hard.

“How can you be so cruel!” he snapped.

“Don’t you care that you could have hurt him?”

My expression remained cold and unmoved.

“Hurt him?” I said flatly.“Stop using my son to chain me here.”

“You don’t get to wave him in front of me just to keep me from leaving.”

The words chilled the room.

Good. Let them hear it.

The crueler I sounded, the faster this marriage would die.

“From this day forward, all my lands, my treasury, and my bloodline inheritance rights will belong to Chloe.”Percy’s voice rang through the great hall, firm and unwavering.“This is compensation—and the debt our family owes her.”Opal stood at his side, her expression solemn, her tone resolute. “I agree.”They were just about to kneel and perform the pack’s most formal act of contrition when I stepped forward to stop them.“Please—don’t. You’ve always treated me as your own daughter. This was never your fault.”The hall grew quiet. The name of the true culprit had already spread through the entire territory. They were victims of deception, not accomplices.Percy and Opal’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears. It was the kind of look that spoke of understanding, of acceptance—and of the peace that comes with laying down a heavy burden.Applause echoed in the Elders’ Hall. Messengers from every pack carried the trial records to all corners of the realm. Within half a day, wolves across the

The pack guards surged forward, wrenching the two apart. They clamped silver chains on Harper and dragged her toward the underground silver cells.Julian was shoved to the ground, his knees slamming into the moonstone floor. His body trembled, and he let out broken, choking sobs. Not a single wolf spoke up for him.I rose to my feet, my voice cold and firm. “Judge, please proceed with the sentence.”“No—please, don’t sentence me.” Julian crawled to me, clutching at the hem of my gown, his voice shaking. “Chloe, I’m sorry. I was wrong. I swear I’ll never betray you again. I’ll be a good mate. We still have our pup—she’s only a year old—she can’t grow up without her mother. Even if I’m beyond forgiveness, the child is innocent.”At the mention of “our pup,” some in the gallery urged me to fight for custody. There were tears in my eyes, but my tone was steady. “Julian, how much longer are you going to keep up the act? The child is innocent—but she is not of my blood.”The hall erupted in

The judge straightened slowly, his voice cutting through the air like a blade.“The Elder Council is about to present the key evidence in this case. All pack members, turn your eyes to the crystal screen.”An ancient moonstone panel framed in gold lit up. The image showed the pack guard interrogating a she-wolf, her wrists shackled with silver chains.“Name.”“Abe Perry.”“Who are your direct blood relatives?”“Only one sister—Harper Perry. She’s currently the personal assistant to Alpha Julian Everhart, heir of the Everhart Clan.”Even now, Harper tried to argue her way out—until the great doors swung open.“…Harper, I’m sorry.” Her voice was hoarse, low.It was Abe Perry herself. The hall exploded in uproar.“God… they’re identical!”“If they swapped places, who could tell the difference?”Harper’s pupils contracted sharply. Her strength seemed to drain away as she staggered back a few steps, muttering under her breath, “Impossible… her scent was flawless… how could she be caught?”J

I knew exactly what they were doing—using silence and pressure to force me to bow my head before the verdict was even spoken. But under the eyes of the entire pack and the Moon Goddess herself, I only grew calmer.“No.”My voice cut through the stillness of the council hall like a blade.Julian’s mouth curled in a mocking smile. “This is your last chance to walk away with dignity, Chloe.”Opal’s voice snapped like a whip through the air. “Once the trial ends, you won’t even have the right to speak!”But Percy rumbled, “If we’re truly innocent, what is there to fear from the truth?”Julian’s head jerked toward Harper, as if seeking reassurance. Harper only gave the faintest shake of her head, her expression steady—as if to say, Don’t worry. Everything’s under control. The air turned to ice. All eyes fixed on the final verification report.Ten minutes later, the clerk’s voice rang out: “The submitted videos are all authentic.”The hall erupted.“Wait—if both pieces of evidence are real,

“I didn’t frame her! I didn’t! Maybe my legs just gave out and I fell.”Harper tried to defend herself, but her voice carried no weight.Around us, the pack members exchanged gJulians, their wolf eyes glinting under the torchlight—clearly, no one was convinced.Julian stepped forward at once, shielding her with his body, his voice low. “Her hind tendon was injured during a hunt. It’s normal for her to be unsteady.”That explanation barely tamped down the murmured doubts, but the air was still thick with the stench of mistrust, lingering like the tang of blood.Whispers rippled through the crowd.“If it was just weak legs, why blame the Luna in the first place?”“Could Alpha Julian and Harper be hiding something?”“Is it possible… Harper was the Plush Wolf Doll herself?!”“No way. You’re really going there? That’s ridiculous.”The judge cut in. “Enough! Stop your chatter. The truth lies in the third folder.”He could tell at a gJulian that I had been prepared for this moment. At his sig

The hall went utterly silent, broken only by sharp intakes of breath.“God… is he cheating on the Luna with a toy—?”“What kind of kink is this?”“This is worse than betrayal—it’s humiliating.”“Why can it… moan like that?”Julian’s face flushed crimson. He had believed the home security cameras were long broken.Harper leapt in to defend him. “That was when Chloe was giving birth. Julian drove through a snowstorm to reach her, but there was an accident! Since then, he’s suffered from post-traumatic depression and dissociative soul disorder… This was only a way to cope.”The crowd began to shift toward sympathy.“If it’s mental illness plus depression… that explains a lot.”“I’ve seen depressed wolves do strange things—one howled at the moon until dawn every night.”“But for the Luna to bring this into court… she’s trying to ruin him.”Sensing the turn, Harper struck again. “Chloe, is this about fighting for the Pack’s wealth?”They were trying to bury me under the weight of Pack honor
