"The luna wants to see you."
I glance up and see Katherine staring at me with a frown. She passes along the message without saying a word and walks away. I finish my meal and make my way to the luna's office, wondering what this meeting is about.I softly knock on the door. "Come in," Luna commands. "Good morning, Luna," I bow. "You wanted to see me." "Kneel," she says firmly, but I'm not sure if I heard correctly. "Excuse me?""I said kneel," her eyes are unwavering.Without needing to be told again, I fall to the floor. "What have I done this time?" Or what have they accused me of this time? Luna looks at me as if I'm a piece of meat. "Your mere existence alone is a sin. Do I need a reason to punish you?"Even my mother's death was not enough to satisfy her thirst. She must want me dead too. She stands up from her table and walks towards me, grabbing my collar and forcing me to meet her gaze. "The sight of you alone disgusts me. Do me a favor and disappear from my sight forever." I know what she expects of me, but I will not comply."This is my father's pack. Where do you expect me to go?" I challenge. My mother was once the luna, but her reign was short-lived. She suddenly fell ill and passed away. My father then remarried her best friend, Aida, who seduced him under the pretense of taking care of me. Once my father fell for her tricks, I was discarded like a worn-out doll. Father doesn't like looking at me; he says I remind him too much of my mother. We have a strong resemblance, so instead of staying in his quarters, he had me stay in the luna's quarters, and now I am reduced to being a maid."Do not force me to take matters into my own hands. I have been lenient with you out of respect for your late mother, but if you continue to ignore my warnings, do not be surprised by the consequences." She threatened, her eyes conveying the seriousness of her words and the imminent danger. However, telling me to leave the pack is equivalent to sending me to my death. I am uncertain if I will survive beyond the forest. With no other choice, I suppress my pride. "I obey your every command without question. I have never challenged you. Leaving the pack would be like a death sentence for me. If you want, I will live quietly like a mouse within the pack, never showing my face to you or the alpha. As time passes, you will forget about my existence, as I will never make myself seen again. So please, luna, do not cast me out." I plead tearfully, but her expression remains unchanged."And how can I trust that you are telling the truth? Your mother was quite the liar in the past. Since you resemble her so much, you must have inherited that trait from her."My mother was anything but a liar. When it came to deception, Aida was a master.I witnessed her deceiving my mother on her deathbed, promising to take care of me. When she married my father, I was upset, but she assured me it was for my benefit, to be closer to me. However, as soon as I fell out of favor with my father, she quickly switched sides. I didn't bother defending my mother's reputation, simply saying, "Just trust me this once."Aida seemed to think about it for a moment before asking, "What if you suddenly appear one day? How do you suggest I punish you?""However you wish, Luna."A mischievous glint appeared in her eyes as she suggested, "I propose death by poison. What do you say?" Nervously, I swallowed, realizing she was serious. Unless I agreed to her terms, she would never leave me alone."I promise, if I ever appear in front of you and the alpha, I will die by ingesting poison." She seemed satisfied with this and stood up, returning to the high table."You are dismissed now. I hope, for your own sake, that you keep your word.""Rest assured, Luna. Today is the last time you will see my face," I declared, determined to honor my promise. This woman had ruined my life, but I didn't seek revenge. I held no grudge against her or my father, who hadn't acknowledged me for eight years. All I wanted was to live a peaceful life, free from worries.Turning on my heel, I left her office and headed to my room to pack my belongings."Stop right there!" a voice ordered. I turned around and saw Zya, Luna's daughter, approaching me with anger in her eyes. I prepared myself, knowing that she always caused trouble."Good afternoon, ma'am," I greeted, bowing my head, even though I was a year older than her and we used to be best friends. She stopped a few steps away and questioned, "What were you just discussing with my mother?""I'm sorry, but it's not my place to tell you. Why don't you go and ask Luna instead?" Zya was known for spreading gossip, even making Luna afraid to speak when she was around. Her palms collided with my face, causing me to step back. "Speak up now!" she commanded, but I remained silent. Zya slapped me again, using her wolf strength, and I tasted blood on my tongue. My cheek burned, tears threatening to spill."Will you still stay quiet?"Despite everything, I kept my silence. She raised her hand to hit me once more, but the Alpha's commanding tone caused her and everyone around to freeze."What do you think you're doing?"What do you think you're doing?" Alpha asks angrily. It's been years since I last saw my father like this.Zya starts trembling, "I only wanted to teach her a lesson, I didn't mean to hurt her.""Isn't she older than you? Who should be teaching whom a lesson?" He questions, and Zya remains silent. I can't believe my father is publicly defending me like this. I thought he had forgotten about me long ago. His eyes briefly meet mine, and he seems stunned before quickly looking away. Nothing has changed; he still can't bear to look at my face."Are you alright, child?" He asks softly, avoiding eye contact."I'm fine, Alpha. Thank you for your concern," I reply, bowing my head respectfully.I miss the time when he was still a father to me. We used to be inseparable, and I would cry whenever he wasn't around. Even my mother was envious of our bond. But now, look at us. It's nobody's fault but his.He reaches out for my arm, but I instinctively step back, feeling uncomfortable with his touch
I felt like an item up for auction, waiting to be sold to the highest bidder. The room fell silent when Marc made his declaration, and no one dared to make another offer. "Then Marc shall have her," Alpha broke the sudden silence. This news brought a smile to Marc's face, but I was too horrified to speak. How could my own father do this to me? It was one thing that he neglected me for half of my life, but now he was selling me off to a stranger in exchange for livestock and land. I should have realized something was amiss when he introduced me to everyone as his daughter."What are you waiting for?" Alpha's voice snapped me back to reality. "Won't you go and greet your husband?""We never discussed this, Alpha," I mustered up sudden courage.Alpha was shocked by my sudden challenge, but anger quickly replaced his expression. "Since when do I need your permission to make a decision?"But I was the one getting married. If anything, he should have informed me beforehand. I could only bri
As nightfall approached, I anxiously fiddled with my dress, waiting for Marc to enter the room as he had promised. Earlier, there had been a heated argument among his wives, with Jade, the third wife, who claimed that she was told she would be the last. Blair, on the other hand, couldn't bear the thought of sharing her husband with another woman more beautiful than her and demanded that I be kicked out. Rona simply insisted that Marc sends me packing without offering a reason. As a maid led me to the bedroom, I already knew that my time here would not be easy. Never in my twenty years of existence did I imagine that I would end up marrying a man with three wives and becoming the fourth.Alpha must have known about this situation beforehand, yet he still allowed me to be given to Marc. My hatred for my father grew stronger with each passing second. Suddenly, the door swung open, interrupting my thoughts. Marc entered the room with an air of majesty, and I sat up, unsure of what would h
My cheeks were still sore from the slap I received earlier in the day. It took all the maids in the mansion to separate us from each other. Ever since then, I made sure to keep my distance from all three of them. I sought solace in the garden, admiring the beautiful flowers, when someone sneaked up from behind and pushed me into the pond.I struggled to breathe, desperately gasping for air in the water. Rona, however, just stood there, watching me with pity. "Please," I begged as the water filled my lungs. I didn't know how to swim."If I help you, will you promise to run away and leave my husband for good?" she asked mischievously.I wanted to tell her that it wasn't my decision to make, but I was starting to lose consciousness. "Have you lost your mind?" Marc's angry voice boomed. Without waiting for her response, he dived into the water and rescued me.Rona showed no remorse, her posture unwavering as she stood confidently. He guided me out of the water, my breath heavy and labored
Rona stared at me patiently like she was waiting for me to say something that wasn’t right and honestly I had no opinion on that.“We can’t be too sure, he might still get an heir.” I muttered innocently and that made Rona chuckle loudly.“And who would be giving him the heir?” Rona questioned staring at me like she was waiting for me to say something but I could see through her facade, all she wanted was for me to slip and say something to get me in more trouble or cause a fight.“I don’t know? Anyone of you three or perhaps even me.” I stuttered avoiding her gaze think she was about to do something bad to me but she started laughing out of blue making me think she must really love laughing.“You think you might get the possibility or chance of being a mother or the mother of the heir to the throne?” Rona said as she paced up to me.“You are just imagining stuff and that’s why exactly I told you in advance.” Rona muttered to me but I wasn’t brave enough to look away or talk back.“Yo
“But that’s different here, you are the newest and let’s hope you are the last…I can assure you that our boss would treat you well.” Mirabel said and that last phrase made me laugh because it sounded so funny.“Why do you call him your boss?” I asked her and surprisingly she joined me in laughter.“I am one of the new maids so I haven't really stood face to face with him let alone talked to him and everyone calls him sir marc, I didn’t want to make awkward between us so I called him boss.” Mirabel said.“That explains the weird name but Mirabel, don't you think something about this palace is weird?” I said to Mirabel who nodded almost immediately.“Blair is the weirdest thing to ever happen to this palace, she just commands everyone like she owns this place and she seems to always have her way with the boss, like he is also under her control.” Mirabel said which Amma do everything even more interesting as I took a seat closer to her.“That’s can’t be, marc looks like a really fierce p
My gaze went to Blair who was very angry as she stared at me. Marc tightened the hug as I smiled at Blair and jade. After a few seconds of hugging me he let go of me and smiled as he stared into my eyes.“I never expected you to accept me this way but I am more than happy you decide to stay.” Marc said to me but I didn’t know what to say but just keep quiet.“I didn’t even last a week after I found out that I won’t have a child but I didn’t even talk to Marc or greet him for weeks and past a month sef.” Jade said like she was so nice to me after all the stupid threat.“Ohh.” I stuttered with a fake smile, Marc escorted me to his bed and pushed Blair away from his side making her scoff as she stared at me angrily.“You should also take your seat beside me, do you know I can foresee that you would end up being my favorite bride.” Marc said and I swear that Blair was on the verge of stabbing me.“I would really love to be your favorite bride but how would that be possible if I can’t even
“You think you're so special, don't you? Well, let me make one thing clear, Harlow. I will not let you overshadow me. If you try to get pregnant, I will do everything in my power to make sure it fails."I couldn’t believe Blair could say something like that to me,she was really bent on making my life a living hell.“I know you think that your threat might make me panic a bit and not enable me to do what I set my mind to do…” I said before pausing intentionally as I paced close to her and smiled.“You just make me think there is more to this Marc infertility than you guys let out and the funny part is you are also keeping Marc in the dark and that’s isn’t right.” I said and paused yet again, she wasn’t a bit shaken but I could feel her flicker. That means my words were getting to her and that alone is enough for me.“I would try to prove all of you wrong because you know what I think, I think you all are ganging up intentionally to stop Marc from getting an heir and I really want to se
