Night falls like a heavy cloak over us. The air grows colder, and with it, the sense of danger around us sharpens. It's as if the shadows, once harmless, have thickened—turned more ominous. The pull between Shadow and me is so tangible, I can almost touch it. Every time we draw near, the world seems to shrink, as if nothing else matters, as if only we exist—trapped in a dangerous game we never chose but can no longer walk away from.

Desire remains our engine, and with every kiss, every touch, it devours a little more of me. Yet there’s something in his eyes that makes me hesitate—something I can’t fully name. For a fleeting second, he doesn’t look at me as the woman beside him, but as a piece in a larger game—a pawn in a match far beyond our control.

“I don’t know if this is what I want,” Shadow says, his voice low and grave, as if each word is a burden too heavy to bear.

I look at him, my heart racing wildly, a storm of emotions churning inside me. The pull I feel, the need to be near him, to give myself to him without hesitation, is so overwhelming it blinds me. And yet, something whispers that more is at stake—something I can’t quite see, but feel in every nerve, every heartbeat.

“Then what is it you want?” I ask, my voice trembling, though I try to hold it steady. “Because I… I only know what I want now. And that’s you, Shadow. Even if it destroys us.”

He takes a step back, and though it’s only a sliver of space, the distance feels insurmountable. His gaze is intense, but it’s fighting something deeper than desire.

“What I want has nothing to do with what we need,” he replies, his tone heavy with pain and a resignation I hadn’t heard from him before. “What I want is for you to be safe, Eve. But that’s impossible. If we continue down this path, if you truly surrender to this… there are things you won’t come back from.”

My fingers tremble as they brush his skin, as if even touching him might burn me. But I can’t pull away. Something within me urges me onward—into the darkness we share. Even if he’s trying to protect me, I can’t silence the pull, or the need that grips me so fiercely.

“Safe?” I repeat, the word echoing in my ears like a reflection of his fear—of what we already know. “Safe from what, Shadow?”

He closes his eyes for a moment, as if running from the answer, as if he can’t bear to tell me the full truth. And his face darkens with every second that passes.

“Safe from yourself,” he whispers, and it strikes me like a dagger to the chest. “Safe from what we’re becoming.”

My hands are shaking now. The pain in his voice is real, tangible. I don’t fully understand what he’s trying to tell me, but something about his tone tells me we’ve already crossed a threshold we can’t return from. Maybe this isn’t just forbidden love. Maybe we’re toying with forces we don’t understand—can’t control.

“Safe from what?” I ask again, this time more firmly. I won’t let him leave me in the dark. There’s something more here—something we have to face if we’re going to walk this path.

Shadow hesitates, caught in the grip of his own thoughts. And then, after a long silence, he exhales and looks at me. In his eyes, I see something I’ve never seen before: a desperation so deep it threatens to swallow me whole.

“We’re approaching something far greater than either of us, Eve,” he says at last, his voice barely audible. “A power neither of us can control. And even though what I feel for you… even though this is real… what we’re stirring up is a war. A war that could destroy us both.”

The word war crashes over me like a wave, and everything inside me halts for a second. My thoughts race, tangled and frantic. I don’t know how to react. The idea of losing him—of losing what we have—terrifies me in ways I can’t explain.

And yet…

Some part of me feels more alive than ever.

Stronger. Fiercer. Unbreakable.

If this is what’s coming, then we’ll face it together.

“I don’t care,” I say—and my voice sounds steadier than I feel. “Whatever’s waiting for us, we’ll face it. If it’s our war, we’ll fight it. And we won’t give up.”

A shadow flickers across his face—surprise, maybe, or something deeper. As if he expected me to hesitate.

But I see something else in his eyes too: a flicker of silent acceptance.

Maybe he knows it too.

Maybe he’s just as trapped as I am.

He steps toward me, and this time, there’s no doubt in his eyes. It’s as though he’s finally accepted what we are, what we’re meant to be. The space between us disappears, and in its place is only the need to be close—urgent, undeniable.

“Then we fight,” he says, voice soft but resolute. “But what’s coming won’t be easy, Eve. And the worst part is—we still don’t know who we’re fighting.”

A chill runs down my spine. I know this won’t be simple. The darkness closing in around us can’t be ignored.

But what I feel for Shadow—this fierce, dangerous bond—propels me forward, into the unknown.

And though fear still lingers in the shadows, I know there’s something else:

A force.

A power neither of us fully understands.

But maybe—just maybe—together, we’ll stand a chance.

Because in the end, the only thing I know for certain… is that I can’t let him go.

Maxwell’s presence fills the cabin with a tense, electric energy. It's as if he brings with him the promise of more chaos—but also, strangely, a sense of relief. Shadow trusts him, that much is clear, though not completely.“Is there a safe way out of here?” Shadow asks, his voice carrying that commanding tone he uses when he’s in control.Maxwell shakes his head, jaw clenched.“Not with the speed they’re moving. Klaus has trackers in every direction. If we leave now, we’ll be surrounded before dawn.”“Then we fight here,” Shadow replies, calm but resolute. My stomach twists. We fight?” I repeat, my throat suddenly dry. Both men turn to me. Maxwell looks at me like I’m a lost girl in a dark forest, but Shadow steps closer, placing a steady hand on my shoulder.“Lyra, this cabin isn’t ideal, but we can use it to our advantage. It’s familiar ground, and we have a little time to set traps.”“Traps?” My voice rises a little higher than I’d like, but I can’t help it.Maxwell lets out a sho

Shadow holds me in his arms as I try to steady my breathing. His warmth—so comforting, so familiar—is the only anchor I have in the midst of the chaos. The cabin is a wreck: shattered furniture, claw marks on the walls, and the metallic stench of blood thick in the air. But right now, the only thing that matters is that we're still alive.“You shouldn't have done that, Lyra,” he says, his tone stern, though his hands on my back are unbearably gentle.I pull back just enough to look into his eyes, my fingers still clutching the front of his blood-stained shirt.“What was I supposed to do? Just stand there and watch them kill you?”He exhales slowly, eyes closing like he's caught between yelling at me or kissing me.“I can't lose you, Lyra,” he finally confesses, his voice no more than a whisper.“Then don't ever ask me to walk away again,” I reply firmly—and this time, it's me who closes the distance between us.Our lips meet, and the world stops spinning. It’s a desperate kiss, charge

The air inside the cabin feels heavy, thick with tension and emotions that refuse to settle. Shadow moves like a caged wolf, pacing the small space back and forth, checking the windows, making sure everything is locked and secure. I remain seated on the couch, my hands still trembling slightly after his kiss. It’s as if that moment ignited something in both of us—something we can’t ignore, yet are terrified to name.“How dangerous is Klaus, really?” I ask, breaking the silence.Shadow stops, leaning against the wall beside the window. His face is grim, and the moonlight spilling through the glass sharpens the angles of his features.“He’s dangerous like few others,” he replies, not looking directly at me. “He’s calculating. Patient. He won’t stop until he gets what he wants.”“And what is it he wants?” I press, though part of me already knows the answer. At last, his eyes meet mine, and the weight of his gaze steals the air from my lungs.“Me… dead. And you, Lyra, as his weapon.”His

We don’t go straight back to the cabin. Shadow insists on taking a long, winding path through the forest, making sure Klaus isn’t following us—though I’m pretty sure that if that man wanted to find us, he already would’ve. The tension between us is thick enough to choke on. He walks ahead of me, broad back and stiff shoulders, like he’s carrying the weight of the world.I, on the other hand, am battling the thousand questions spinning in my head. Who is Klaus, really? What kind of “mistake from the past” could stir up that level of hatred? And more importantly: what role do I play in all of this? The silence stretches until I can’t take it anymore.“You can’t keep leaving everything up in the air, Shadow.”My voice comes out sharper than I intended, almost like a challenge. He stops so abruptly I nearly crash into his back. He turns to me, his dark eyes gleaming with a mixture of frustration—and something else I can’t quite name.“What do you want me to say, Lyra?” he asks, his voice

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   73. On the Edge of Chaos

The name Klaus is a poison that seeps into the air between us. Shadow stands rigid in front of me, like a wall of iron, and I can feel the intensity of his inner struggle. His protective instinct clashes with the fury crackling in the air, like a storm waiting to be unleashed."Who the hell is Klaus?" I whisper, trying to keep my voice steady as I take a step back, aware that my presence might be more of a burden than a help.Klaus lets out a laugh that echoes through the trees. It's a hollow sound, laced with malice, and it sends a shiver racing down my spine. He takes another step toward us, his figure now bathed in the pale glow of the moon. His eyes shine with something wild, and the smile on his face feels more like a challenge than any sign of joy."Hasn't he told you, darling?" Klaus asks, his tone mocking as he looks at me with bold amusement. "I’m... an old thorn in your precious lycan’s side. Though, personally, I prefer to think of myself as a reminder of everything he trie

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   72. A Perfect Disaster

The wind blowing through the open windows carries a cool breeze that brushes against my skin.Shadow is leaning against the window frame, staring out at the forest surrounding us, as if searching for something in the distance.Though the stillness of the moment should soothe me, I know there's a storm behind his eyes he's trying hard to hide.“You know,” I say, breaking the silence that has settled between us, “I always thought that if I ever ended up trapped in a situation as ridiculous as this, it would be with someone a bit more… normal.”He turns to me, one brow arched, that crooked smile of his already forming—clear warning that something sarcastic is about to leave his mouth.“Normal?” he repeats, dragging the word out like it’s an insult. “And where’s the fun in that?”I can’t help but laugh. The way he always twists my words back at me makes me want to punch him… or kiss him. It’s a constant inner war, one I honestly enjoy far more than I should.“I don’t know. Maybe it’d be l
