30Violet had entered the realm of peaceful sleep by the time Auriele returned to her attic bedroom. A small smile touched her lips when she saw Violet sleeping on her left side, with both her hands under her cheek and her lips parted slightly.Auriele caressed her hair and then pushed the blanket away from her body given it was scorching hot. She gazed around, feeling as if the room was boiling. It had grown somewhat hotter after it rained in the afternoon.Rains during the sultry summer season wasn't a phenomenon in the Iron Moon Pack. This constantly occurred in their pack. Rain never helped on hot days. It just made the air heavier and more humid. The ground would also give off heat, making everything feel even hotter. There was a fan hanging from the ceiling and it wasn't working that efficiently.Auriele sighed pitifully at her daughter. She was made to believe she was a traitor after Ben's incident, which eventually led her to believe that she didn't deserve the basic necessiti
29Evening, Violet had gained some composure although it took different tricks from Auriele to get her to talk and react again. They were sitting on the floor on the thin mattress. The rainy sky outside the window looked amazing. For the first time, the loud thundering didn't scare Violet. She was actually smiling... Because her mother was with her. Auriele was buttering warm and toasted bread. They were having their evening tea with some snacks. "I'm going to ask Alpha Arnold to give you your old room back. This place is very compact and unfit for living!" Auriele said while looking around with a scrunched nose. "I'm comfortable here. In fact, I'm glad that I stay here on the third floor away from everyone. My old room..." Violet heaved. "It's near Kiara's. I don't want to be anywhere near her now." She said that out of fear of Ben, and Auriele interpreted that. She smiled and forwarded the bread nicely buttered and coated thickly with Violet's favorite, plum jam, "I like this
28"I'm here in Darci's room. Well, I don't know what I'm doing here and why I'm doing what I'm doing because this doesn't come under my work. But last night Darci came to me and requested me to bring some of her clothes that were sent for washing to her room. Please, take note— She. Specifically. Requested. Me. To. Bring. Her. Clothes. To. Her. Room. When it's not part of my job.""I couldn't refuse her because she pleaded with me." Pause. "But... I don't know. I just found it so phishy. That being said, I'm recording this video. The stack of clothes you see here— This yellow t-shirt, this white trousers, these two summer dresses, and a few other clothes are all that were there. I'm showing these here so tomorrow if something happens... which I have a feeling it will... Then I can defend myself."Just as the video ended, Auriele announced, "The reason it took me a while in Darci's room was because I was making this video, Kiara."Then she turned to look at Alpha Arnold, "You saw the
27"Everything okay, Alpha?" Auriele came out of the car first and walked towards the row of people who seemed infuriated."Yes, and I must say I'm disappointed in you." Alpha Arnold said in a low but foreboding tone. You could tell from the way he moved that he was itching to take a life to let out all his pent-up anger. However, it wasn't going to be Auriele's.She forced a small smile and asked what happened. Alpha Arnold pointed beside his daughter, at Darci, who was dazedly gazing through the windshield at Violet that was still cowering in her seat inside the car."What about her? She looks absolutely fine to me." Auriele studied Darci's face for details. She watched the shift in her expression. While earlier Darci was shockingly gazing through the windshield at Violet, now she was wailing on top of her voice. It was as if someone flicked a button on her back, causing her to start crying. But one can easily point out that it was fake. She was trying harder to come off as natural,
26"I can do this!" Violet encouraged herself. With slow hand movements, she freed her hair from the branch. She smiled victoriously when her hair fell on her shoulder in a heap. "That was easy." She purred as she tried not to panic when she took a gander around. Sure, it was frighteningly dark and every tree trunk had seemed to develop two, big and dark red eyeballs of their own, that were staring at her. But after she calmed down and told herself that it was nothing, everything began to seem ordinary again. The trees didn't scare her. The trunks didn't have those dark and foreboding eyeballs. There were no monsters moving around. There were no rogues leering at her helplessness. It was just her in the silent embrace of harmless nature, among little creatures who were just chilling around in the lawns of their houses on a tree or under a rock. Once she had succeeded in controlling her imaginations, it was easier to find her way back to the picnic mat under the tree where she wok
25When Violet came around, she found herself surrounded by thick trees and the chirping of various birds ringing in the air. The top of the trees were crammed together, creating a shed overhead. Sunlight couldn't reach the ground but it was bright enough, and everything had a golden-yellow glow. The soil under her was damp but it didn't dirty Violet's clothes because she was laying on a yellow picnic mat."Where am I?" She blinked her eyes and sat up straight. As she cast her eyes around, a soothing sensation passed through her body. She smiled and watched little squirrels playing around. Some of the curious ones came closer towards Violet as if she was a new creature, and they couldn't help but come closer to study her."Hi, little friend!" Violet squealed while extending her hand to a squirrel that had come near enough."Hey!" She giggled as the cute little animal took off, climbing up a branch, and peeked down at her.Violet got up and looked for her shoes. They were nowhere. She
