Chapter 4

作者: 62386
Andrea hid the panic in her eyes as she walked over to me. She asked, "What are you doing here?"

I slowly made my way toward her, but before I could reach her, Spencer came through the hotel entrance.

He walked straight to Andrea's side, and they stood together, looking at me.

I stopped in my tracks. It felt like a clear line had been drawn between them and me. But the fact remained that Andrea was my girlfriend. We'd never even agreed to end our relationship.

In an instant, the thought of telling Andrea about my illness vanished from my mind. I slowly walked toward them.

Standing right in front of Andrea, I demanded, "Why did you take my bank card?"

Andrea acted as if she had done nothing wrong. "I have other expenses to deal with while I'm working, Vincent. Can you stop being so petty? You seriously came all the way here over this little bit of money? I bought you most of the clothes you used to wear, didn't I?"

I stared at Andrea coldly. All the clothes she'd ever bought me had been on sale, and they were always the cheapest ones.

I'd been careful with every penny I spent, all so she could have a little more breathing room financially.

But this time, she'd really gone too far. She'd used my money to come to Ivalor with Spencer.

The thought suddenly made me let out a bitter laugh. "So, you used my money to go on a vacation with Spencer?"

Andrea's eyes went wide. She clearly hadn't expected me to find out.

Still, she wouldn't admit it. "Vincent, what makes you say that? I've already told you it's for work. Do you really not trust me at all?"

Watching Andrea lie through her teeth and show me such an ugly side of herself, I suddenly felt disgusted with her.

She was no longer the cheerful, outgoing Andrea I'd once known. And whatever feelings I had left for her went cold.

Fixing Andrea with a sharp look, I said coldly, "Andrea, pay back every last cent, and I might think twice about pressing charges."

Andrea's eyes began to well up with tears. She met my eyes, exclaiming, "It's not like I wasn't going to pay you back, Vincent. Do you really have to be this heartless?"

I exploded, yelling, "I want my money back now!"

I looked at her with bloodshot eyes, feeling like my heart was being torn apart. If I lost that money and ended up with dementia, who would take care of my grandma?

My outburst seemed to frighten Andrea. She suddenly turned to look at Spencer beside her before stammering, "It's gone. I've used all of it to buy photography equipment for Spencer."

My gaze snapped to Spencer. He gave me a cold, malicious look. "Vincent, I never touched your money. Every cent was a gift from Andie. And even if I had spent your money, what proof do you have? Besides, Andie's with me now."

I was stunned for a moment, then it all made sense. Even if I sued, what would it get me?

I suddenly felt myself swaying, my vision starting to blur. A wave of dizziness hit me out of nowhere, and before I knew it, I collapsed to the floor.

When I came to, I was lying in a hospital bed, with Andrea standing over me. My very first thought after waking up was that, at least, Andrea hadn't left me to die.

I turned my head to her, saying, "Thank you for taking me to the hospital."

Andrea stared at me. "Then that makes us even. I saved your life, so you owed me. And I got what I was owed using your money."

I never imagined that my actions would end up costing Vincent his whole life. When I was in Ivalor, I never expected that the day Vincent and I said goodbye would become the last time we ever existed together in his memories.I had said goodbye to the 18-year-old version of me that Vincent had kept in his memories. Once I got together with Spencer, our relationship wasn't nearly as wonderful as I'd imagined. He still did whatever he wanted and never made the slightest effort to accommodate me. I was nothing more than a small, insignificant part of his life. But in Vincent's eyes, I had been his whole world. That meant that I'd thrown my whole world away. The decision to break up with Spencer came after I caught him with another woman. Only later did I realize how rotten he was at his core, and that he would never change.I'd once tried so hard to become part of his world. But in the end, all I wanted was to find my way back to Vincent.A month later, I came back to the place whe

And I, too, had finally moved on from the past. After Andrea left, I found out that Jason had been shouldering the burden of supporting the two of us all these years. He was the one who'd been searching for doctors for me all along. In his heart, someone as young as me simply shouldn't have had to suffer from such a disease so soon. He'd always been hoping I'd visit his place again for a drink, and that we'd get the chance to watch a race together someday.Although we'd given up racing a long time ago, there was no harm in watching a race and fulfilling a wish we'd never gotten around to. It gave the two of us something to enjoy together as well. That day, we took a case of beer up into the mountains and stayed there from midnight until dawn. We watched the entire race from the hillside, then sat together and watched the sun come up.Watching the sunrise became our way of saying goodbye to the past. As long as life went on, so would fate. With that in mind, I went on to live out

Jason was a businessman through and through, so he figured out what Andrea was getting at almost instantly.Without a second thought, he pulled out a card and tossed it at Andrea. "Take this. Use it."Tears suddenly welled up in Andrea's eyes. She wanted to thank him a thousand times over, but she didn't even know where to begin.Jason said helplessly, "I know you want to help Vincent, but you have to know your limits. And there's something you need to understand. This disease is simply next to incurable. Still, Vincent once saved my life, so whatever you need, as long as it's within my means, don't hesitate to ask."With a definite answer at last, Andrea couldn't hide how thankful she felt. But once she was gone, Jason sighed helplessly. He knew Andrea was basically throwing herself into a hopeless situation. But deep down, he hoped that one day, I'd really come to my senses again.Andrea began going from hospital to hospital, actively asking doctors about cases like mine and sea

Even after getting caught, Spencer still looked utterly arrogant. He shot Andrea a cold look, a mocking laugh escaping his lips. "Andrea, you really think way too highly of yourself. Since when have I ever needed to rely on anyone else?"Sounds to me like you're delusional, just like that fool in the wheelchair."I watched as Andrea's expression slowly turned cold. Never in a million years had she imagined Spencer was this kind of person. She'd simply been blind when she was younger, spending so long thinking Spencer was better than me.After Andrea kicked Spencer out, she abruptly sank to the floor and burst into tears. Maybe this life really had worn her down. Otherwise, she wouldn't have completely broken down like that over Spencer's cruel words.Maybe Andrea had had it the hardest in our relationship. After all, she'd always been torn between two men. She'd missed out on the version of me who was still in his right mind and fallen for the reckless, wild Spencer instead. So

That day, I was sitting in the care facility courtyard, soaking up the sun, when a woman with a sorrowful look suddenly barged in.She hurried over and stared intently at my face before exclaiming, "Vincent!"I had no idea who Vincent was, so I lowered my head and ignored her. Everyone there called me Vince. And I didn't know who she was talking to.When she came up to me and tried to touch me, I yelled, "Who are you? Why are you touching me?"Startled by my reaction, she backed off and stood a few feet away, fumbling for words but too afraid to come any closer. The doctors and nurses noticed the commotion, but they were already used to seeing things like this. They didn't recognize the woman, so one of them approached her to ask."Hello, miss. Could you tell me what your relationship with Mr. Shafer is?"Andrea managed a smile. "I'm his…"The words were on the tip of her tongue, but she couldn't get them out. And really, who was she to me now?Andrea thought it over for a lon

Andrea added, "The doctor said you have severe hypoglycemia. If I hadn't gotten you to the hospital in time, you could've died."I stayed silent as I more or less knew why. My memory had been getting worse these past few days. I kept forgetting whether I'd eaten or not, so I'd eat when I was hungry and skip meals when I wasn't. And lately, I'd been feeling so down that I just didn't feel like eating. As my memory continued to deteriorate, I was finding it harder and harder to remember things. Sometimes it felt like I couldn't even get a complete sentence out anymore.A sudden, unsettling thought crossed my mind. I might already be in the late stages of the disease. As it progressed, I'd lose more and more of my memories, forget everyone I knew, and eventually lose my ability to speak. At that point, there'd be no point in continuing treatment. As such, I turned back to Andrea and said, "Fine. We're even."By the time I was done talking, I didn't feel a thing anymore. Andrea, on th
