Chapter 23 He cornered me

"Where have you been? Is that makeup on your face? What happened to your hair?" My mom showered me with a string of questions.

"We've called Jackie's parents, they told us that you weren't working at their grocery store. Where have you been?" My dad looked at me worriedly.

"I was at a friend's party. It was dreadful, so I came back. Nothing happened. Don't worry about me." I waved my hand and said.

Feeling exhausted, I really couldn't afford to face the music.

But my mom was clearly determined not to let me get away with this one -

"Louisa, what have you been doing recently? You have never lied to us before. We've been calling all this time!"

I lowered my head and whispered, "Sorry, mom. I left my phone in my backpack and I left it in Leah's car. I'll get it tomorrow."

"Louisa, both your mom and I stayed up late till this hour waiting for you. Don't you think that we deserve the truth, not the excuses?" my dad asked.
