King Kerman’s POV

I felt it as soon as the suv pulled into the driveway. It was nothing like I’d ever felt before and I didn’t even know what to make of it.

Perhaps, it was just one of the things that didn’t really need much attention. Good. That I could settle on and move on from.

However, what I couldn’t ignore was the one I caught sight of. The Jean that flagged behind a tree, believing it was carefully hidden.

“Do you need me to repeat myself?” I followed, voice maintaining it’s flatness.

I had not the slightest idea who it was, I just knew there was someone there. Knowing my life, I couldn’t help thinking it could be someone sent by my mother to monitor my movements.

“Your majesty, are you really sure someone is here? I don’t see anyone around.”

My right hand man, Caius, whispered beside me.

I said nothing in reply and just continued to stare into the empty space and a moment later, he got an answer to his question.

She finally emerged from behind the tree, looking like a criminal that had been caught on the job.

Only downside was—I couldn’t imagine her as a criminal.

Small and dainty, who in their right minds would give a person like that such a job title?

“Who are you and what are you doing here?” Caius followed immediately as I watched her in silence

She was avoiding my gaze.

Unsurprised about that. I was used to it.

He leaned closer to me, whispering. “What do you think? Was she sent?”

Caius sort of doubled as a friend. Maybe the only confidant I could say I had in my own palace so our relationship was sometimes more casual than one would expect.

And for his question, I knew he didn’t want to be too direct but what he really meant was his suspicion about my mother. Perhaps she had sent this one my way again to secretly gather my thoughts and know my move.

I scoffed, looking away for a second.

Ever since I talked about removing the high elder from the position of beta, her need for control over my life only got worse. I could tell she was spiraling and I loved it.

I turned back to the strange girl. Perhaps, he was right.

Perhaps, she was really sent by my mother to create some kind of distraction.

“You’re not deaf. Strangers never stumble towards these corners so who are you and what do you want?”

She swallowed, taking a step forward. For some reason, my eyes took note of how her hair caught the sight of the setting sun.

“Uhm, hi, so I know this may look bad,” she began.

The voice…was starting to make me rethink things.

“I…uhm, actually came for a job.”

As the final words dropped from her lips, I squinted my brows…just for a few seconds in curiosity.

“What? A job?” Caius followed up.

She nodded.

“And who advised you to come here? What makes you think we have an opening?” He asked again.

She swallowed harder, taking two more steps towards me.

“Uhm, don’t go to him. Talk to me.”

She stopped, staring at him.

“Fine. I know you guys hardly accept people from coming into your abode, I’ve heard all about it. However,”

She flicked her gaze to me as if she could already tell who the boss was and who she needed to convince.

“…I really need this job. I need the pay. It’s very important to me. In fact it’s the most important thing to me right now and I’m not selective, I can do whatever you have available for me.”

A job?

Silence stretched.

My jaw tightened as I finally decided to speak. “Why didn’t you search for one in town?”

She shrugged. “I did. Most are not willing to hire a new face. I’m kind of new in town so I guess I haven’t gathered enough Karma that would put me in their good books.”

New in town?

“So what makes you think we will hire you since you’re new? I mean, does the good karma expectation not work for us?” Caius said.

She stared at me, voice dropping. “Last resort. I was also hoping it didn’t.”

“Yeah right,” he turned to me with a smirk, not hiding his next words. “I don’t think I believe her. She may have been sent.”

Fear clouded her face. “I…I assure you, I’m not bad news and I can do whatever work you give me. Even a maid,”

“Hire her.” I dropped

“What?”

“What?”

They both asked, puzzled.

I just turned, walking back to the car.

“Uhm sure, right away, your majesty.” He said behind me.

I got in, not minding either of them again.

New to town was good. I could guess she wasn’t from my mother and perhaps hadn’t even crossed paths with her.

It was a guess though and I could be wrong but that couldn’t be a problem. I just had to hire and observe for a few days. If she was clear of the mother Luna’s corruption, then she would definitely be welcomed fully into it.

It was time for me to start gathering my own personal forces and it didn’t matter if it was a maid or not, I just needed to start widening the circle of my own people.

It was bound to come in handy.

I watched as Caius took her to his own SUV. Definitely to interview her and I looked ahead, giving the signal for the gate to finally open up.

The battle between me and my mother and her minions was getting to a dangerous point of speculation and a dainty, wide eyed maid might just be the beginning of that story.

“You have a visitor, your majesty,” the guards at my door said, pushing the double doors open on either side.

I walked in, sighting the last person I wanted to see.

“Your majesty, you’re finally back,”

My jaw locked.

Mother Luna’s POV“Your grace, the chief elder is waiting for you. He has been visiting for a few days now… all in your absence.”My attendant said as soon as I got to the door.“Did he make mention of his reason?”“Not at all. He just said it’s important, hence why we had to send the letter.”I drew in a deep breath, knowing whatever the matter was couldn’t be simple. If victor wanted to see me so urgently, it had to be something very serious. So as I walked into my room, I wasn’t surprised when he jumped up and basically lunged at me.“Where have you been, Celes—,”I gave him a sharp look, causing him to pause immediately as he realized his mistake.“Oh forgive me, your grace.”The bastard. He was literally about to call my name forgetting that my attendants were still in the room with me. What a freaking lunatic.I gave him the stink eye before silently instructing them to leave the room. When we were finally alone, I got into it.“What the hell is wrong with you, Victor? You can

King Kerman’s POV“Wh—what do you mean?” “You heard me. I don’t plan on repeating myself.”She locked eyes with me and we stared in silence.I had things to do. Hell, I just received a report about another missing person’s case. I should be all over the place trying to catch the bastard responsible so he can take me to their master because I know he must have someone behind him. However, no matter how much I wanted to get up off that chair, I couldn’t do it.Her silliness was all I could think of.Lordship?Uhm, hi?I’m the king for goodness sake. Who is the brat trying to get on my nerves? After a while in total silence, she finally opened her mouth.“Well, it depends…If you’re a worthy leader, then of course, I must be ready to put my life on the line for you.”Silence.Ready to put her life on the line for me if she deems me worthy enough.Hmm.I ran my eyes over her one more time before rising to my feet. “Get up, we’re leaving the palace.”“Wait, right now?”“Why? Is there a p

Elle’s POVI lifted my head, staring at him. “I’m so sorry, your majesty. It was a slip of tongue. I’m really not used to this but I promise, I will try to work on it to avoid a repeat of this situation.”I thought I sounded ridiculous but at least, it should be enough to do the work.“And what if I reject your apology?”I paused, confused. Then a smirk escaped my lips. “Uhm, I’m not sure what you mean, your majesty.”“You heard what I said. Lift your head, let me see your face.”My goodness. He sounded like a maniac. A control freak who liked to be worshipped if my observation was being precise.Anyway, I lifted my head.“What if I do not accept your apology?”“I don’t understand,” I followed with a low dry chuckle.“I mean, I don’t think you will do that.”“And why is that?”What?“Well… for starters, I already made it clear that I’m new to town and very new to this…”I looked around me. “…place.”Silence.“And yet you came to look for work here. A place you are not very familiar

  • My Mate is a Vampire   A Royal Blunder.

Elle’s POVI stopped in the middle of the hallway, my mind going back to the direction I was given by sir Caius.I was still confused but shortly enough, I sighted what I believed to be a guard and walked towards him.“Uhm hi, I don’t mean to bother you, but could you direct me to the King’s office?”He drew his head back, clearly surprised by my question.“What? Are you new to the palace? Who doesn’t know the king’s office?”I swallowed, giving him an awkward laughter and trying to mask my rookieness. “Actually, I had a serious fall recently, and it has kind of messed with my head. If you could just point me in the direction, I would appreciate it.”He ran his eyes over me one more time as if he couldn’t believe the words coming out of my mouth but ultimately lifted his hand, pointing to a direction.“Oh, thanks.”I scurried off before he could say anything again. This was because I instinctively remembered Mara’s warnings. Although it was quite vague, I could tell she didn’t want

  • My Mate is a Vampire   A Calculated Delegation.

King Kerman’s POV“I need your words, chief, silence does nothing.”He swallowed, finally letting go of the tension in the his shoulder.“Forgive me, your majesty. I did not mean to abger you.”His lips said one thing but eyes said another.“You did not anger me, chief. You were only worried about the people, of course it is right to bring it up.”“Err, so why did you say those things a moment ago if you don’t mind me asking.”Exactly. Why did I?I smirked. “I was only pulling your legs. A simple joke if you will.”“Oh,” he muttered, feigning a smile but I caught the crack in his demeanor. Being put on the spot like that must have unnerved him, afterall, usurping the throne was a terrible idea that only brought doom to those involved. Besides he certainly did not expect it. He was used to having the last say in my own meetings. “Well, thank the moon goddess. So can I continue asking about the purpose of the warriors on the street?”“Of course you can and the answer is simple,” I loo

  • My Mate is a Vampire   A Challenger Of Authority.

King Kerman’s POV.My mind was still on the discussion I had with my mother a few days earlier so as I stood in front of my mirror, getting dressed for the morning meeting, I still felt a bit of anger. It wasn’t like that was the first time she was rubbing it in my face. Whenever she got the chance, she always reminded me about what she had to go through to secure the throne for me after my horrible past. That was the defense she always used to shut me up.The defense she always used to get me to do her bidding and of course, it’s always worked. However, I couldn’t imagine myself falling for her trap yet again. Not for this. Not for the woman I intended to spend the rest of my life with.I knew if I’m married to Thalia, she and my mother would only end up as a force against me. I would ultimately be alone in my own palace and I couldn’t let that.Besides, her father was another force to reckon with.I knew he had one or two things to say about my reign so naturally, there was no way
