Elle's POV

The ride back home grew quieter the farther we drove in. Apparently the bubbling atmosphere was more of a town thing. Deeper into the community was a more intimate and quiet experience but no less enjoyable.

I loved the fact that there was an option of different atmospheres and I could focus on anyone I was feeling more at a time.

“So how was your time back in the big city? I hear it’s pretty nice up there.”

“Oh it’s…it’s okay, I guess. Although with this quiet drive, I’m kind of reminded about how much I actually miss this place.”

“Right? You should come often,” she said with a smile.

“Oh you don’t need to tell me anymore. I will.”

We both let out a small laugh.

“About my father, could you tell me what the exact problem is? Have the doctors been able to find anything?”

She sighed gently, slightly avoiding my gaze like there’s something she doesn’t want to tell me.

“Mara, is there something? Please tell me if there is, don’t hide it.”

“It’s not like I don’t want to tell you. I just don’t know how your father will take it, he doesn’t want you knowing about any of it.”

“But he doesn’t have to know,” I pressed.

“Look Mara, that man means everything in the world to me. He’s all I have left and if anything happens to him, I’ll die.”

Silence.

“Just tell me what you know. However bad it may be, trust me, I can handle it.”

She focused her attention on me, staring with a deep intent before finally letting out a deep sigh.

“Fine, I’ll trust you and tell you the truth as I know it.”

“Thank you.”

She sighed deeply again before opening her mouth.

“Well, according to what I told you before…I lied.”

I squinted my eyes in confusion. “What do you mean?”

She looked away, certainly avoiding my eyes intentionally.

“Your father…your father's illness is not by any chance a minor one.”

My chest dropped.

“What?” It came out in a whisper.

“Are you saying…soemthing bad is going to happen to him?”

She looked at me once again. “Well…something like that,” she mumbled. “If we don’t do something about it earlier, he could…lose his lif—,”

“No,” I yelled. “Don’t finish it, please.”

She stopped.

A charged stillness settled in the air between us and I looked towards the window, unsure of how to react.

“Is there any way out? Is there any way I can help you?” I finally whispered, actually feeling hopeless.

“Well, yes. That was the main reason I actually called you back home.”

I turned.

“There is a way to help your father but I don’t think he’ll want you to do it.”

“What do you mean?”

“Your fathers illness is beyond ordinary eye. To cure it, you must also go beyond the ordinary.”

My brows furrowed as confusion settled over me.

“I’m sorry but I’m really not understanding what you’re saying.”

She paused, taking a moment to run her eyes over me.

“Have you heard about the rich ones or our community?”

“Rich ones? No. What is that?”

“It’s a group of wealthy but strange people that live around us, not very far from your house actually.”

“Oka—y. But what do they have to do with this?”

She sighed. Not angry but contemplating. “Their wealth doesnt just involve money. They are known to have special earth minerals and stones that do all sorts of things for the human body, including healing it. For your father to be healed, we need to get that stone. The problem is I don’t know how possible it is to get it.”

Suddenly I felt a pang of hope that seemed to be slipping from my fingers.

“Uhm, why do say so? I can definitely get it.”

She stared at me. “

“Yes but that’s the problem. Apart from the fact that they don’t let others come close, you know your father is also very protective of you. He will never want you with them because of how strange they are.”

My heart pumped because she was right.

The rest of the drive was quiet but I knew we both had the same thing running through our minds. She pulled into my driveway and even though it had been ages since I last went there, I instantly recognized everything.

“Why don’t you go join your father, he’s expecting you. I’ll just grab something from my house and join you shortly.”

“Okay, thank you,” I whispered, still shaken by her earlier words.

As she walked away, I turned and saw her house up ahead. It really wasn’t far away so I figured she’d be back soon. I just walked up the porch, eager to see my father.

“Dad,” I pushed the door open, calling out gently.

“It’s me Elle, I’m home.”

Silence met me so I figured he must be asleep or something. I just walked up the stairs and straight to his room.

When I got to his room, I paused for a moment.

I didn’t know what I'd see on the other side but whatever it was, I didn’t want my reaction to be so blatant so as not to spook him. I drew in a deep breath before twisting the lock.

“Dad!” I called out with a smile spread wide on my face, trying to conceal the fear.

“Elle?” He called out, pulling his body halfway off the bed.

His eyes were wide—Not in a pleasant sense of seeing me but in shock, like he was genuinely surprised to see me there.

“Elle, what are you doing here?”

I paused, confused. “Dad, it’s me.”

“Yeah, I know but what are you doing here?”

He didn’t sound mean or harsh but his tone was clear, he didn’t want me there.

I swallowed, feeling more confused. “What are you talking about? You sent that pretty neighbor of yours to pick me up. The same one you sent to tell me about your illness.”

His shock turned to horror, making me feel more confused.

“Dad, you’re scaring me. What’s going on?”

“I…I didn’t send anyone to you, Elle. I didn't send anyone to pick you up,” he muttered.

My heart dropped instantly.

Mother Luna’s POV“Your grace, the chief elder is waiting for you. He has been visiting for a few days now… all in your absence.”My attendant said as soon as I got to the door.“Did he make mention of his reason?”“Not at all. He just said it’s important, hence why we had to send the letter.”I drew in a deep breath, knowing whatever the matter was couldn’t be simple. If victor wanted to see me so urgently, it had to be something very serious. So as I walked into my room, I wasn’t surprised when he jumped up and basically lunged at me.“Where have you been, Celes—,”I gave him a sharp look, causing him to pause immediately as he realized his mistake.“Oh forgive me, your grace.”The bastard. He was literally about to call my name forgetting that my attendants were still in the room with me. What a freaking lunatic.I gave him the stink eye before silently instructing them to leave the room. When we were finally alone, I got into it.“What the hell is wrong with you, Victor? You can

King Kerman’s POV“Wh—what do you mean?” “You heard me. I don’t plan on repeating myself.”She locked eyes with me and we stared in silence.I had things to do. Hell, I just received a report about another missing person’s case. I should be all over the place trying to catch the bastard responsible so he can take me to their master because I know he must have someone behind him. However, no matter how much I wanted to get up off that chair, I couldn’t do it.Her silliness was all I could think of.Lordship?Uhm, hi?I’m the king for goodness sake. Who is the brat trying to get on my nerves? After a while in total silence, she finally opened her mouth.“Well, it depends…If you’re a worthy leader, then of course, I must be ready to put my life on the line for you.”Silence.Ready to put her life on the line for me if she deems me worthy enough.Hmm.I ran my eyes over her one more time before rising to my feet. “Get up, we’re leaving the palace.”“Wait, right now?”“Why? Is there a p

  • My Mate is a Vampire   Dangers of serving me.

Elle’s POVI lifted my head, staring at him. “I’m so sorry, your majesty. It was a slip of tongue. I’m really not used to this but I promise, I will try to work on it to avoid a repeat of this situation.”I thought I sounded ridiculous but at least, it should be enough to do the work.“And what if I reject your apology?”I paused, confused. Then a smirk escaped my lips. “Uhm, I’m not sure what you mean, your majesty.”“You heard what I said. Lift your head, let me see your face.”My goodness. He sounded like a maniac. A control freak who liked to be worshipped if my observation was being precise.Anyway, I lifted my head.“What if I do not accept your apology?”“I don’t understand,” I followed with a low dry chuckle.“I mean, I don’t think you will do that.”“And why is that?”What?“Well… for starters, I already made it clear that I’m new to town and very new to this…”I looked around me. “…place.”Silence.“And yet you came to look for work here. A place you are not very familiar

  • My Mate is a Vampire   A Royal Blunder.

Elle’s POVI stopped in the middle of the hallway, my mind going back to the direction I was given by sir Caius.I was still confused but shortly enough, I sighted what I believed to be a guard and walked towards him.“Uhm hi, I don’t mean to bother you, but could you direct me to the King’s office?”He drew his head back, clearly surprised by my question.“What? Are you new to the palace? Who doesn’t know the king’s office?”I swallowed, giving him an awkward laughter and trying to mask my rookieness. “Actually, I had a serious fall recently, and it has kind of messed with my head. If you could just point me in the direction, I would appreciate it.”He ran his eyes over me one more time as if he couldn’t believe the words coming out of my mouth but ultimately lifted his hand, pointing to a direction.“Oh, thanks.”I scurried off before he could say anything again. This was because I instinctively remembered Mara’s warnings. Although it was quite vague, I could tell she didn’t want

  • My Mate is a Vampire   A Calculated Delegation.

King Kerman’s POV“I need your words, chief, silence does nothing.”He swallowed, finally letting go of the tension in the his shoulder.“Forgive me, your majesty. I did not mean to abger you.”His lips said one thing but eyes said another.“You did not anger me, chief. You were only worried about the people, of course it is right to bring it up.”“Err, so why did you say those things a moment ago if you don’t mind me asking.”Exactly. Why did I?I smirked. “I was only pulling your legs. A simple joke if you will.”“Oh,” he muttered, feigning a smile but I caught the crack in his demeanor. Being put on the spot like that must have unnerved him, afterall, usurping the throne was a terrible idea that only brought doom to those involved. Besides he certainly did not expect it. He was used to having the last say in my own meetings. “Well, thank the moon goddess. So can I continue asking about the purpose of the warriors on the street?”“Of course you can and the answer is simple,” I loo

  • My Mate is a Vampire   A Challenger Of Authority.

King Kerman’s POV.My mind was still on the discussion I had with my mother a few days earlier so as I stood in front of my mirror, getting dressed for the morning meeting, I still felt a bit of anger. It wasn’t like that was the first time she was rubbing it in my face. Whenever she got the chance, she always reminded me about what she had to go through to secure the throne for me after my horrible past. That was the defense she always used to shut me up.The defense she always used to get me to do her bidding and of course, it’s always worked. However, I couldn’t imagine myself falling for her trap yet again. Not for this. Not for the woman I intended to spend the rest of my life with.I knew if I’m married to Thalia, she and my mother would only end up as a force against me. I would ultimately be alone in my own palace and I couldn’t let that.Besides, her father was another force to reckon with.I knew he had one or two things to say about my reign so naturally, there was no way
