Windy's POV

"I kept this letter for years," paliwanag ni Attorney Castillo. "Your father entrusted it to Don Alejandro before he passed away."

"Bakit hindi niya agad ibinigay sa amin?"

Napabuntong-hininga si Attorney Castillo.

"Because your father specifically requested that it should only be given to you when the time was right."

Napakunot-noo ako. Anong right time ang pinagsasabi niya?

"Right time?"

Tumango siya. "And according to Don Alejandro, that time is now."

My dearest Windy,

If you're reading this, it means I'm no longer there to see the wonderful woman you've become. I'm sorry I couldn't stay longer. If I had one wish, it would have been to watch you grow up beside your mother.

But life doesn't always give us what we want.

There's something I never told you.

Don Alejandro Domingo wasn't just my kumparé. He was my best friend. We built our dreams together when we were young. We made a promise to each other.

If one of us ever needed the other... we would never turn our backs.

If one day Don Alejandro asks something from you... I hope you'll at least listen. Trust him the way I trusted him.

Iyon na iyon. Doon nagtapos ang sulat. Ilang beses akong napakurap at nalilito.

"Miss Guanzon, according to Don Alejandro's Last Will and Testament, he wants you to marry his grandson."

"Ako?"

"Yes."

"Eh diba, mayaman to?" Tinuro ko pa ang picture ng Don. “Don Alejandro nga siya diba? So, mayaman to. Meaning, mayaman din apo niya diba?”

"Tama ka."

"So, syempre may mamanahin to sa lolo niya?"

At bakit—"

"I understand your reaction."

"Hindi po, Attorney." Tumayo ako at umiling.

"I had the exact same questions."

"Ha?"

"When Don Alejandro told me about his final wish."

Napakurap ako.

"Ibig sabihin... kahit kayo inisip ninyong baliw ang ideyang iyon?"

Bahagya siyang ngumiti.

"A little, but Don Alejandro believed something."

"Ano po iyon?"

Tumingin siya sa bintana.

"He believed you were the only person capable of saving his grandson."

Napakunot-noo ako. Saving? Bakit?

"I expected you to refuse."

Napakurap ako.

"And that's why Don Alejandro left one final instruction."

"Come with me to Manila."

Napakunot-noo ako. "Para saan naman po?"

"Meet Winston Domingo because Don Alejandro specifically instructed that neither of you should make a decision, until you've looked each other in the eye."

Napatingin ako kay Mama. Hindi na tama tong nangyayari. Parang gusto kong tumili kasi ayoko ngang umalis eh!

Pakinggan man lang natin sila."

"We'll leave tomorrow morning."

Sana talaga, tama tong desisyon na to.

~~~
Kinabukasan...
Napatigil ako sa harap ng pinakamalaking mansyon na nakita ko sa buong buhay ko.
Hindi. Parang kulang pa ngang tawaging mansyon iyon. Mas mukha itong isang palasyo.
Napakalawak ang garden dito at sobrang daming bulaklak. Isang napakalaking fountain na kumikislap sa ilalim ng sikat ng araw. Nakahanay sa driveway ang mga luxury car na mas mahal pa marahil kaysa sa buong bukid namin.
Napayuko ako at tiningnan ang sarili ko. Simpleng puting blouse at mapusyaw na asul na jeans lang ang suot ko at pinaresan pa ng gomang tsinelas. Nakatali ang mahaba kong buhok sa magulong ponytail matapos ang anim na oras na biyahe.
May ilang hibla ng buhok na nakalugay at nakapalibot sa mukha ko. Hindi ko na iyon inayos. Tutal, hindi naman ako narito para magpasikat sa kahit sino.
Pinangunahan ako ni Attorney Castillo papasok. Bawat hakbang namin ay umaalingawngaw sa sahig. Huminto sa ginagawa ang mga kasambahay para tingnan ako.
May ilan na magalang na ngumiti at may iba namang halatang nagtataka.
"This way, Miss Guanzon."
Huminto kami sa harap ng napakalaking dobleng pintuang kahoy. Minsang kumatok si Attorney Castillo. Pagkatapos ay itinulak niya iyon pabukas.
Sa loob, sabay-sabay na napatingin sa amin ang ilang tao. At may isang lalaki na nakatayo sa gitna. Suot ang isang perpektong tinahing itim na suit… Ang pinakaguwapo at pinakanakakatakot na lalaking nakita ko sa buong buhay ko.
Lalong tumalim ang kanyang panga nang magtama ang aming mga mata. Dahan-dahan niya akong tiningnan mula ulo hanggang paa na para bang sinusuri niya ang isang investment na wala naman siyang balak bilhin.
Lumitaw ang isang mapanuyang ngiti sa kanyang labi.
"That's Windy?"
Walang sumagot. Inilipat niya ang tingin kay Attorney Castillo.
"There has to be some mistake."
Muli siyang tumingin sa akin. Huminto ang tingin niya sa magulo kong ponytail. Sa mga hibla ng buhok na nakalugay sa paligid ng mukha ko. Pagkatapos ay napakibit-balikat siya habang bahagyang natawa.
"Check your records again. I'm not marrying a woman who doesn't even know how to brush her hair."
    Windy's POV Hindi ko alam kung nakatulog ba talaga ako kagabi. Pakiramdam ko kasi, ipinikit ko lang ang mga mata ko tapos bigla na lang akong ginising ng mahinang katok sa p***o. "Ma'am?" Mahinang boses ni Aling Rosa iyon. "Good morning po." Napamulat ako ng mga mata. Sandali akong napatitig sa kisame ng kwartong matagal-tagal ko na ring tinawag na akin. Ang parehong kwartong dati ay parang pansamantalang tutuluyan ko lang habang hinihintay na matapos ang kasunduang ipinataw ng huling habilin ni Don Ricardo. Ngayon, ito na ang huling umaga ko rito bilang Windy Guanzon. Hindi ko namalayang napangiti ako. "Sige po, Manang. Gising na ako." Pagkasabi ko noon ay dahan-dahan akong bumangon. Pagkabukas ko ng p***o ay bumungad agad sa akin ang malapad na ngiti ni Aling Rosa. Suot na nito ang magandang Filipiniana na ipinatahi ni Winston para sa lahat ng staff ng mansion. "Naku, Ma'am..." Napahawak siya sa dibdib niya habang nakangiti. "Ito na talaga ang araw." Napatawa ako. "Opo."
  • My Promdi Wife   Chapter 55: A Price I'm No Longer Willing to Pay
    Winston's POVThere was a quote my grandfather repeated throughout my childhood."The most expensive mistakes are the ones you realize too late."Back then, I thought he was talking about business. Failed investments, poor negotiations, and bad decisions.Tonight, for the first time I understood what he truly meant.~I couldn't stop thinking about what Windy had said."Kapag tapos na ang lahat... babalik na lang ako sa Batangas."She had said it so casually. So naturally. As though leaving was already decided. As though she had never planned to stay.The gala ended nearly an hour later. Guests continued thanking us before leaving one by one. I answered every handshake. Every congratulation. Every farewell. But I couldn't remember a single conversation because my mind was somewhere else.The drive back to the mansion was unusually quiet. Windy sat beside me, looking out the window. She smiled whenever she caught me looking. The same warm smile. Yet, it felt different now. Like someone
  • My Promdi Wife   Chapter 54: "...ano'ng plano mo?"
    Winston's POVI had spent years learning how to read people. A slight change in posture. A brief pause before answering. The way someone's eyes moved during a negotiation. Most people revealed more than they intended.Isabelle was no exception. She wasn't at the gala because of charity. She wasn't there to congratulate me. She wanted something.The only question was...What?The auction had just ended when Benjamin approached me."Sir."I turned toward him."Miss Isabelle Reyes is asking if she could have a few minutes of your time."I looked across the ballroom. She was standing near the terrace doors, patiently waiting. I glanced in Windy's direction. She was laughing with Veronica and one of the foundation's scholars.Good. She was enjoying herself."I'll be back."I said quietly before walking toward the terrace.The cool evening air greeted me the moment I stepped outside. The sounds of the gala became distant behind the closed glass doors. Isabelle stood near the railing, lookin
  • My Promdi Wife   Chapter 53: Sold
    Winston's POVThere were people you expected to see again. Business rivals, former colleagues, and old acquaintances. Then there were people you were certain had already become part of the past.Isabelle Reyes belonged to the second category.Or at least, I thought she did.For a brief moment, the ballroom disappeared, the conversations, and the music. Even the hundreds of guests inside the hall. All I saw was the woman standing at the entrance.She looked exactly the way I remembered, elegant, composed, and confident. Nothing about her had changed. Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for me."Winston." Benjamin's voice quietly brought me back. "The guests are waiting."I blinked, right. The speech. I looked away from the entrance and forced myself to focus on the podium."Ladies and gentlemen..." I continued my opening remarks as though nothing had happened.Years of experience made it easy to hide emotion. No one noticed. At least, that was what I believed.~The applause echoe
  • My Promdi Wife   Chapter 52: The Former F
    Winston's POVThere was something ironic about charity galas. People arrived wearing clothes worth millions. They donated impressive amounts.They smiled for the cameras. Then went home believing they had changed the world. My grandfather used to attend every single one. Not because he enjoyed them. But because he believed influence carried responsibility.I never questioned that. I simply inherited the obligation.Tonight, for the first time, I wasn't thinking about the event. I was thinking about the woman standing in the room next to mine.I adjusted the cuff of my tuxedo before checking my watch. Seven o'clock and we needed to leave.A soft knock came from the door."Sir." Benjamin stepped inside. "The car is ready."I nodded. "Is Windy ready?""I believe Miss Veronica is helping her with the finishing touches.""Good." I reached for my coat then stopped. "Benjamin.""Yes, Sir?"He looked at me expectantly. After a brief pause, I asked,"Do you think she'll be nervous?"A smile sl
  • My Promdi Wife   Chapter 51: The Decision
    Winston's POVI barely slept. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the same three things. My grandfather's letter, his journals, and that photograph.For years, I believed I knew every important chapter of his life. Apparently, I didn't.The next morning, I arrived at the office before everyone else. The building was unusually quiet. No executives, no assistants, and no meetings. Just me.I placed my grandfather's journals on my desk one last time before closing them. There was only one person left who might know the whole story. I picked up my office phone."Benjamin.""Yes, Sir?""I need the contact information of Attorney Salvador."A brief silence followed. "The former family lawyer?""Yes.""I'll arrange it immediately."Less than an hour later, the elderly lawyer walked into my office. Attorney Salvador had worked with my grandfather for more than thirty years before retiring.His hair had completely turned white. His posture wasn't as straight as I remembered. But his eyes remain
