Chapter 5

Renae's POV

It was morning and I had just woken up. Light rays seeped through the cracks in the walls and the small opening of the cave.

I stretched out my body and nudged myself out of the arms of the man that was sleeping beside me. His face was bathed in the sun rays, giving him an angelic appearance.

I chuckled as I gave him a keen look. I watched the rise and fall of his chest as he slept peacefully. No more whizzing nor whimpering, he was at ease.

My eyes roved over his whole length and I realized how tall he must be. He looked sturdy with an appreciable amount of muscles distributed in appropriate parts of his body.

Although his eyes were closed, it did not hide his beauty. His jaws were perfectly chiseled to fit his cheeks, giving his face an almond shape.

His lips were thin and pink, making me remember the kiss we shared. I blushed and grinned sheepishly.

"Dammit! I am late!" I yelled suddenly, breaking my gaze from him. He shifted in his sleep and I blamed myself for yelling. Thankfully, he reverted back to sleep.

Slowly, I rose to my feet. Grabbing the clothes I had hung on a tree last night. I dashed out of the cave and rushed back to school.

Classes had already begun. I made my way into the potion classroom and could not but notice how shocked everyone was as they gazed at me.

I checked my body repeatedly and that was when I realized that I was covered in leaves and dirt, all eyes were on me.

"What the heck is this?" Miss Clark, the Potion teacher, asked , looking irritated.

"It was my first shift yesterday… I spent the whole night in the woods," I responded.

"Hmmmm… I see… I guess that's why you are late. Are you okay?" She asked with concern written on her face.

"Yes Ma'am."

"Ensure you take good care of yourself after the class," she said and waved me off.

I took my seat beside June and Eden, their eyes roved over me with an amusing look plastered on their faces.

"You must have enjoyed your first shift, it must be ecstatic for you to have spent the whole night in the woods," June whispered, grabbing a pile of potion as Miss Clark shot a demeaning look at her.

"Of course, no doubt about that. It's clearly written on her face," Eden supplied.

Miss Clark cleared her throat breaking into our discussion, "you should concentrate and stop murmuring! We are preparing a healing potion for the Beta today, and his daughter will soon be here for it," she yelled.

"The Beta's daughter? Jennifer Tower? Puff! I dislike her! That arrogant bitch!" June whispered, rolling her eyes while Eden and I stifled our laughter.

June smirked and continued to stir in eucalyptus leaf juice into snake bile.

"How do you feel now?" She asked pouting her lips at me.

Pretending to find taurine fascinating, I stared at it intently and calmly replied, "Nothing different, except for multiple fractures, torn muscles, and a shifted liver."

"Are you still in pain?" Eden asked, accidentally burning his finger while igniting the gas. He waved his index finger rapidly in pain.

"At least better than you," I replied, referring to his burnt finger and he chuckled.

"And what about your mate?" June asked, holding a test tube against the sunlight for color comparison.

"This color seems off, something is missing," Eden commented.

June frowned and glanced at him.

I handed her a spoonful of clove powder,

"this is the ingredient missing, you forgot this."

"Gosh! Thanks," June said, taking the spoon carefully from me.

"And sorry, no mate," I blushed as I said those words.

"Really?" June asked, eyeing me.

Who was that guy… last night? Who is he really?

"Hey, you're missing an earring!" June yelled, suddenly breaking into my thoughts.

I reached up and indeed, one earring was missing, the one with June's name on it.

"I said it! The whole experience was fun-filled! You even lost an earring and it happened to be the one with my initial," June pouted

"I'll go look for it tonight," I promised.

"I'll come with you!" June yelled.

"No, no, if you come, there will be no one to cover for me," I said and June looked away sullenly.

After class, I discreetly packed some cheese, bread, apples, and medication into my backpack.

I quietly climbed out through the window and I set off for the woods.

"I swear, I just didn't want an innocent person to lose their life," I awkwardly said to my wolf as I proceeded. She grunted mockingly and I tried more. "Do we?" I asked but Ryn continued mockingly and I blushed.

Suddenly, I heard a sound coming from the bushes behind me. "Looks like we've got company," I mind synced with Ryn and hid.
