PROLOGUE

A night sky, so dark that it felt too ominous. The forest seemed to be a labyrinth with no end. Each step seemed to take a little bit closer to the pits of hell.

That's how they felt.

Numerous footsteps echoed in the eerie silence of the dark forest as the coven of witches kept running from the danger behind.

Their hearts were all out of breath but the urge to live a little longer was enough to keep them going.

The youngest of them could nearly keep up with the rest. Her red hair was wet with all the sweat, clinging to her white paled face. But she kept running, following others.

Soon they heard the footsteps behind.

They were close...so close.

The prey decided to hide as the predator neared and neared.

She kept her hand on her mouth, trying to stop her erratic breathing. The wide tree though did nothing to hide her.

She was scared as none of her other sisters were near.

She was now alone.

A strong hand took a hold of her red strands, and she screamed in agony.

"It's the little one." A croaked laugh was followed as her scary eyes met the black eyes of her tormentor.

His face was covered with a black cloth. A huge scar, almost inhumane, resided on his left eye. It proved that no mercy was going to be given to her as she waited for her death in the arms of a monster. She looked behind him to see a few of his members with their faces hidden looking at her with those malicious eyes. A sharp blade blocked her view, earning her attention towards the one holding her.

She shivered in fear, eyes closed, she wished it could be as painless as possible.

But a growl interrupted her last prayers, or what she thought was her last.

The grip on her hair loosened. She felt with a thud on the ground. Screams and growls erupted around her as she pressed her hand to her ears. Her muffled crying seemed to dissolve under those heinous screams.

Soon everything was quiet, so quiet that for a moment she thought her ears were not working. But when she opened her eyes, the scene in front of her was so gruesome that it made her sick.

Decapitated bodies lying around, some still jerking as the blood oozed out from the former's neck. Her eyes roamed as she came face to face with a white wolf.

A she-wolf. Alone.

The red blood formed an alluring pattern on her silk-like soft furs.

Eyes were red, matching the cruelty of the night, staring right back at the shivering witch.

Her breath hitched as the wolf approached her. She couldn't take her eyes off it. The wolf seemed so majestic, elegant yet deadly and dangerous.

The wolf slowly approached her and nudged her hand. She looked down to see her hand bleeding.

The wolf slowly took a step back and went behind the tree.

Soon, a beautiful young girl steps out and walked toward the witch.

She smiled, "Are you okay ?".

Her voice was so soft yet so stern.

"Y-you are going to hurt me ?"

The witch could no more recognize her voice. It was so difficult for her to form those words.

"I just saved you...to hurt you? No, of course not."

The witch slowly nodded and bowed her head in gratitude.

"There is a very old coven residing in the east of the forest, you will be safe. Would you like me to take you there ?". The witch looked at the werewolf's eyes.

It was nothing evil, she genuinely cared. Nodding at her she followed the wolf towards the east. The night grew colder and colder as they kept marching towards the coven.

The she-wolf suddenly stopped and pointed down a village. It was glowing with all the lanterns hanging around each house. People were still out, she could feel the essence of witches and wizards around her.

"I can't accompany you anymore. I hope now you can find your way." The she wolf said with a small smile.

The witch nearly cried with relief. Slowly yet cautiously she held the hands of the she wolf.

"You saved my life. I can't give you anything now as I am still young and foolish. But in the near future, I will surely pay this debt back."

The wolf gave a small smile and took a few steps back. She turned and jumped down the hill. Her human figure turned into the same white fur as she vanished into the forest.

The witch kept looking at the way she disappeared.

"I hope I could find you in your time of need."

Then she marched towards the coven of witches.
