Chapter 3

Author: Orange Isle
Derek had a deep cut in his palm from the scalpel blade. The flesh was torn open, and it was a gory, bloody mess that would make anyone's scalp crawl. However, he still held on tightly and refused to let go.

Dominic saw what was happening, and his expression changed drastically. He rushed over to us and twisted my wrist violently. He used so much force that he nearly crushed my bones, forcing me to loosen my grip.

The scalpel hit the floor with a loud clatter. He then kicked it far away before shouting at me, "Are you done making a fuss?"

I felt weary and tired. I couldn't even end my own life that easily.

Daphne's face turned even paler when she saw Derek getting hurt because of me. She bit her lower lip hard as tears spilled down her face.

She fought to sit up in bed and held a hand to her heart, screaming at me, "Autumn! Just hurt me if you have to! Why did you have to hurt Derek instead? Don't hurt him!

"It's my fault for being switched at birth! It's my fault for stealing your true identity! Just take out your anger on me instead!

"But if you're still not happy, then I'll just kill myself right now!"

She then threw the blanket off, stumbled out of bed, and hurried toward the emergency stairwell outside the room.

"Daphne!"

Dominic's face fell as he frantically ran out after her. Derek also forgot about his bleeding hand and gritted his teeth through the pain to chase after her.

Soon, a dramatic situation began playing out at the stairwell.

Dominic grabbed Daphne from the back and hugged her while she spread her arms wide and cried so hard that she couldn't stop trembling.

"Let go, Dominic! Autumn will only stop making things hard for you all if I disappear from the face of this earth! I'll just jump down from here!"

The more she struggled, the harder Dominic hugged her. Meanwhile, Derek hovered around them, anxiously trying to deescalate the situation and pulling at them both.

It was a chaotic mess.

I slowly made my way over to the stairwell and looked down. We were at least a dozen floors up. I figured that it would be more than enough to complete my mission.

"Alright, alright. It's not like you're going to jump in 20 years anyway. Let me do the jumping instead."

With that, I flipped over the balustrade and jumped off the railing.

Derek seemed to have sensed something and looked in my direction just a split second before I jumped. He then quickly flew toward me like a madman.

"Autumn!"

He threw himself flat on the ground and managed to grab the very edge of the hem of my shirt. The veins on his right arm bulged hard as my body dangled midair, his blood dripping onto my face.

Dominic heard the commotion and turned around abruptly. He then stared at us in extreme shock and disbelief. He let go of Daphne like he'd just jolted awake and rushed over to us, getting down on the floor and helping Derek pull me back up.

I got anxious when I saw that I was about to be brought back to safety. I kept swinging my body in the air, flailing my arms about and trying to slip out of my shirt, but eventually, they were still able to drag me back up.

Derek fought to catch his breath as he stared at me. His eyes reflected a belated sense of fear in them.

"Were you trying to get yourself killed? You could have just told us what you wanted instead of trying to kill yourself like that!"

Dominic wiped the sweat from his forehead, his voice trembling. "All you wanted was to come home and be the true heiress of the Fletcher family, isn't it? We'll just go back and discuss things with Dustin! Stop torturing us like this!"

I was stunned.

I would have jumped for joy if they told me this days ago. But now, I just wanted to die in this world and be transported back to my real world.

The moment Daphne heard this, her face paled even more, and her reddened eyes welled with unshed tears. A fleeting look of jealousy and viciousness reflected in her eyes at that moment, but it disappeared almost immediately.

"I don't know how much longer my body can hold out anymore, Autumn. Please just wait for me. Once I'm dead, you…"

Before she could finish, she suddenly clutched at her chest, closed her eyes, and fell straight to the floor.

"Daphne!"

As soon as I got in the car, a cloud of smoke overwhelmed me, and I passed out. When I came to again, my body felt limp and weak as I lay sprawled across the back seat of the moving car.Through the rearview mirror, I met the cold, ruthless gaze of the family driver, Robert Huffman.I calmly raised my eyes to meet his, asking, "Who put you up to this?"He ignored me. He kept driving until he finally stopped the car at an abandoned warehouse in the middle of nowhere.Robert roughly grabbed my arm, yanked me out of the car, and dragged me into the warehouse.Inside, the person sitting there waiting for me was Daphne, as I expected.Robert walked over to her with a fawning look and said, "Daphne, I've caught the wretch who stole your identity!"Daphne slowly walked toward me, her eyes filled with hatred. "Autumn, why did you have to come back? Your very existence is the knife that threatens me

Finally, I heard the System's anxious voice.[Autumn, you're finally awake! You were hypnotized for the ninth time while unconscious. After waking up, you completely forgot about me. Your brain blocked out my voice too. I was so worried!]The next second, I saw the game mission panel that the System pulled up. I was shocked to discover that the progress bar had actually reached 96%."What happened?" I asked the System.[You were critically injured and on the verge of death. Your brothers are now consumed by regret. You're only 4% from completing the mission and claiming the billion-dollar reward. Once you complete it, you can choose whether to stay here or return to your original world.[Oh, right. They never actually gave your heart to the fake daughter. You mean far more to them now than Daphne does.]I found it utterly ironic. Was this how they planned to make up for their regrets after hypnotizing me against my will? What was even more ridiculous was that they still kept Dap

After letting out a sigh, Harold also turned and left.I slowly opened my eyes, catching only a glimpse of their figures fleeing in a hurry.I had been sleepwalking. Last night, I was certain I had fallen asleep in the bedroom. Yet today, I had somehow woken up in this storage room. What was even stranger was that everything in this room felt deeply familiar, as if I had lived here for years. When my brothers came rushing over just now, I had instinctively closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep. The moment their eyes fell on the old scars on my wrists, they recoiled slightly as though they had been burned. Their faintly trembling breaths and the way they had ultimately fled also left me questioning whether I really was a daughter of the Fletcher family.I reached under my pillow and pulled out an ordinary-looking textbook. When I opened it to the first page, I saw the name "Autumn Fletcher" written boldly across it. It was done in my handwriting. So I really had lived here b

While washing up that evening, I discovered another strange detail. My palms were covered in thick calluses, as if I were used to hard labor. But I was the pampered daughter of the Fletcher family. Who would dare make me work? There was also a large burn scar on the back of my hand, along with a series of deep and shallow cuts across my wrist.I had no memory of these scars at all.As I lay in that unfamiliar bed, I tossed and turned for hours. It wasn't until the sky began to lighten that I finally sank into deep sleep. The Fletcher household was thrown into chaos the next day. By lunchtime, I still hadn't appeared at the dining table. My brothers went to my room looking for me, only to find it empty. Even the bed was cold, which meant I hadn't slept there the night before.Remembering how I had been desperate to die before, they couldn't help but panic.Dustin, his face ashen, ordered someone to check the surveillance footage. However, the footage showed that I hadn't left th

However, my family members' faces looked like they were shrouded in mist, making it hard for me to see them clearly.I tried to focus my eyes on them, but suddenly, all I saw was blood everywhere.I then jerked awake violently. The smell of disinfectant hanging in the air told me that I was at the

I didn't know if I was dead. However, my soul detached from my body and floated in the air. I watched with cold eyes as Dustin, Dominic, and Derek practically tripped over themselves, rushing up to me.Derek looked the worst of all. He clutched a hand to his chest as his facial features contorted in great agony, looking as though he was the one whose heart had been pierced by a sharp blade instead. He collapsed over my body, desperately trying to stop my bleeding wound with his hand, crying and pleading in my ear over and over."No, don't die! I didn't mean it! I don't want you to die!"However, the blood wouldn't stop gushing out from the wound, dyeing his hands red and pooling on the floor in a frightening manner."Dominic! Save her!" Derek wailed, clutching at straws as he looked at Dominic with bloodshot eyes.At that moment, Dominic's hands, which were usually very calm and steady even during the goriest and most difficult surgeries, trembled violently. He shakily reached
