Celeste’s POV

Today was a big day at Rosemary Atelier.

I arrived early to spring clean our untouched conference room–we never needed it before. But this morning the studio was buzzing with excitement as everyone settled into their seats in the spacious room.

After falling pregnant and believing my dreams were dead for years. After fighting against everyone’s doubts–my own included. After rolling with the punches, the sabotage attempts.

I was finally here.

“I’m so delighted to welcome you all to our team.” I said, smiling at the fresh faces. “My name’s Celeste Sinclair, also known as Rosemary, your CEO and Creative Director here at Rosemary Atelier.” I gestured to my business partner beside me. “This is Grace Matthews, our COO and Managing Director.”

Grace introduced the new hires.

“This is Rachel, our new bench jeweler, who will be helping Celeste keep up with orders as we expand the business.” She said, pointing to a quiet woman with smile lines around her eyes.

Ryan’s POV“Interrupting our dinners, crying over Bonnie, and now this smear campaign that only he can resolve? Can’t you see that Damien’s doing everything he can to keep you in his clutches?” I clenched my fists to stop myself from reaching out to hold Celeste’s face and force her to look me in the eye. She had to know what my words meant, even if I couldn’t say them. But she just folded her arms over her chest.“I can see it plain as day.” She said with that stubborn tilt of her chin.I took a step back like I’d been shot. She couldn’t mean…“If you can see his manipulation, why do you still give him the time of day?” I asked, searching her face for some kind of window into her mind. “Don’t tell me that’s what you want, Celeste.”I waited, desperate for her to say Damien was the last thing she wanted. I needed to know that once I’d placated my father, worked my way out of this fake relationship with Michelle, that it wouldn’t be too late. That she wouldn’t be back in that scoundr

Celeste’s POV“Celeste, none of this is true.” Ryan shook his head. “You’re kind, dedicated and loyal. Not the monster they’re painting you to be.” He said it with such certainty, I almost believed him.“I abandoned Bonnie and put all my energy into designing.” I said with a shrug. “Denying it would make me a liar too.”Grace interjected. “They’re saying you emotionally abused her. That you caused her mental breakdown.”My mouth fell open.I had always treated my daughter with love and respect.“If anyone’s to blame for her mental state, it’s Damien and Vanessa.” Ryan tilted my head to face him. “You didn’t abandon Bonnie. You tried your damndest with her until it became clear your efforts were in vain.” His voice rose, eyes fierce with passion. “Do you think you deserve to have your career ruined over this? Because I sure as hell don’t.”Grace nodded in agreement. “Ryan’s right, love. Just look at some of these comments.”She read from Jenny’s phone. “Your kids should always come b

Celeste’s POV“Hello, Mr. Edwards, this is Celeste.” I said warmly. “Ryan is unavaila–”I yelped as the phone was ripped from my ear.I spun around, pulse racing, and watched my assistant cut the call.Ryan took a threatening step forward, and I stepped back on impulse–right into the conference table. He towered over me, startling green eyes meeting mine with a fiery anger.“What do you think you’re doing, answering my phone?” He asked, voice a low growl.I swallowed. “It was your dad–I was only trying to help.”His chest heaved, nostrils flared, as he took a steadying breath.“Don’t answer my phone–especially if it’s my father.” He said, trying for calm but missing it by a long shot. “It’s a huge invasion of my privacy.”My cheeks burn at the insult. It was perfectly acceptable for him to caress my face in the privacy of the storeroom. But for me to answer his dad’s calls–that was crossing the line? Were we not even friends now that he had someone new?“Respect your privacy? That’s ri

Vanessa’s POV“Auntie Vanessa! You’re back!” Bonnie squealed with pure joy.She ripped her hand free from Damien’s and flung herself at me–hugging my legs with all her might. I plastered a smile on my face and petted her head.I was annoyed I had to go back to playing mommy for this brat.“Sweetheart! I missed you so much!” I said with warmth I didn’t feel. “I never want to be separated from you again!”Literally, gag.Damien watched, frozen as his spawn clung to me.A waft of chocolaty deliciousness sent my cravings into overdrive. But I knew for a fact he hadn’t a clue how to bake, so who…“Babe, why aren’t you celebrating? Don’t tell me you’ve replaced me already?” I asked teasingly, but my smile didn’t reach my eyes. When he blanched, my nostrils flared. Was that slut really back?“I’m famished.” I pushed past Damien, dragging Bonnie behind me. “Prison food is utter garbage.”“Was it scary in there, Auntie Vanessa?” She asked timidly.I suppressed a shudder.“Yes–but I stayed stron

Third-Person POV***Earlier that day***Vanessa narrowed her eyes when the officer undid her handcuffs. When he let her walk into the visiting room alone and closed the door behind her, she knew something was up.If she’d learned anything in jail, it was that privacy was a luxury. But when she walked down the row of booths and saw her visitor, the special treatment made sense. If a man as wealthy as Maximillian Edwards wanted privacy, he’d get it.Vanessa sat on the plastic stool, mildly impressed that Andre had made this happen. She did her best to look pitiful as she reached for the phone, hand trembling. “Thank you for coming to see me, Mr. Edwards. It’s been a difficult past couple of days.” She said shakily. “I don’t care about what happens to me, but my daughter deserves a better life.” She caressed her belly over her jumpsuit with a gleam of tears in her eyes. “Please–I need your help.”“As much as I sympathize with your situation, Miss Abrams, my hands are tied.” He said int
