Chapter Twenty-Three:

“I’m fine, Hollis. Really.” Whitney sighed with agitation during the drive back to her place after lunch the following afternoon. Fidgeting with the top button of her dark wash skinny jeans, she cast an indifferent glance at her worried blonde girlfriend. “It’s not even like we were close or anything...I’m over everyone asking me if I'm okay already!”

It was as if an internal switch had flipped itself off overnight. Whitney finally cried herself to sleep cradled in Hollis’ arms at around one A.M, and everyone at the Bogard residence braced themselves for what was to come when the grieving woman woke up and had to face the news all over again. What they weren’t prepared for was her seemingly emotionless, disinterested attitude. She went about showering and socializing like normal, albeit with a skeptical Hollis following her around everywhere just in case she broke down again. D
