Rejected Luna

Delilah couldn't  believe what had just happened.

I must be dreaming. This cannot be true.

But the cold edge of the crown pressed into her head reminding her that it was indeed reality.

The whole pack had turned to look at her and at that moment Delilah iust wanted the ground to open up and swallow her.

But the ground didn't and she was left sitting down there looking back at the pack watching the different sets of expressions etched on ýtheir faces.

"The one who has the crown please step forth" Adams voice broke through her reverie.

Delilah wasn't sure she could do this. She had been daydreaming about what it must have felt to be a Luna but now she suddenly had the moon crown on her head and she was backing out.

The pack continued to stare at her watching her every single move as she dragged herself up from where she sat and slowly made her way to the platform.

Adam stood smiling on the platform as she walked over to it, everything suddenly feeling like a dream.

She climbed it with the help of Adam who was still beaming at her.

When Delilah was onto the platform Adam turned her to face the pack.

"The moon Goddess had helped us pick a Luna…"

"No!" Someone thundered from behind Delilah and she closed her eyes.

Deep down she knew this was coming and she had prepared herself for it.

Adam stopped his speech and turned back to look at fate who was standing on the platform, her face a mask of pure fury.

"Why do you interrupt what I'm trying to do?" Adam growled.

"Don't take her as your Luna" Alpha Dean voice cut through the night air sending a shudder down her spine.

Adam turned to face the Alpha, a confused look on his face.

"What do you mean it's clear the crown chose her from the pack. When do you try to jeopardise what the Moon Goddess had picked "

"I have no problems with the Moon Goddess choice, but only if that choice is worthy to become a Luna."

Delilah just stood there facing the pack, her eyes closed as she had an Internal dilemma between fight or flight.

Why was she wolf less. Maybe if she had a wolf like other normal wolves none of this would have happened.

Maybe she would have been accepted like every other wolf.

"What's going on?" Adam asked, his tone still perplexed.

"That woman has no wolf."

Delilah opened her eyes finally and turned to look at Adam who was now regarding her sullenly, like she was solehting he wanted to get rid of.

Slowly he reached out across her head and picked the crown off.

"I'll be taking that back."

Delilah felt weak. Everything was slowly crashing around her and the words of Kate were filtering back into her head.

People always said the Moon Goddess never made a mistake when she was choosing mates but right now that felt like an ugly lie.

"Then what is to be done? The moon crown chose her for some reason I don't understand and the crown is mostly never wrong about those it picks.

Mostly never.

That means it had made a mistake. She wasn't the Luna , something was wrong.

"Take my own daughter. She is the right candidate for this. She's the daughter of an Alpha and she knows her duties."

A murmur ran through the pack and there were some protests.

The pack knew what the Alpha was about to do was wrong but he was still going to do it anyway she knew that much.

Delilah closed her eyes again. They were even willing to go this far to make sure she didn't take that position.

Eyes closed delilah kept fighting the tears that were threatening to strom down from her eyes.

She must show weakness. She must cry and most importantly she musnt show that she was hurt.

"If the Moon Goddess chose hee as a mate for our Alpha it is only right that we abuse by her decisions and take her with us."

Delilah opened her eyes to see Dean shaking his head slowly, anger etched on his face.

"Didn't you hear me? She has no wolf. What can she possibly offer to the pack? She won't even be able to continue the lineage of the pack."

They talked as if she wasn't there, as if she was just another inanimate object decorating the space of the settlement.

Dean reduced his voice to a whisper now as he walked closer to Adam whose brows were furrowed in thought.

"Between you and me take my daughter Kate. She might not be the chosen mate but she'll fit in perfectly. She has all the qualities you need in a Luna.

Delilah knew Kate knew nothing about being a Luna but she kept her tongue in check.

"She's healthy, she's fertile and loyal. Delilah will offer you nothing. If you're still afraid you can bring her along if that eases you."

Adam looked at Kate who was behind Dean, her eyes glittering like someone who had won the lottery.

Then he shifted his eyes back to Delilah who held his gaze as long as he looked at her.

"Very well then we'll go with your decision. We'll take your daughter, pack the other  one up and bring her along too."

Delilah blinked furiously in an attempt to stop the tears that were now certainly coming.

Dean wore a smile on his face as he stood hands with Adam who put on his shades and walked down the platform with the other Betas in tow.

Dean beckoned for Delilah who hesitantly came and he hugged her, his lips directly in her ears.

"You best behave and agree to this plan. In your own best interest, failure to do so and I'll be merciful with you no more."

To the pack it would seem like he was congratulating her on her success but that was just a facade.

Delilah pulled away from him, her eyes wet with tears, her face stained by the trail.

"Don't cry now at least you're leaving this pack you have no use here. Maybe you'll be useful  there. Now get off, get dressed and join them."

Kate crossed Delilah stopping beside her with a glower on her face.

"Hope to see you there, freak."
