He was supposed to push her away, she expected him to push her away, but he stood there

His palm made contact with her back, and he rubbed slow circles on it

“Sharon Gray, what the fuck are you wearing”

His voice was strained

And somehow, it sounded comical, it didn't sound like he was reprimanding her

She looked up at him

“It's— it's a nightgown I bought online

I won't wear it anymore if—”

“I never said I didn't like it” his voice came in a whisper

“But—you never said you liked it either”

Luca pulled away from her embrace

“I like it if I'm the only one seeing it”

She must've heard wrong, she heard wrong, Luca was not talking about her

“What—?”

“Nevermind”

He wasn't going to repeat it again

“Have you had dinner?”

He asked her

“Not really, I barely touched my food when you arrived”

Why was he asking if she has eaten? Why was she answering him like she wanted them to eat together?

“Go, I'll be with you shortly”

She nodded

It was all too awkward. We're they perhaps—

Behaving like a normal couple?

Impossible, he was just being courteous because he wasn't drunk. He probably had a good day or something

Sharon tried to eat, but she couldn't concentrate on the food

Then she felt him, Luca

She raised her head up, and there he was. He was wearing a black tee and loose brown pants

She could see the muscles through his shirt

She could trace the contours of his jaw with her eyes

His hair was slightly wet

“Hey”

He called, making her realise that she had been staring at him for too long

“Um— hi”

She sounded like an awkward teenager

“Pass me the salad”

Her movements were clumsy, and it amused him

They had dinner like they were a normal couple, which was weird

“Luca”

Sharon called

He looked at her, his eyes had been on her the whole time

“Can I— go see my mother tomorrow?”

It was a risky request. There was no way in the world he was letting her do that

“Yes

Yes you can”

*******************

Sharon breathed the familiar air of home as she walked into The Gray family mansion.

Arman had come with her on Luca's instruction. Also there was another bodyguard aside from the driver.

So technically, Sharon had come with three men, two of which were armed

Sharon thought it was unnecessary really

Lucky for her, her father was out of town. She wasn't there to see him anyway

Immediately Mrs Gray locked eyes with her daughter, she ran over to embrace her.

She had been feeding the birds, a little hobby of hers. Also the Gray mansion was built on a plot that had many trees.

Sharon let out a tear as her mother held her

“I missed you mum, I really did”

Her mother looked over to see Arman standing with the other bodyguard

“Your husband doesn't take security lightly”

Sharon smiled

“He doesn't”

Sharon and her mother chatted for hours on end

Arman and his buddy were on the ground floor,

“Is he— bad to you?”

Mrs Gray asked, looking serious.

She had been beating around the bush, trying to make Sharon settle down before they would talk about the elephant in the room

“He's— I don't know”

Sharon said, fidgeting in her seat

“Does he abuse you in any way?”

“No, not really”

Sharon's mind drifted to the first day she spent at Luca's mansion. How he treated her roughly, how he bruised her with a kiss

She remembered how he choked her in the bathroom at their engagement dinner, how he separated the house so he could avoid her

How he cheated on her and made her watch

That could count as abuse

But there was one thing that separated Luca from her father, actually there were a lot

No matter how angry he was, he never laid a finger on her. He didn't beat her up, or rape her

He could've raped her, when she was drunk, when she disguised herself as Riann and drank herself to stupor. But he didn't

and if he was drunk, he took his frustration out on the decor, the furniture, everything but her

“He's not abusive mum, he's just distant”

Mrs Gray thought for a moment

“Are you happy with him?”

Sharon was silent. She hadn't really thought of it before, but if she had to choose between spending time in her father's house, under his dictates

And enduring marital life with Luca, she would choose Luca

And she had no idea why

Was it because she was happier with him?

“I don't know mum, I don't understand anything. It's complicated”

Mr's Gray hugged her daughter

“I tried mum, I tried to poison him. I couldn't do it”

She sobbed through her mother's embrace

Then she reached I to get purse and brought out the bottle

“I can't do it, I just can't”

She slipped it into her mother's palms

There was silence for a moment

Mrs Emilia looked into her daughter's eyes

“You love him”

“No i don't”

“I wasn't asking you Sharon, I was telling you” A single tear slipped down Mrs Gray's eye

Sharon was in disbelief. Did her mother really think she loved Luca? It would explain a lot of things, but Sharon didn't believe she loved him

You can't keep denying it Sharon, I've known you since you were in my womb.

“I don't, it's not—”

You don't have to take my word for it, just don't get hurt okay?

Don't you dare get hurt

I felt his eyes move from my face,to my neck, to my cleavage. The robe did what it could—I could feel the heat rising inside of me. He wanted me, I could see it in his eyes. But I had to resist him, I mean we had barely even spent a day.If I was going to make it through in one piece, I needed to get him off my mind. That was the problem precisely. He was Luca Pavilochenki—“Ciao Bella signora!”I looked around for the owner of the squeaky voice, but I couldn't find himThen I looked down. He was standing between us, looking at me like I was the most fascinating thing in the world He was missing a few teeth, probably six or seven years old. And then I remembered the chorus that morning. Could he be one of them?“Well hello”I said, wondering if he had been there the whole time. If he had watched me and Luca grow awkward. But wait, he didn't understand English.I heaved a sigh of relief as I patted him on the headHe smiled at me, his missing teeth making him all the more cuteThen h

Welcome to Italy! The air hostess’ words filtered through space Sharon's mind was far away. Her and Luca hadn't seen each other for hours. No texts, not calls, nothing. He seemed to respect her privacy a little too much She was scared, scared of opening up a wound that didn't properly heal in the first place. She was scared of letting him know about her tragic past, scared letting him see what she had been hiding Nobody knew, not even Claire So she pushed him away—And gosh, she didn't even mean to But like he said, they were strangers. They landed in a private jet terminal in Florence, and walked into the VIP Like strangers, who met by chance on the plane—Immediately they filed the necessary paperwork, they were both met by two tour guides. Their luggage was taken to their respective places of residence It was evening, they were both tired, and things weren't quite settled between them The night was cold, and even the warmth of Italy couldn't shield herSharon looked at h

Sharon's fork fell to the floorHer eyes went blank, and her face was frozen in expression “Sharon I—”“Leave”“What?”“I'm not comfortable— around you”At that moment, Luca realised he had stepped on uncharted territory. Sharon never spoke to him about her nightmares, never gave him an explanation for her post traumatic responsesHe always suspected something, but he never gave in to his curiosity. Never asked, never pried, never raised questions And now, he just ruined a genuine moment, hopefully the first of many to come—By stating that she had a traumatic childhood Luca slowly stood up, with his head bowed “Sharon”“Don't fucking call me that. You're a stranger to me, remember?”Sharon had never spoken to him like that before. Infact she hardly defied him. He usually had his way, somehow. But he was beginning to realise that he hadn't touched the tip of the iceberg And winning her trust, her heart—Was still an abstract thought. One moment he felt like he was making progres

“Hey”“Riann”“Huh?”“Do you usually fall asleep on strangers?”Sharon became aware of her surroundings, and yes, she was sleeping on him Still, she had no idea how she got into that position, since she had been sitting opposite him “I'm sorry”She said, standing up quickly. Like he was the plague“I don't mind, really”She went back to her initial sitting position “No thanks”“Are you hungry Bella?”“No”Sharon folded her arms around her waist, but she couldn't stifle the sound of her stomach growling Luca gave her a comical smile “Will you eat with me?”Sharon sighed. She knew where it was going. He would offer to feed her during the course of their meal, and hold her in a romantic position. And slowly, she would desire his touch, his affection And eventually, they would do it again, and again, and Sharon would slowly fall in love—“No, I don't dine with strangers”Luca pressed a small bell and two waiters walked in with trays of food“It's okay, I'll leave the room for you t

“We will now take off, I urge you to sit tight and make yourselves comfortable”The cheesy voice of the air hostess echoed through Sharon smiled slightly She sat on a plush white cushion, a table was set in front of her with various appetizersLuca was in another room, keeping his word to make things appear like they met on the tripIt was delusional, but cuteTheir first encounter was terrible, their second, even worseAnd now they were just supposed to forget everything, the doubt, the uncertainty, all of itIt was like—A fresh start A sort of do over. They never got to discover anything about each other before they were married, never courted, never had genuine moments Their marriage was like a death sentence, a cross they had to carry, a burden they were straddled with Maybe if they had met under normal circumstances, maybe if they weren't forced into a union, things would've been different For Sharon, it was going to be a journey of self discovery. She was twenty three yea

“You look beautiful”Sharon turned to see Luca standing behind her. He was wearing a plain black shirt, with black pants and loafers. His lips were curled slightly into a smile His eyelashes fanned his deep blue eyes, and his hair was messed up perfectly, adding to his sheer beauty His presence sent shivers through her, and when their eyes met, for a moment, just a moment, they shared something beautiful. It was a fragile feeling, still in it's foetal state. And Sharon wasn't willing to accept it for what it was Not yet—“Thank you”Her eyes slowly darted back to the mirror, and she continued to adjust the band on her hairHe walked closer, so that could hear his breathing behind her, and feel the vibrations in his chest as he spoke “Leave it”“What?”He looked at her from the mirror.“I like your hair free”His hands moved to her head, and slowly, he loosened the bun she was trying so hard to achieve. He used his fingers to straighten them out, and paused for a moment to admire
