Nyx's POV
THE STARWEAVER PACK. I stared at the six feet deep grave I had dug. I had spent hours digging it, but I didn't care. I was weak, but the thought of whom I was about to bury kept me strong. This was arguably the best I've felt ever since I was born. A smirk escaped my lips as I shifted my gaze to the dead body, lying still. I closed my eyes and let myself relish the images of how he died. The way several claws dug into his body until he was lifeless. The struggle and fight he put up to it was bliss to my battered soul. "Are you done digging, omega?" A voice asked, jerking me off my thoughts. The shovel I had used almost fell off my hands. Thankfully, it didn't, as that would have attracted more punishments for me. "Yes, Luna." I bowed immediately. Luna Cara was one of the people that made my life horrible. Being born by a traitor to the pack and also being birthed as a twain under the cursed moon was enough to have me killed. My mother, an omega, was killed. My twin sister was said to have died with her. Several times, I also wish I suffered the same fate. Luna Cara got closer to me. She patted me on the back. That was a sign that I had done well, but I felt rather nervous and fearful. "How about we throw you down there with Tristan?" She asked, sounding very amused. Fear gripped my whole being. I started shivering. Luna Cara was taking walks around me, enjoying every bit of my misery. "It would not be so evil to let you die with the traitor, Tristan." "Forgive me, Luna." I begged, falling on my knees. Tristan had sold valuable pack information to a rival pack. Harrison, the alpha of the pack, found out and had Tristan beaten to death by the pack. I took no part in it, but I enjoyed every part of it, because Tristan made my life worse than a living hell. "There's nothing to forgive." Luna Cara said, bending over to meet me halfway. She released a very wicked laugh and even clapped her hands. "You should really stop feeding off her fear." Alpha Harrison's thick voice shook me a little bit. He was always in support of his mate and if she truly wants me buried alive, it'd happen. "See now terrified she is." She said, standing up to hug the alpha. The rest of the pack were behind him. "Blame me not for enjoying it." They locked lips and made disgustingly loud sounds. "Well, the daughter of a traitor should also suffer the same fate as her mother." Alpha Harrison said. I cowered in fear, shivering intensely. They always make threats but I'd never get used to them. "Please, alpha." I begged. "Just so you know," Luna Cara started, resting her leg on my knees, "you are not a member of this pack. You're a fucking slave." "Yes, Luna." I fought the tears trying hard to escape my eyes. Luna Cara laughed in an evil manner. She was having a lot of fun. "Okay bae, that's enough." Alpha Harrison said, pulling his mate to his side. She kept giggling. "I'm not sure if I enjoyed killing Tristan." Luna Cara giggled, "I was thinking I could make peace with the tempest in me by killing this one." I had nothing to do with Tristan's murder. I only watched and imagined myself being the one in charge. It was exhilarating and scary at the same time. "We will get rid of her, but not yet." Alpha Harrison muttered. "I have other plans for her." Alpha Harrison pulled me to my feet by my hair. My head ached for a few seconds and my scalp burnt, but it was nothing I wasn't used to already. "Well then, let's get to the burial nonsense." Luna Cara spat, sounding disgusted. "Traitors don't deserve burials, or what do you think, Nyx?" "They don't, Luna." I responded. A drop of tears escaped my eyes. I could not wait for all these to be over with. It was getting unbearable already. "Good." She giggled again. We went on with the funeral. Anytime a member of the pack is killed by someone in the pack, there are ritual processions that must be observed to avert evil. As the funeral went on, more tears escaped my eyes but I hid them well. Anyone seeing me cry would mean more punishments for me. I could not get punished any longer. I had tried to kill myself over the years, but nothing ever worked. Neither poison nor knives. I always came out alive. I wish I had just died alongside my twain. I was far useless than any slave ever in every pack I had come across. I could not shift, neither could my healing abilities kick in. The only good thing I had , that had proven otherwise bad over time, was my weird inability to die. I might have already taken too much poison, that I had already become immune. The funeral was over in a jiffy and the rituals were done. The pack went back inside and I followed behind, hoping that no one would decide to torture me again. "Nyx!" Luna Cara called in a very prolonged manner. "She would be the death of me." I muttered to myself before rushing to her presence. "Luna?" I responded, bowing my head. "Get me a glass of water." She ordered. I ran into the kitchen and got her what she desired. I felt dizzy from the living room all the way into the kitchen. I could feel life and consciousness, slipping out of me. I just have to give her this cup and get far away from her before whatever wants to happen would happen. As I got closer to her, I could hear her shouting, but her words were unclear. I could see her lips moving and her veins straining, but I surprisingly couldn't heat anything. I had almost gotten to her when my consciousness gave up on me. I fell to the ground, with her glass of water still in my hands. The glass broke as I fell and the water spilled out. Rather than having people surround me, I felt a kick to my stomach. Even in my unconscious state, I knew I was done for.Nyx's POV We had arrived at the next pack, ready to investigate and uncover whatever clues we could find. The air was filled with the stench of death, a heavy, suffocating scent that clung to everything. It was eerily silent, as if the land itself was holding its breath. The atmosphere wasn’t just unsettling, it was wrong, deeply and unnaturally wrong. Kieran stood a few feet away, speaking with Nicholas. They seemed to be in a very heated discussion. From the little I caught, they were discussing different ways to handle an army of the dead, if that was what we would be facing. It was clear that they weren’t just throwing around ideas for fun. There was an understanding between them that whatever was coming was likely far worse than we could predict.I focused my attention on the bodies before me, trying to ignore the way my stomach twisted in discomfort. They were eerily similar to the ones in the Bultir pack. Their skin had turned dark, a mixture of black and deep purple. Their
Kieran's POV “Of course, we will.” I muttered, pulling her hair back as we cuddled to sleep.“What if whatever is happening to them happens to us, and we suddenly die?” Nyx asked, holding my shirt tightly. “I doubt we'll die anytime soon.” “Life is fickle.” She whispered, turning to look at me. She sat up, and so did I. “Today, the world is going pretty great and everything seems fine, and then tomorrow, Alphas and their packs are dying from vomiting water.” She sighed. “And the worst part of all this is that there's no stream close to the places we've just visited.”“Which means that they adhered strictly to the rules and were still on the wrong side of everything.” She muttered.“Nyx, don't overthink it,” I said sharply. “Yes, the situation right now is pretty horrible, and it seems like the world will end in no time, but I trust your pretty and pretty brilliant head to come up with a solution in no time.”“We will survive this like we always do, I promise,” I said, kissing her
Kieran's POV I was taken aback by the dead pack that was standing again. The look on their faces was just normal. There was nothing that could describe whatever they were feeling. It was just like a dead chicken, standing up to walk about, still dead.“How the fuck are they alive?” Nicholas muttered in shock.“Whatever is causing this death is way more powerful than we're giving it credit for,” I said, grabbing a piece of metal on the floor.“How do we even kill a bunch of strong dead people?” Gary asked.“Fuck, how do we kill dead people?” Jephta asked, looking panicked as they began walking towards us.I was glad that we were all on the same page about what needed to be done to them.“Well, make sure you take out their hearts,” I said. “The life-form of any creature ends when blood can no longer flow, and the key to making that happen is taking out their hearts.” “Well then, let's plug out some hearts, right?” Nyx sighed, and we met the already running mob of the dead pack on thei
Nyx's POV Early that morning, we drove out again, straight for the Bultir pack, the closest pack to us where the unfortunate incident had occurred. Kieran was very touchy throughout the ride, and I kept giggling. It was easier since we were the only ones in the car. The driver was very good at minding his business. Kieran and I never really had any alone time after the call the previous night. He was on a call with other Alphas for a great deal of time, and everytime I check up on him, he's always genuinely trying to escape, but the Alphas just wouldn't let him be. I understand where they're coming from though. Speaking with Kieran is a blessed thing to do. Kieran set his eyes on me, and he gently kissed me. I giggled again, holding his face as his lips melted into mine. His hand ran through my body, making me gasp gently. I kissed him back, holding the nape of his neck. “I was thinking about you all through last night.” Kieran whispered into my ears, and I became an ocean down th
Nyx's POV We headed straight back to the Windwalker pack house, our hearts lighter than they had been in a long time. We won. The battle had been brutal, and at times, it felt like we wouldn’t make it, but in the end, we stood victorious. The weight that had been pressing down on us since this all began finally felt a little lighter. Kieran, though badly hurt from his fight against Bridge, chose to let his wounds heal at a slower rate. It was surprising at first, considering how quickly we usually recovered, but I understood why he did it. He wanted to feel every ache, every bruise, it was his way of reminding himself of the fight, of everything we had just survived. And apparently, we could all do the same. I first thought it was a problem until he showed me how. Despite the injuries, the mood among us was different. Lighter. There was joy in the air, a relief that we had finally overcome one of the biggest challenges thrown our way. The battle had taken so much from us, but it h
Kieran's POV The fight was definitely going to be tough, but I was going to approach it with tougher measures. All of a sudden, Bridge kicked the table up, and then sent it at me. I hit it with my fist, and it broke immediately. The battle began, and the room became a battlefield. Bridge’s pack came at us, moving swiftly and brutally. They were unusually fast, unlike the previous night where we easily kicked and beat their asses. I barely had time to react before a large wolf swung a heavy fist toward my head. I ducked, spinning on my heel, and drove my elbow into his ribs. He grunted, stumbling back, but I had no time to finish him off, another enemy was already coming. To my left, Nicholas was locked in a deadly clash with two warriors, flashing his blades at them. Nyx was fending off two close to her, moving in a very fast manner. Blue had taken on a massive opponent, dodging and weaving like a shadow. Gary fought with sheer brute strength, smashing through enemies with terrif
