LOGINChapter Nine
Monday again? Emily stretched her body and reluctantly stood up from the bed. She found her way to the shower. Pouring water on her body feels like therapy to her at this moment. If there is anything she needs to do now more than ever, she is to forget that she has a hot boss who made her extremely uncomfortable and unable to comprehend herself. Emily was stuck meddling between her job and her awkward moment with her boss. Her emotions ran wide as a huge smile blossomed and lightened up her face. She prided herself on always being on her toes in order to do her work diligently. She checked her phone to be sure she wasn't behind time. She still had a few hours left. Her eyes were swollen and puffy. She slept late last night but woke up early in the morning despite the long night. She proceeded downstairs to get herself a cup of juice. “You are up already, when you didn't even have a proper sleep last night, you are overworking yourself Emily, I think you need a break it's been your eight month since you started working with Glams enterprises, you should talk to your boss, I am kinda certain he will grant you a proper leave”. Rosie glanced at her, she noticed and ignored it. “Rosie, I don't think you will understand since you handle the affair of your business yourself, look at you girl, you are boss of yourself, my case is different, I don't want to get replaced like the other lady who was working with Liam, you of all people should know how difficult it was for me getting this job, I have to maintain my position by all cause”. She exhaled sharply, her tone a blend of concern. “You seem desperate, you should be careful, you shouldn't allow yourself to feel the need to prove too much, and for the record you are doing well, I know in my heart of heart that if you lose this job you will always have something to do with your life”. She responded. “I hope your fear of losing your job is not going to cripple you from moving further in other areas of life”. She exhaled. “You don't seem to understand. I have to keep proving myself to Liam, I want him to know that I am a valuable asset in his company and make him know that he made the right choice eight months ago of hiring me,” she gasped in shock. “ It's been eight months already, how time flies, indeed time waits for no one”. Emily said, dropping the empty glass cup of juice on the table. “I better hurry up. Liam wouldn't be happy if I turned out late, I don't want it to look like because of yesterday's incident, I am beginning to be nonchalant about my work”. She said and walked in the direction of her room. She entered and began to dress in front of the rectangular mirror hung at the wall . She caught her reflection in the mirror and stared at the face that looked back at her in self-pity. “I will be home today, I have no urgent work so far, I want to give in enough time to prepare for my next client order” Rosie remarked. She admired Rosie, pulling it all together with family and business. She had never second-guessed her before. She gripped her elbow and squeezed. A simple gesture any friend would use in trying to get attention. Rosie averted her gaze towards her. “I am listening to Em."She responded, nodding occasionally to what she was saying. “Talking about that, my boss is hosting an event, and he has been looking for an event planner”. Rosie smiled, grinning from ear to ear. Her blue eyes froze. She stared at her while blushing like puppies. Emily fixed her gaze at her. “Trust me to recommend you to him any time”. She declared her expression was exciting. A knot formed in her stomach as Rosie flashed a quick smile. “I would really appreciate it dear, the money I had made hadn't rolled in by me sitting back. I had to work my ass off, throwing myself into work”. Rosie said. Emily turned and fixed her gaze on Rosie. “So the next time you think about talking down to me based on my work ethics, remember that you are a boss of your own, you have to think twice”. She blew a frustrated breath and let out a contented sigh. Rosie inhaled deeply. Why was Emily taking it personal? Was she only concerned? She furrowed her brows in concentration on the orders that were coming in from her phone. “I would love it if I were allowed to be an adult for once. I want to make my own decisions and not to be treated like a kid”.She swallowed hard. “I have always supported you in whatever you planned to do, I make sure you are safe, and that doesn't count to you”. Rosie remarked. Why has Rosie been difficult lately? Has Rosie forgotten so soon how much she had prayed to get here? Emily wasn't ready to let anyone get in the way, not even Rosie. Rosie let out an audible sigh, engulfed with worries for Emily. Emily paid deaf ears as she prepared to leave for work, taking in the sweep of her hair in a bun. She slipped into a loose black shirt and paired it with a matching red high-waisted skirt. A pair of heels completed the look showcased just how long those legs can be. It was comfortable and easy to move in. She hates it when they fight. But Rosie has been a tough nut to crack. She wasn't going to get in her way, not this time. She breathed deeply. The only thing that mattered to her was this job, and she wasn't going to back down. The burn in her chest was still crippling. Her emotions welled up inside of her. Rosie stared at her for a while. “ You better hurry up then”. She said as she pulled out of her room. “I will”. She said, running off for work. What her friend said bothered her. But she couldn’t afford such distraction, not at the expense of her job.Chapter TwentyLiam is a JerkEmily returned home, knocked on the door, and Rosie hurried to open it. Emily pushed the door and entered the room, slamming it behind her.She collapsed onto the couch, dropping her bag to her right with a quick gesture. Her palms were soaked with sweat.Rosie stared at her; a wave of panic washed over her when their eyes met. She set the book she had been reading on her lap.“How was the party? I hope you had fun? You don’t look relaxed. Are you okay, Emily?” Rosie asked, firing several questions at once.Emily felt her heart pounding in her chest. “I wish I could be, but I drank too much. My God, it’s such a disaster. I still can’t believe this is happening to me. What did I do wrong?” Her body began to tremble.“Breathe deeply. Whatever happens, we’ll get through this together. What happened?”Her emotions exploded at that moment.“How did I end up in this mess?” she shouted as Rosie approached and grabbed her arms.“Tell me something, what’s the prob
Chapter NineteenI Can’t Believe I’m PregnantEmily arrived just in time for the celebration. It was a reception for the teams from Glam and Graham, with both CEOs present: Liam and Mr. Rodrick. Emily smiled, filled with a sense of accomplishment, as she entered gracefully, her charm catching everyone’s attention.“Congratulations, Emily,” Mr. Rodrick said, approaching to acknowledge her work.“If only you weren’t employed by your boss, who happens to be my friend, I would have been delighted to consider you for my own company. It’s been a pleasure working with your company to make this possible. I’m truly thrilled,” he added.“Thank you, sir. It was a team effort; we succeeded together,” Emily replied.“I see your humility is as admirable as your competence,” he added, shaking her hand with such firmness that she wavered slightly. She tried to pull her hand back, but he seemed insistent.“All is well. We both rose to the occasion for this project, and the results speak for themselves
Chapter EighteenSuccessEmily opened her phone and saw a notification from the Skype news station. It was everywhere:“Coco Pops has reached the top spot as the best-selling cereal on the consumer market, while families enjoy a nutritious breakfast every morning,” announced the journalist.Tears of joy streamed down her cheeks. She screamed from her room and ran through the house looking for Rosie. She finally found her in the kitchen, baking as usual, her hands covered in flour.“What’s going on?” Rosie asked, noticing the excitement written all over Emily’s face.“You won’t believe what just happened! The project I told you about the last time, the one that was weighing so heavily on me… it’s finally launched on the market, and it’s a huge success,” Emily said, overflowing with happiness.“Rosie, I can’t believe my ears. It worked, and it comes with a raise and a bonus from my boss and his partner. This will give us more money to pay our bills,” Emily added, beaming.“I’m so happy
Chapter SeventeenThe New ProjectThe next morning, Emily opened the folder Alice had brought to the office.“I have work to do. I can’t believe I’m here worrying about the past,” she muttered to herself.Although the work was challenging, responding to Graham’s proposal was the most important thing for her, and she couldn’t bear the thought of losing her job.Emily’s phone rang, and she glanced at the caller before answering. It was Liam. She sighed deeply.“What does he want this time?”— “Good morning, Miss.”— “Emily, come down to my office. I have something important to discuss with you—it’s urgent.”— “Alright, sir. I’m on my way,” she replied, giving the document one last glance before heading out.— “I want to finalize the discussion regarding our upcoming projects. I have an important meeting with a client next week, and I think you would be perfect to lead this project.”— “Your dedication and attention to detail have not gone unnoticed.”— “Thank you, sir. I’ll give it my b
Chapter SixteenProfessionalismThe next day, Emily entered the building and headed straight for Liam’s office to bring him his usual coffee and present the day’s schedule. Once that was done, she quietly slipped away. She wasn’t ready to face him yet. She froze as she heard his voice behind her.“What happened last night meant nothing,” he said, looking her squarely in the eyes as she turned her gaze to a corner of the room.“My God, why does he keep staring at me like that?” she whispered. “These eyes will be my downfall.”“As long as you continue to do your job well here at Glam’s Enterprises, I am willing to work with you. What happened last night is entirely your fault: you couldn’t control your desire for your boss. Do you always get carried away this easily with everyone you meet?” he said coldly.“I expect professionalism at all times. It must never interfere with work. You need to put everything behind you and focus on the well-being, growth, and development of Glam’s Enterpr
Chapter FifteenMemoriesThe memory made her shiver—not from shame, but from the pleasure he had given her.My God, it had felt so good. She couldn’t deny it.But that morning? It felt as if it hadn’t meant anything to him.Emily paced her room, wrapped in a silk robe, the phone still clutched in her hand. She glanced in the mirror: her skin still bore faint traces of him. A bruise on her collarbone. Red marks on her thighs. Her face was a mixture of regret, confusion, and… desire.“Can someone explain why I’m lying naked in a hotel with my boss?” she asked, to no one in particular. The room remained still. Silence prevailed. Every word she spoke echoed back at her.“Oh my God… this can’t be what I think, right?” she gasped, shocked.Tears streamed down her face, her heart shattering into a million tiny pieces. He stepped out of the bathroom. He didn’t give her a glance, grabbed his clothes, and began getting ready.“You should hurry and get dressed. Checkout is at noon, and I’m not r
