Two weeks had gone by and I had only come out of my room for softball, food and to use the bathroom. Every time I thought about Keegan it hurt. Mom says this is depression. I’d love for it to go away that’s for sure.

Keegan leaves for college today. They were having a send off for him at his mom’s house. Baylen said I should come, but I hadn’t spoken to Keegan or seen him in two weeks. It just didn’t feel right. I had things to do around the house after softball anyways.

At practice I knew I wasn’t myself. I couldn’t pitch a strike to save my life and I couldn’t hit the ball. Coach said she understood where my head was at after we spoke and she sent me home an hour early. Usually I would be sad about something like that, but I truly just wanted to go home and be alone.

“Brees, are you ok?” Jagger asked as I scrambled to pack my bag.

I sat stone-faced for a second and then felt tears start to well up in my eyes. I shook my head as I stuffed my helmet into my bag.

“He is leaving and he hasn’t even come to see me once. I’m just so broken,” I said, throwing my bag over my shoulder.

I squeezed her hand and gave a quick smile before heading to my car. I couldn’t stand to be around anyone right now. My whole body ached.

When I got home, I left my bag inside of the car. I felt too weak to even bring it inside. It was all hitting me that Keegan was leaving for school today and that would be it. He hadn’t sent a message through Baylen, hadn’t sent one on my socials or even stopped by. It was over. Everything I had waited for, for so long. It was over. I yearned to taste his kiss and feel his arms wrap me in warmth. I almost forgot what it felt like to be loved by him. I laid on the sofa for over an hour. As I was losing my mind laying on the couch with the shades drawn, I heard the doorbell ring. Who in the world could be here? Everyone that I know is at Keegan’s going away party. I reluctantly got off of the couch to see who it was. To my surprise it was Casey and Jagger. They had bags full of snacks and two boxes of tissue.

“Hey James. We are here for you my girl. Jagger called me after practice, so I decided to come here instead of to Keegan’s party. Cause fuck him, right?” Casey said.

“Oh my gosh guys. This is so kind of you. I probably look a mess and I didn’t even shower after practice,” I said, smelling my armpit.

“It’s ok James. We fully expect you to smell like a foot and look like hell for the next two months,” Casey teased.

“I’m glad we can be here for you. I know it’s a major shift but you aren’t alone,” Jagger said, handing me a box of tissues.

“I just keep replaying what happened over and over in my mind, trying to figure out what went wrong exactly. Our moms were the ones he had an issue with. But he is taking it out on me. He completely shut me out,” I said, shaking my head in disbelief.

“Don't worry about him. You didn’t do anything besides love him,” Casey quipped. “So we brought games! And we got all of your favorite snacks. Let’s take your mind off of him at least for now,” Casey said, pulling out The Game Of Life.

“Perfect. Beating you guys in games will surely make me feel better,” I said, trying my hardest to make a joke.

It did lighten my heart while we played games and laughed. Jagger sang some songs and danced around to try to cheer me up. Her blonde hair was pulled back by a headband and her curls fell down to her waist. Her large bangle bracelets clanked loudly as she pranced around the living room. Watching her move her hips so rhythmically mesmerized me.

“I’ve gotta head to the little girls room. Excuse me a moment,” Casey said, hopping to her feet.

She disappeared around the corner. Jagger proceeded to her turn on the game. She rolled the dice, but did not like the numbers so she attempted to roll again. I grabbed at her hand to stop her and she playfully pulled away. I sat up to get the dice away but she put them behind her back. I tried to grab them and in that moment I ended up on her lap as well fell to the floor.

Our laughing started to slow as we realized we were practically laying on top of one another. My hair fell into her face. She pushed it back with her hand. At this moment it didn’t feel like we were friends. There was a clear tension between the two of us and neither of us had acted on it yet. Her hands slowly went up my back as she helped me back up. Still sitting way too close, I could feel her breath on my face. Her eyes went to my lips. I wanted her to kiss me, but how did I let her know? I cupped her face with one hand and scooted closer. She smiled seductively and licked her lips as if to prepare them for me.

“Brees… I have been wanting to tell you something for a while,” she said.

A loud scream came from the bathroom area. We pulled apart quickly and went to check on Casey.

The morning came in brutally. I rolled over begrudgingly and stopped my alarm. My head was hurting and my mind was racing. I had stayed up all night thinking about Keegan. His game was televised last night and I mindlessly watched. Seeing him actually enter the game in the 4th quarter was breathtaking. Keegan was a freshman so he didn’t get a lot of playing time. But on this day he did. I held my breath every time he was near the ball. Recalling the time from Homecoming when he had been knocked on conscious. My heart went back to that time. When he had seen me in my dress. The way his eyes had went over my body and face. Soaking in every inch. The way he gulped when I came closer. That made me smile. No Brees. Stop it. You aren’t his anymore. Today, I was going to the petting zoo with my softball team. They were doing team bonding. There were mazes, games, food and more at the petting zoo. She thought about the fun she would have with Harper and Quinn. She

Meanwhile, at LSU, Keegan sat on the edge of his dorm bed staring at his phone. Brees was still blocked from nothing on his end. She had blocked him. He had tried once. He’d stared at the message he’d typed for nearly twenty minutes before finally deleting it. I miss you. Too simple. I’m sorry. Not enough. I didn’t mean it. A lie. Because he had meant what he’d said in that moment. He had been scared. Scared of their families. Scared of what happened next. Scared of how serious everything had become. But he’d never been scared of Brees. That was the part he couldn’t explain. He could face thousands of people in a stadium. He could handle the pressure of LSU. He could handle everything his future demanded from him. But the thought of admitting how much he loved his best friend’s little sister terrified him. And now he’d lost her. He wanted to drive home and scoop her up in his arms and let her know that his love for her had not changed and that they needed to be

Brees thought blocking Keegan would make it easier. It didn’t.It just made everything quieter. His name no longer appeared on her phone. No late-night texts. No random pictures from his day.No stupid videos he knew would make her laugh when she was trying not to.No You awake? at midnight.Nothing.And somehow, nothing hurt worse than everything. She had stared at his contact for almost ten minutes before finally pressing Block Contact. Her thumb had hovered over the button.Once.Twice.Three times. Then she had done it.Because she couldn’t keep being the girl who waited for Keegan to decide what they were.Especially after what happened in front of their mothers. After her mom found out they’d been sleeping together, Keegan had promised her.“It won’t happen again.”Brees had wanted him to promise they would be safe. Not that it would never happen again. She had wanted that promise to mean he was choosing her.Instead, when their mothers asked what was happening between them, Kee

“Wow, okay. Yeah, we are focusing on our sports and I’m getting more serious about Jagger since she is moving here next semester,” I said. His head whipped around so quickly. He looked confused. After our moms excused themselves, he moved closer to me on the couch. “Brees, what did you mean about you and Jagger?” he asked. “Well you said we weren’t together, so I assumed that meant what you said this morning about being in love with me was complete bull crap. What was that Kee?” I asked. At this point I was holding tears inside so hard that I thought my heart might explode. He grabbed my hand and didn’t let me pull away. “I felt like that was the right thing to say for now. Your mom seemed upset that we have been having sex. I didn’t want to give her anything else to worry about. I’m really sorry I said that. You know I absolutely love you with all my heart Squirt,” he said, bumping my chin. I shook my head. “No Keegan, I don’t know that. You have had a weird way of

I looked at her with my mouth agape. Was she seriously having this conversation with Keegan in the next room? RAP! RAP! A knock on the door saved the day. Keegan poked his head inside and Ms. Kyren was right behind him. “You guys all good in here?” he asked. I nodded and tried to push him out of the room, but my mom made him sit down on the couch instead. “Join us for a moment you two. I was just discussing the protocol of safe sex with Brees,” my mom blurted. How embarrassing. She really didn’t need to do this right here just because Casey slipped up. Keegan fidgeted a bit and looked at his mom for reassurance. You could see how uncomfortable he was. “Oh they are safe Missy. I told Keegan they needed protection every time they were together and he promised me that they would,” Ms. Kyren said. My mom’s face turned a deep shade of red. I don’t think she was ready to hear that I had already been sleeping with Keegan. She turned to me specifically. Her eyes narrowing in on mi

We made our way to my mom’s house. When we arrived I saw Casey’s car in the driveway. I was happy that she came. I had invited her, but she had been missing in action all day. She got out of her car when she saw me and she ran to me. It looked like she had been crying. I reached out and hugged her tightly. “What’s wrong my Casey girl? Did Cyman do something?” I asked. She nodded her head aggressively. Keegan looked at me and smiled and excused himself after giving Casey a warm hug. He went into the house so that we could talk. “So remember during the back to school party you saw Cyman and I… well we were sleeping together up until Thanksgiving Break,” Casey said wiping tears on her jean jacket. “Okay. I knew this information Case. What’s the deal?” I badgered. I will admit, I was a little perplexed that she was even bringing up his name when she knows I can’t stand him after how he treated her. “James… I’m pregnant,” Casey sputtered out. I almost dropped my phone. Did she ju
