Philia's pov

It was as though the ground beneath my feet had been uprooted and the fiber of the reality I had known for the past 5 years ripping into shreds.

"But that's not what he told me..."I saiid, "... He says that our daughter is still alive living with her distant uncle,"

I hated the look of pity the alpha before me gave me because it so easily pulled at the seams of the lie that I was trying to weave into leaving me naked to the bitter truth. "Do you... Do you even have evidence of all these things you're seeing?"

"I do, I have the files I can have them sent to you discreetly."

The more spoke the more it felt like somebody was cheering my chest apart, tears burns at the corner of my eyes.

As pathetic as it might sound, I had hoped that I was the delusional one that somewhere out there my daughter was breathing alive and taken care of, that if I truly dedicated myself to the pack one day you would take pity on me and finally tell me where my daughter was.

I buried my face in my palm, soft whimpering building up into tears that shook my whole being. Before I knew it, this man—who was more of a stranger than not—held me in my most vulnerable moment as I unraveled.

Then, in the wake of that dredging sadness, rage began to build. I shot up to my feet, wanting to march back into the party, but his arms—stronger than I expected—held me in place.

"What do you think you're doing?" he asked, not with a scolding tone, but rather concern, his thick brows furrowing.

"What does it look like I'm doing?" I said. "I'm going to go in there, and I'm going to make every single one of them regret what they've done to my daughter! I will—"

"You will," he interrupted me, "be thrown into the dungeon. What you will be doing is handing him a perfect excuse to get rid of you. After everything you've done for the past five years, that is what you will be doing."

Maybe because he wouldn't let me pour my anger onto those who really deserved it, I found my rage swirling over to him. I turned, my chest meeting his.

"And you? What part do you play in all of this? Is it guilt? Because it's been five long years, and you just decided to remember?"

A flash of shame passed through his eyes. "I wasn't sure about what happened that night, but recently it came back to mind and I couldn't shake it off anymore. I knew there was some foul play there."

I curled my lips

"and you expect me to believe that? "

Suddenly I was pressed closer to him and my anger was distracted briefly by the firmness of his chest. He didn't seem to notice or care about my reaction and continue to speak

"I don't expect you to believe since especially since you haven't seen the evidence yet, but I'm asking you to be smart about this you can go in there right now pour out all your anger but they're going to do the same thing to you that they have been doing for the past 5 years frame you as the unstable one the one who can't be trusted you'll be locked away forever and your daughter will never get Justice."

his words settled in my heart like rocks at the bottom of a lake it was true even if I did not trust him one shred because of obviously I just met him in the end was the only one that has told me the truth or these years that I have spent blaming myself wondering what I could have done differently so save Ellie and he knew he had a hand in it and he knew yet he let me blame myself he allowed others to blame me too ....

Now it's all made sense why he did not want me to bury her I would have seen it all her organs missing and there was no way he was talking around that, the longer I spent in this hands the more away I became of the contact between our bodies my legs will not brushing against his between his thighs, my chest meeting his torso and I realized this wasn't appropriate.

"Could you release me?"I said squirming around in his hold

No you responded shaking his head you're still planning to go in there and cause chaos aren't you?

I'm not but sir... I stumbled over my words

I felt strange, I was angry and upset and yet my body still had the foolish urge to react to his. I must be out of my mind and it might just be my imagination but when I looked up into his eyes they seem to darken briefly I'm sure I just imagine that

Fine I'm not going in there I said relaxing my body pretending like the weight of the world had not just dropped on it but if you don't want me to across them now then what do I say silent and twirl my thumbs forever they must pay

They will he reassured me with full confidence he guided me back to the bench for about the 3rd or 4th tune tonight I don't know who is really counting?

"There is a way you can get your revenge it won't be immediate but I assure you you will be satisfied." there was a dangerous glint in his eyes when he spoke and I began to wonder what kind of man I was about to make a deal with, whatever grudges he had against this pack or Rowan I had no idea how far they went

But what I did know was the cold in my little ones fingers does she clutched to mine and waited for him in the hospital all for him to never arrive because he was too busy with his mistress and their child and suddenly no regrets could be beyond that

"Promise me one thing" I said to him that I will get revenge for my daughter no matter what else happens.

"I promise-"

I stopped him there placing my finger on his lips that's not enough then what else do you need he said curiosity sweeping across his features, I grit my teeth with determination, held on to the collar of his dress shirt pulling him down enough as I lifted myself up and my canines sharpened making contact with his throat.

Rowan’s POVGetting evenThis is strange.Something was wrong and I could feel it down to my bones. Philia should have come to me by now; that icy, immovable exterior she wore on the surface should have cracked again, with her running to me for an explanation. But the only thing she had done was leave the occasion early. No reaction, no explosion—just nothing. And it grated on me inside. Why was she so lukewarm about everything?A shiver brushed through my chest, following Veil’s fingers. I looked down at her, a smile finding its way across my face before I realized it. It was bittersweet, but it was there, because every time I look at her, I see Elena. It’s like she’s right here with me—still in my arms—with that soft oval face, flushed cheeks, and lithe body. But she called me too cold to caress her."Rowan, there seems to be a lot on your mind. Why don’t you let me distract you?"It was morning, and we had found ourselves in the shower. She had been amazing since last night, and I

Zade’s POVShe was prettier than I expected.A shallow first thought, but one that could be excused. Her black, wavy hair fell past her shoulders and her dress, though simple, accentuated her figure. My second thought was that she looked like she would rather be anywhere else but here. Understandable for obvious reasons, but she kept herself isolated from everyone else. Her only company were the glasses that she swiped off of the waiters' trays. If I approached her then, it would be too obvious. But everyone else walked past her like she was furniture; in contrast, Veil the concubine had people fluttering around her.I saw my chance and I quite literally grabbed it as Rowan began a speech that called everyone’s attention. I was taking her outside to the garden when I heard it:"It is my utmost joy to tell you all that I have chosen an heir, and that is no one else than my son, Bramwell."I gritted my teeth against each other. I already knew this man was a fool, but how could he? Annou

Philia's pov "Mommy, Will daddy come see me before I die?," After all these my daughter's tiny desperate voice stills ghosts across my ears and my lips still tasted bitter with the lies that flowed through. "You won't die my little moon,"I wept, "...your Daddy will be here soon, he promised," the warmth was already draining from her small fingers as I clutched them like a lifeline, the beeps of the machines attached to her was the only thing that cut through the silence. Most days it feels like I never walked out of that ward, my mind had reconciled with the truth. But my heart refused to. I swiped off a glass from the waiter's tray as he strolled by me at the shadowy corner of the foyer, downing the rich amber liquid in seconds. Murmurs spilled from the guests, their judgmental stares crowd all over my skin like cockroaches, I ignored them all after all I was used to the stares. After my daughter passed away, her life core dimmed down to darkness. I had rushed to the hospital

Philia's pov "Tonight is our daughter's death anniversary, will you finally let me see her?"My mate's body tensed, a groan escaped through the crack of his lips"Philia, we've spoken about this...", he laid his pen flat against the document he was signing, lifting his eyes to mine while his broad back pushed towards the cushions of his chair. "Ellie isn't there, don't you tire of repeating the same lie even after five years?"The ever present lump in my throat pushed against the sides, enlarging itself on my grief as I struggled to breath.Ellie had been born a lovely but fragile pup, from the moment I held her I'd sensed her flickering lifecore. Tests came back and confirmed it all; she'd live all of her life on medication and endless hospital trips.Rowan, my mate and Alpha of Shadowfang was inflamed. He accused me on sharing a bed with another."There is no way the moon goddess would curse me with a weakling as my first born!" he'd roared at me, pack members turned their backs on
