LOGINAria's POV
After my quick dip in the lake, I braided my long wet hair and then dressed in the pack kitchen uniform. I trudged toward the pack house warily. Everyone in the pack was preparing for the Mating Run, and I needed to be at the kitchen to help with the pack dinner before the festivities began. During the Blood Moon ceremony, wolves could supposedly find their mates. Nathan had been mistaken about my having to attend. Being wolfless, I am forbidden, so instead I work in the kitchen cooking and or cleaning for others. Warning goosebumps started on my arm as I neared the entrance to the pack house kitchen. “Oh my Goddess, look at what crawled out of the forest,” Chloe said as I turned around to see Ronan's fiancée standing there with her entourage of lady servants. She is going to be such a nasty Luna,” I thought as my eyes narrowed at her. Huffing roughly she shooed at me and growled, “I don't want your lice, go to work slave before I have you flogged on the post.” Not the dreaded post of shame, not that it would or could be worse for me, I thought as I eyed her incredulously. Chloe had already dismissed my presence and was heading toward the Alpha's home. Rolling my eyes I turned around and continued toward the already bustling kitchen. The head of the kitchen staff saw me and pointed to the sink, which was full of dirty dishes. “You do what you always do, Aria,” she growled. Nodding briskly, I donned the rubber gloves and grabbed a scrubber before I tackled the mound of soiled cutlery and dinnerware. The dishes continued to pile throughout the afternoon and early evening. “Have them all completed before you head to your hovel of a home,” the head of staff growled. She and the other servants laughed as they tossed their aprons and got ready to head to the mate run. Glancing at the wall clock I cringed at seeing the time. An hour more and the blood moon would be at its highest apex in the night sky and the pack would begin the mating run. I returned to the sink and the remaining dishes. I tensed and furrowed my brow over the skin above my right breast becoming irritated but I ignored it while I rinsed the remaining dishes. At midnight I heard the announcement for the run. I winced suddenly, dropping the towel I held at the scorching of my skin. My entire body felt like lava was flowing through my veins. Flashes from my past came flooding back to me as I began tearing the clothes from my heated flesh. Rushing from the kitchen with my job far from finished I ran through the forest searching for relief from the inferno within me. The lake, the lake, pounded repeatedly in my mind as I turned and ran toward it. A cringed at seeing a crescent-and-flame mark on my skin above my right breast come alight and raced toward the lake to drown the unusual burning wolf sigil. A feminine voice in my head was telling me to calm myself as I dove into the murky water. Breaking the surface completely naked I panted. “My name is Ashina and I'm your wolf. I'm sorry for taking so long to speak with you but know that you're very special and you won't be complete until you are reborn, such a pain in the ass but a necessity for you to realize your true worth,” she stated firmly as I pinched the bridge of my nose with my dripping fingers. Suddenly, a big black wolf growled behind me near the water's edge. When it shifted into a human I balked. It was none other than Ronan and the bastard called me his Mate. He was also coming towards me as he stepped into the lake. I froze, uncertain what I should do…Princess Aella Durin's pov I woke to Katerina sitting on the edge of the mattress and furrowed my brow. “Where's Lark?” Startled, she stood quickly and wrung her hands. “Oh you have finally awakened, um Lark wants me to take you back to your room at the castle after you get dressed in that so that you can make your mother's acceptance party,” Katrina mumbled as she pointed down at a stunning black gown on the bed. Raising my brow, I asked her again about Lark's whereabouts, and she pursed her lips. “He went to inform his mom that he and I aren't interested in each other…and that you and he are now marked, mates.” “Oh,” I said as I rubbed his mark that was covering my neck and arm. “That is really lovely,” Katrina commented and I smiled. “Do all elves have the gift of teleportation?” Nodding slowly she told me that all elves regardless of status had gifts. “I will get changed and then you can transport me,” I mumbled, making her grin and nod. Slipping the gown o
Aria's pov Seeing my heartbroken daughter head off into the forest I narrowed my eyes at the haughty elf queen. “I feel that couples who love each other should take precedence over arranged marriage,” I asserted, and Elara instantly got offended. “Lark is the future throne holder, his queen must be top-notch and not a mongrel. Lark is reckless in his young age,” she snapped and I pinched my mouth and thanked Frost for excusing us then pulling me away from the uppity bitch. “Goddess what a piece of work. I feel bad for Lark knowing that it is his mother and can understand why he lived at Balder's,” I muttered out of earshot, making Frost raise his eyebrow. “I'm curious about where Aella ran off to. Not everyone knows that she's the daughter of their new Queen.” I glared at him and asked if she was in danger, making him close his eyes briefly. Two of my newest guards discovered a female experiencing her heat but were run off by a dark shadow and threatened. I grinned slightly an
Princess Aella Durin's pov Getting manhandled and slapped around by both men I growled sourly only to have my dress torn to expose that I hadn’t worn any undergarments. Hearing one of them unzip their pants I pleaded with the Goddess to send help. I was forced face down on top of a shorter boulder and felt the bastard's excitement poking against my inner thigh. Just as I was about to shift into my wolf I felt a whoosh of air then peace. I looked around and was alone. I tried to fix my dress so it covered my exposed chest, but I was failing miserably. A shift in the air happened and I blinked my damp eyes at seeing Lark standing there. I quickly grabbed his jacket and pulled him to me. I climbed up his frame, holding on to him for dear life then sobbed. “Don't marry that elf. We are mates,” I mumbled sullenly as he rubbed my back and returned the hug. “Were you injured? Why didn't you use your fire or ice,” he asked calmly. Shaking my head I growled, “I couldn'
Princess Aella Durin's pov Lark didn’t return to me and we are now all residing at Frost's amazing castle, along with a huge village entirely of werewolves and dark elves. Brownies were the castle's housekeepers and the small creatures were a delight. It had taken a couple of weeks to arrive, and once we did, my mother was greeted with much love. A large celebration is still being planned for her becoming Frost's Queen. I'm currently in my enormous suite with my brownie and elf staff who remind me of Lark and his parents. They are infatuated with me and my fae mark. I have grown closest to my personal helper, Briar, who is a mix of elf and brownie, and I am currently sitting with her. I've asked her about my scroll mark and she told me that it meant I was an ally of the forest fae and given their blessings and perhaps a bit of fae magic. “I can't believe that the dark elf prince is your mate. He disliked everyone and was especially arrogant to those who weren't of the fae l
Princess Aella Durin's pov Sitting with the witch sisters, I was sad to see my mom return empty-handed, but she explained that Landon would remain with Nathan to fulfill Jasper's request. My eyes widened at seeing Lark standing and blending in with the shadows. My heart tightened in my chest as I furrowed my brows at him. “Mister Skinner, how interesting to have you return to our motley group,” I asserted firmly. He looked alarmed and his eyes darted away from me as he scurried off leaving me pouting. “Why does he hate me when I believe that he is my mate?” I muttered sourly watching as he climbed up MY ladder and ducked into the cave I was using. “Looks like he followed his senses and went to your cave,” Wisdom snickered as I rolled my eyes determined to discover what he was up to. I stormed up my ladder and entered my cave to see Lark standing with his arms crossed in the deeper shadows. “Of course, this is where you are sleeping,” He muttered tiredly. “Hmm, I kno
Frost Ulfhedinn’s pov Following Aria's son's scent I traveled down the path. The water was to my calves as I ran down the narrow gulch. Scanning the rocky sides I searched for an easy escape from the path. Knowing that I could easily make the jump if needed I wasn't too concerned as I continued north. Thankfully, I stepped out of the rising waters and onto firmer ground several miles later. The runoff water collected in a huge lake, and I had lost the scent on my side. “It appears that I will be swimming to the other side,” I muttered sourly watching the water rushing from the gulch down into the lake. I eyed the area for a way across. Reaching the other side of the lake I sniffed around and caught the scent of the boy along with a fire and cooking meat. Hearing voices speaking about Aria and me I slowed my steps and listened in disbelief. “Your mother has forsaken your father's memory by getting involved with the Ice Frost King. She should have come to me. I am her
