Chapter 5. New Manager

Karina's feelings are mixed when she realizes that she is now pregnant with the presence of a little angel inside her body. Sometimes she feels nauseous and it makes it difficult for the busy working woman to concentrate. Since earlier, Karina has looked restless behind her desk and occasionally inhales the aroma therapy she purposely bought to reduce the persistent nausea.

"Karina, are you okay? You seem restless since this morning. Is something happening to you?" asked the secretary from the same division where Karina currently works.

Karina turned and gave a forced smile as she looked at the woman who had just asked her, "I'm fine. I think I skipped a meal yesterday, so my body feels weak like this and it's hard to concentrate, Sophia." Karina answered.

Sophia looked closely into Karina's brown eyes and nodded her head, "Want a snack? I have some snacks that you can eat while working."

Sophia brought out a box of snacks and placed it in front of Karina, inviting her to choose whatever she likes. Karina's eyes lit up as she saw the pile of snacks inside the box. Karina's hand reached out and she chose a chocolate biscuit snack.

"I'll have this." Karina said.

Sophia smiled happily, "If you want more, just call me. Don't hesitate to ask." Sophia replied.

Karina opened the package of chocolate biscuits in her hand and slowly ate them. The chocolate sensation on the biscuit relieved the nausea and restlessness in Karina's body.

"So you wanted to eat this all along, didn't you, dear?" Karina thought to herself as she rubbed her flat stomach.

Sophia, who was sitting right next to Karina, glanced at Karina rubbing her stomach, "Maybe her stomach feels uncomfortable, that's why she has been restless since earlier." Sophia murmured.

Karina intentionally hid her pregnancy from all the employees in the General Division where she worked. She didn't want anyone else to know about her pregnancy, and Karina even thought of giving birth quietly without her co-workers knowing.

Suddenly, a man entered the General Division room with confusion written on his face. The man looked around as if searching for something.

Feeling needed, Karina stood up from her seat and approached the man, "Excuse me, is there anything I can help you with?" Karina asked.

The man immediately turned to Karina and smiled at her, "I'm Hendrix. I'm the assistant manager from I.O Company who wants to move Mr. Viggo's belongings." Hendrix introduced himself.

Karina raised an eyebrow when she heard the unfamiliar name, "Mr. Viggo? I.O Company?" Karina repeated Hendrix's words.

"That's right, ma'am. Starting today, Mr. Viggo will be reassigned as the manager for the General Division at Deverell Apparel company," replied Hendrix.

Karina tapped her forehead as she heard Hendrix's explanation. She just remembered that the manager in the General Division where she worked had resigned due to marriage. After the position had been vacant for a long time, a man who also served as a manager in another company had finally been appointed to fill the position.

"Oh my, I'm sorry I forgot! Let me introduce myself. I'm Karina, I'm an assistant manager in the General Division." Karina introduced herself.

Hendrix felt very happy to meet Karina. Especially since Karina was a beautiful and friendly woman.

"In that case, can I start moving Mr. Viggo's belongings now, ma'am? Because it seems that Mr. Viggo is also on his way here." Hendrix asked.

"Of course you can. Please follow me, his workspace is located near my desk." Karina instructed and showed the way to the workspace that will be occupied by a man named Viggo.

Hendrix surveyed the room first and adjusted it to Viggo's taste. After he felt it was enough, Hendrix bid farewell to Karina.

"Ma'am, I excuse myself to transport all the goods and arrange this room according to Mr. Viggo's request. Don't worry because we won't disturb the work of the employees here," said Hendrix.

Initially, Karina felt hesitant, but Hendrix seemed to have to complete the task that was his responsibility.

"Okay. Please don't be too hasty and if you need help, just let me know." Karina requested.

Hendrix nodded his head and quickly left the room, while Karina returned to her desk.

Sophia, who was curious, immediately approached Karina and asked her, "Who was that man? Why did he look so suspicious?"

"That's Hendrix, the assistant manager from I.O Company. Today, their manager was transferred here and it seems like he was asked to move all the belongings and arrange his workspace," replied Karina while looking towards the door, where Hendrix was busy arranging the items he brought in.

Apparently, Hendrix was not working alone, there were several people from the moving service provider who were helping him. But Hendrix continued to supervise and pay attention to the layout of the room neatly.

"Our new manager has arrived? I thought it would take longer than expected. Especially since the position has been vacant for a long time," replied Sophia, while also observing Hendrix's movements as he was busy with his task.

"I also thought so. But it seems like the company needs someone to fill that position. They even took a manager from another company to work here. I don't know how much they offered until the manager agreed to move here," muttered Karina.

Sophia approached Karina and whispered to her, "Is the new manager a man or a woman?"

Karina thought for a moment while remembering the name mentioned by Hendrix, "If I'm not mistaken, its name is Viggo. it seems to be a man."

Sophia's eyes lit up when she heard this, "From his name alone, he sounds handsome. Hopefully, he is a young and gallant man, not an old man who is overly respectful and annoying."

Karina just laughed at Sophia's previous statement and continued her work, although she occasionally glanced at the General Division manager's room which was now being rearranged by Hendrix and the other team.

A white window curtain that was originally used to block the sunlight and separate the manager's room from the other employees area was replaced by Hendrix with a black one. Then, in one corner, a relatively large plant was placed.

"Wow, there's even a plant. It seems to be an expensive one," mumbled Sophia as she looked towards the plant she was referring to.

Karina turned her gaze towards the plant while typing on the keyboard at full speed.

"The room also became neat. Since it hasn't been occupied for a long time, some corners must have been dusty," said Karina.

After finishing moving the belongings of the new manager, Hendrix approached Karina and gave her his name card.

"Excuse me, Miss Karina. This is my name card. If you have any problems related to Mr. Viggo, maybe you can contact me. I have been working with him for the last 5 years, although actually until now I don't really know Mr. Viggo well," said Hendrix.

Sophia approached Hendrix, who looked older than her and seemed pressured by her boss named Viggo.

"Leave it to me. Hopefully, I can handle him," replied Karina as she received Hendrix's business card.

"Is Mr. Viggo still young?" asked Sophia suddenly.

Hendrix and Karina turned their heads towards Sophia.

"If I'm not mistaken, he's 34 years old. But he looks very young, so it's no wonder some people think he's only 30," answered Hendrix, then he whispered, "Even though he's a workaholic." Hendrix continued.

Just by hearing Hendrix's explanation, Karina could already imagine what the new manager in her division would be like.

Sophia asked, "Is he married already?" and received a sharp look from Karina.

However, Hendrix still answered her, "No, he is still single."

"Alright, Mr. Hendrix. Thank you for your hard work all this time. I will try to adjust to work under his pressure," replied Karina.

Hendrix nodded his head and finally said goodbye to Karina and Sophia. Now all employees in the General Division can only wait for the arrival of the new manager, a man who will lead the Deverell Apparel in the General Division.
