CHAPTER TWENTY: NO GOING BACKWARDS

What a bore, I thought as I stood on the balcony of some expensive ballroom the company had rented for a night of fun after the games. Everyone was so good, on their best behavior, talking very professionally. I hated it. No big clients seemed to have made an appearance, so it was mainly me and the people that I see every day, Monday through Friday. After a few hours of playing nice, I had excused myself from the table and went out for air, sneaking a bottle of beer out with me. Maybe I would have had more fun if Andre had stayed, but after spending the day with these assholes, he had better things to do. For the most part, the large balcony was empty. I shared the space with four other people. I stood at the railing, staring out over the city. This was another great view that I wouldn’t forget.
