Disorientation must have lasted a long time before I came partially to my senses; I was lying on the cool surface of the forest floor, with the coolness of the earth pressed against my skin. Everything felt alien, even my feelings; hence I considered that maybe my senses were heightened, and very faint, far-off sounds reached my ears: leaves rustled, leaves murmured. I pushed myself up and blinked in the light coming through the branches.

“Clark!” came Lucian's voice, filled with worry. My heart was in my throat, and I attempted to sit up, looking around. The others were scattered, and the extremely beautiful woman was nowhere in sight.

“Over here!” I croaked out. Just my control held as relief flooded in upon the arrival of Lucian, who knelt beside me.

“Thank the moon you are safe!” he said, shaking me and bursting to his feet. “We thought we lost you.”

“What happened?” My whirling head needed the rest to consider it. “Where is everyone?”

“I don’t know,” he said, glancing anxiously. “One minute we were ready to fight; the next, it was all dark. I suppose we were either ambushed or they used magic.”

Looking around made my heart sink. The trees were thick, dark, and ominous, pairs of branches danced independently as if possessed. “We have to find the others. They could be in danger.”

The sudden motion caught my eye. From the shadows emerged the beta and the two omegas, tense. “We’re here!” one of the omegas gasped, relief flooding through him at our sight.

“Heaven be praised!” I sighed. "What happened? Did you see where the girl went?"

The beta shook his head with concern. "No. After everything went dark, she vanished. We were all confused, but now we are safe."

"Okay," I said, my mind racing, "But we need to investigate whatever is going on. We can't be caught off guard if the Silver Fang Pack has a plan."

A pang of anxiety returned as we regrouped. The forest indeed felt wrong; the air that skimmed against my skin was heavy with raw energy, causing my neck hairs to stand on end. I turned to see Lucian—he, too, showed signs of sensing it.

"We move," he commanded. "Find a safe spot for a strategy. If the Silver Fang Pack knows about our presence, we will be at a disadvantage."

I nodded, inhaled deeply, and braced myself. "I agree. Stick together; eyes open. Fear has no place here."

Darkness enveloped us as we journeyed farther into the heart of the forest, and the path grew more treacherous. The trees were ever more twisted and gnarled, creating a tunnel-like maze that threatened to close in on us. I kept my wits about me for the sake of the mission, though it weighed heavier with each passing second.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, we rounded the corner to find the small clearing illuminated by subdued moonlight. It was the perfect opposite of the dark, tormented woods from which we were crawling through, and I felt a slight lifting of weight from my shoulders. "That does for now," I said, waving the group to a halt.

We stood in a tight circle, tensions mounting, glances passing from one anxious pair of eyes to another. "Alright, what do we know?" I asked, grasping at straws to regain at least some control over the scene.

Lucian was the first to speak, calm and reassuring. "That girl mentioned something terrible was being planned by the Silver Fang Pack. We need to find out what it is, and we should work to stop it."

"The witch! Why didn't we interrogate her some more?" The omegas were now complaining, filled with anger. "She might have told us something that would be useful!"

"Either being scared," my attempts at justification continued, "would not have helped in matters if she is right, and we have to be very wary about this. Acknowledging the danger but never letting it work in our favor would have been better."

"Agreed," replied Lucian with a nod. "We will cover the perimeter to see what information we can gather. If they're planning anything, we will be able to track it down."

“Well, it is settled then. Let's split up! Two will go on perimeter patrol, while two remain here as lookouts. We will regroup in an hour and share our observations,” I declared.

As plans were being made, the urge to get this moving surged in me. Somehow, this felt like a huge weight on my shoulders, and if I were to fall, it would all slip away. My goal was now solidly in mind; rescue Lucian's mother and discover the truth at any cost.

We split into the woods, darkness swirling around us. Blood pounded through my veins, sharpening each of my senses. The distant rustle of leaves and snap of twigs sent an icy chill through me in every direction; it marked danger.

As I plodded through the undergrowth, that strange yet incessant feeling once more arose in me that there was someone with us. I glanced over my shoulder but could hear nothing but the dry rustle of leaves interrupted by some distant chirps. Nonsensical as it might have seemed, I pressed forward in search of clarity.

What felt like an eternity passed until I finally came across a mere trickle that intercepted and reflected moonlight off its crystal-clear surface. I bent down, scooping up water into the palm of my hand, letting it cool down my burning throat. As I stood, something moved across the trickle to catch my eye.

Out of the darkness flowed a tall figure filled with presence. My heart pounded as I recognized the unmistakable outline of a wolf with luminous eyes. The girl I had glimpsed only moments earlier stood before me, her savage mane of dark hair fanned around her shoulders like a dark cape.

"Wait!" I shouted, slowly dragging myself to my feet. "I'm not going to hurt you. I just want to talk."

She stood hesitating, her fiery gaze boring into mine. "You should not be here," she hissed. "The Silver Fang pack is not what they seem. You have to leave while you can.”

  • RETURN OF THE LUNA: RECLAIMING HER BACK   Sarah's Memory

Sarah POVI sat in a dim light within my chamber, the candle flame flickering, casting shadows on the stone walls. The air crackled with that familiar energy, alive with the excitement of yesterday's events. I had been telling what happened to Beta Jax, my confidant and, if I’m honest, my lover. There was wonder and concern in his eyes as I prepared to plunge into the turmoil we both saw."What happened yesterday.” Jax asked. I leaned forward slightly. "I trailed our warriors into the enemy territory. The hunters were on Lorenzo's tracks, after he followed them."“Why did you leave so suddenly yesterday, I missed you.?” Jax interrupted, his brow furrowed. “You know how important this was for us! We could have been together, and I wanted to be there with you.”I hesitated at what I could see was Jax's annoyance starting to flare up. “I had to make a decision, Jax. I couldn't just jump in blindly. You know the situation was very serious. I had to think it through strategically. Besid

  • RETURN OF THE LUNA: RECLAIMING HER BACK   Determination

"Enough!" I shouted, raising my voice in defiance. "You may have convinced Lucian of your merit, but I know who you are. You are poison to this pack, and I will not stand idly by while you hurt anyone else.""Watch your tongue, Clark," she hissed, advancing on me. "You are playing with fire. I will not hesitate to remind everyone just who it is that holds sway here."Before I could respond, the brush of the door was thrown wide. I caught a glimpse of Lady Seraphina. She was thin, faint from her past and with pain as she stood in the doorway. "Sarah, please—" she started, but Sarah gave her a scornful glance."Stay out of this! You're lucky to be alive, and it's all thanks to her!" Sarah yelled at me, one hand pointed straight at my face. "But don't you think for a second that she's here for your benefit. She's playing a game, trying to worm her way back into Lucian's life."My heart pounded in rhythm to the accusation, but before I could defend myself, I turned back to Lady Seraphina.

  • RETURN OF THE LUNA: RECLAIMING HER BACK   The healing Brew

I was busy concocting a remedy while the atmosphere in the room was filled with anticipation. I worked with speed to mix the herbs that I had gathered with careful hands. My heart raced with the hope that this remedy could save Lady Seraphina. The air stirred with the scent of crushed leaves, and I concentrated hard on the task so as to create a brew most potent for this purpose.“Clark,” Lucian murmured under his breath, watching me closely. “Do you really think this will help her?”“It must,” I said, glancing towards his mother, pale and weak on the bed. “These herbs have a strong healing capacity. If we can reverse its action from the poison, she can recover.”Once mixed, I poured the dark liquid, which smelled strongly, into a little cup and walked back to Lady Seraphina. “Drink this,” I said softly, handing the cup out to her. “It will help.”With trembling hands, she took the cup from me and drank a little of the potion. Each swallow was agonizing for me as I hoped and prayed th

  • RETURN OF THE LUNA: RECLAIMING HER BACK   The healing herb

My preparation of the herbs I had gathered filled the room with a weighty silence. Dim light seeped through the win- dows, casting soft shadows that danced along the walls. Lucian's mother lay on the bed, breathing shallowly and laboriously. I felt, in my heart, the urgency of the moment, knowing I had to save her.In their squeezing, the crushed herbs sent their potent aroma nostrils wide open. The mixture had to be perfect; it was my only hope to counteract the poison that had found its way into her system. "Clark," Lucian said in a whisper as he watched me. "Do you really think that will help her?""It has to," I answered, casting a glance toward his mother, pale and weak lying there. "These herbs are quite strong in healing. If we can counteract the effects of the poison, she might recover."With the mixture prepared, I poured the dark, aromatic liquid into a small cup and went to Lucian's mother. "Drink this," I urged gently as I held it out to her, "It will help."Quaking finger

  • RETURN OF THE LUNA: RECLAIMING HER BACK   A call to action

The air in the forest was heavy with tense anticipation as we emerged from the shadows. Moonlight cloaked the world about us in an otherworldly glow. I could feel the adrenaline still rushing through me, each pulsating wave igniting my fierce desire to protect my son-from those awful one-on-one encounters with Sarah. But all of that was dismissed the moment we went into a clearing: the ominous weight lay upon my heart-mixed with fear and uncertainty over what lay ahead.Lucian stood by my side, a tortured, desperate urgency stamped outwardly upon his face. "Clark ," he stammered, his voice gaining strength, yet each word rife with emotion. "You must come back to the Palace.”I I turned toward him, my brow furrowing. "Back to the palace? After everything that has just happened? The thought of facing Sarah again makes me sick. You know I cannot do that. I can't stand the idea of her tormenting Lorenzo while I'm there." "Please," he said, stepping in even closer. "My mother's health is

  • RETURN OF THE LUNA: RECLAIMING HER BACK   Deep inside me

I dashed through the woods with the weight of the herbs steady in my grip and an urgency flowing through my veins. Lorenzo needed my help-a need to thwart further danger for him. But as I neared the village, a ghostly twist in my stomach told me that something was dangerously wrong.Just outside the healer's house, before entering, I transformed back into a human form with my heart weighed down by anxiousness. “Lorenzo!” I shouted, my voice cutting through the stillness. “I’m back!”I received only silence in response. Panic chewed me up from the inside. I ran to the door, kicked it open, and it revealed nothing but an empty room and a heavy silence that sent shivers down my back. The healer was long gone, and there were no signs of my child.“Where is everybody?” I muttered as the terror weighed down in my stomach. I wheeled around and dashed for the central square, with the same feeling of chaos brewing just beneath the surface. As I came closer, muffled sounds reached my ears: cea
