ENID’S POV.

The glass window of Mr. Lark’s suite and I must have been having a staring contest; my gaze hasn’t lost sight of the glass window in front of me for over an hour now, a wine glass in my hand, the soft breeze from the air conditioner lashing against my naked body, the busy night life of Raven’s Peak abuzz in the distance.

I couldn’t help but reminisce about the sex Lark and I had an hour ago. It was great, but not great enough to kill these frequent doubts in my head. We’ve become an item since we rebuilt the power plant, I’ve always felt a strong connection towards him, I didn’t know he felt the same about me.

“You’re up early!” He said, wrapping his arm around my torso.

“Yes, honey. I couldn’t sleep” I responded.

“Something on your mind, huh?” He asked.

“A million worries,” I answered. “But I worry too much sometimes,” I added, turning my attention to the bed.

“You should ease your mind, Enid. It won’t be long now, you’ll be the first female Alpha Raven’s Peak has ever

Pov: Ember. The elevator creaked softly as it climbed to the fifth floor of the old building just outside Raven’s Peak’s central district. Ember stood beside Lira, who clutched her son close against her chest. The boy had fallen asleep on the ride, his little arms wrapped tightly around her neck.Ember glanced at her and offered a small, warm smile. “She’ll love having you there,” she said gently. “Caelen too. You’ll have space to breathe.”Lira nodded, eyes red but dry. She hadn’t cried since the infirmary. Something about survival hardened things. But even so, her fingers kept brushing her son’s back like she needed to remind herself he was still there. The elevator chimed, and they stepped into a narrow hallway with faded wallpaper and framed photos nailed crookedly to the walls. The air smelled like old wood, herbs, and lavender. At the end of the hall, the door was already open.Caelen appeared first, laying still on the couch. Then Grandmother emerged, silver hair braided down

Pov: Cael and Aiden. Scene: Fernmere – Town Square, Just Before DawnFlames clawed at the sky, reflecting off shattered windows and blood-slick stone. Fernmere was chaos—smoke-choked and burning, its people scattered like leaves in a storm.Cael stood at the heart of it all.His coat was scorched. Blood dripped from a gash along his ribs, soaking through his shirt. But his stance was steady, his grip firm on the curved blade that had been passed down through his bloodline. Around him, bodies lay still—some of Aiden’s soldiers, some his own.Above him, the drop ship’s thrusters screamed as it hovered, casting everything in a furious white glow. Then the figure descended.Aiden.Clad in obsidian armor, eyes glowing faintly gold. No fear, no hesitation. Just cold purpose."You never had the stomach for this, Cael," Aiden said, stepping onto the scorched cobblestones."I had the heart you never did," Cael replied. They circled each other."You could’ve ruled Fernmere beside me,” Aiden sa

Pov: Cael. Scene: Fernmere – Cael’s First MoveThe storm had passed by morning, leaving damp leaves clinging to Fernmere’s high balconies. Cael stood by his office window, looking out at the training fields. Wolves sparred in pairs, but fewer than usual. The others were likely being siphoned into Aiden’s ranks, or waiting to see which side would come out stronger. He’d made his choice. His fingers tapped a quiet rhythm against the desk as he opened his old records vault. The documents weren’t damning on their own—supply orders, transfer manifests, field patrol notes. But cross-referenced with what Raven’s Peak already had, they might paint a clearer picture of Aiden’s troop movements and alliances. He scanned the first few pages and transferred them to a secure drive—one small enough to hide in the heel of a courier’s boot.“This is a start,” he muttered.Lira leaned in the doorway behind him, arms crossed.“You sure about this?”“No,” Cael said. “But if I wait until I’m sure, it’ll

Pov: Ember. Scene: Raven’s Peak – MorningThe kitchen in the Nightshade mansion was unusually quiet. No council aides, no scent of fresh bread or clinking mugs. Just Ember, barefoot in one of Asher’s old shirts, pouring black coffee she wouldn’t drink.Asher entered, hair still wet from his shower, t-shirt clinging to his chest.“You’re up early,” he said.Ember didn’t turn. “I felt something last night. Like a thread went slack.”He moved closer, taking the mug from her hands and setting it down. “You think it’s Cael?”“He was supposed to send a message. A quiet one. He’s not late.”Asher hesitated. “You trust him?”“I think he’s scared,” she said. “And scared people try to do the right thing when they know they’re running out of time.”Asher reached for her hand, squeezing it gently. “We’ll check the border logs. Pull satellite heat signatures. If someone stopped the message—we’ll find out.”Ember nodded but didn’t smile. “If Aiden’s that close, it means we’ve got cracks we can’t s

Pov: Asher. Raven’s Peak – East Garden, Late AfternoonThe sun had just started to dip, casting gold over the long rows of hedges and manicured paths behind the Nightshade estate. A rare moment of calm.Julian sat on a stone bench beneath a cypress tree, elbows on his knees, staring into the gravel. He hadn’t heard Asher approach—he didn’t have to. He felt the shift in energy before the footsteps even landed.“Figured I’d find you here,” Asher said, his voice low.Julian didn’t look up. “Just needed air.”Asher sat beside him without a word, eyes scanning the garden. After a long pause, he said, “Rowan’s sleeping okay?”Julian nodded. “He always does after a storm. Something about the white noise.”They fell quiet again. The only sound was the distant chirp of evening birds and the soft rustle of leaves.“I saw you with Cael’s envoy yesterday,” Asher said, tone casual but precise. “Looked tense.”“It was,” Julian replied. “They’re pulling out of the summit. Said their council’s been

Pov: Aiden. Scene: Underground Compound – Situation RoomAiden stood in front of a digital wall map that covered nearly half the concrete wall, updated satellite overlays feeding in through a hacked military drone. His breath fogged faintly in the cold, recycled air of the bunker.Mercer was at his side, watching the screen shift with interest. The President’s motorcade at Raven’s Peak. The headlines still looping on every major network:“Historic Visit Marks a New Chapter in Wolf-Human Relations.”“Nightshade Endorses Peace. Unity the Only Way Forward.”Aiden turned away from the screen.“Pathetic,” he muttered. “He shows up in a suit, steps over the graves we dug, and walks away with a campaign slogan.”Mercer said nothing. He knew better than to interrupt Aiden mid-burn.“We hit them with strength and they survived,” Aiden went on, pacing. “Now they’re consolidating through diplomacy. You know what that tells me?”Mercer finally spoke. “That brute force won’t break them?”“No. Tha
