A scream escaped her lips as she saw that, and the lights were immediately flicked on. Desmond was standing there at the kitchen island, staring at her with a raised brow.

“What were you so scared about?” he asked her, looking down at her fingers, which were being twisted in front of her.

“I'm sorry. I was scared.”

She let out a sigh of relief before looking around the kitchen, which looked beautiful. The kitchen island was in the middle of the room, a part of the wall glass from wall to ceiling, overlooking the forest behind the pack house.

Although it was still raining outside, the outside was brightly lit with lamps all around.

“If you're hungry, you can just make yourself something to eat.”

He was oddly calm from the rumors she had heard about him.

She stared right at him and didn't move from the spot she was, and this made him look in her direction again.

“I would kill you on the spot if I wanted to kill you without you knowing, but it'll only be useless to me,” he said. His tone laced with invisible ice that sent shivers down her spine.

“If there's anything you want to get that isn't here, just tell George about it, or he can take you out to get it.”

Odessa nodded before heading over to the storage to get out what she would eat.

She was shocked to see the whole place stocked up with different kinds of food.

From the look of things, he was the only one using this kitchen, and she wondered if he ate that much.

She turned to look at him where he was making himself some bread and other ingredients.

“He doesn't eat much from that little thing before him. Did he stock this all up for you?” Aria asked her.

“I'd rather not ask,” Odessa replied.

She suddenly screamed again, dropping the eggs with her as the thunder boomed outside.

And it was accompanied by lightning.

Desmond looked outside and then at Odessa, his face expressionless.

He walked over to the window, pressing a button. A dark shade covered it up.

“You'll still hear the thunder, but if you don't like the lightning, you can easily shut any of the blinds on the floor,” he said calmly.

“And you should get used to it. You'll be here for a long time.”

Odessa nodded nervously as she mumbled a thank you before cleaning the mess she had made.

By the time she rose from the floor, he was no longer in the kitchen.

And she wondered how he was able to leave without making a single sound.

“That guy is too mysterious for me,” Aria said.

And Odessa nodded in agreement.

What baffled her was the way he was able to make whatever he was preparing for himself in the dark, and why his eyes were red the other time instead of the blue colors she saw when they arrived here.

“Forget that, Odessa, and eat something,” Aria growled at her, making her roll her eyes before making a simple dish, and she ate it silently in the kitchen.

She was glad Desmond had shut the blinds, or she would have broken half of everything she had touched in the kitchen that night.

“What's wrong with you, dude? She almost saw us,” Des growled at Desmond, who was walking down to his office with his plate of sandwich in his hand.

“I'm not the one who just went on a rampage. And now I'm the one to blame.”

“Well played.”

Desmond frowned as he slammed his door shut.

“Can't you see how she was scared of me? She thought I was going to kill her.”

“You assumed that, and you only scared her by appearing in a dark room with red eyes. Who wouldn't be scared?” Des hissed, and Desmond wanted to say something.

But he decided against it before sitting at his desk, looking down at the paperwork in front of him.

“Why do I have to do this?” he asked, leaning back into his chair with his chin on his knuckles and a frown.

He never wanted this, not because he wasn't worth it, but because he just wanted to be isolated, a place where there's peace and quiet.

And he could be there for as long as he could live, but that wasn't possible.

A knock on his door distracted him, and after a minute, George stepped into the room with a stern look on his face.

“What is it this time, George?” Desmond asked him as he finally started to go through the reports he had submitted earlier.

“Alpha Devon wants the supply sent to him now that the lady is here,” George reported.

And the report made Desmond scoff.

“She's barely even been here for a whole day. How do I know she won't run from me a day after, so I'll be on the losing side?”

“Not that I care about that, but Devon is the last person I'll let run off with my resources,” Desmond replied.

“Tell him once the lady impresses me, I'll send it. Their fate is in her hands.”

“Yes, my Alpha.”

George bowed before walking out of the office.

He didn't know how Desmond wanted Odessa to impress him.

Because the man was unshakable, he might as well say this wasn't something that would happen anytime soon.

Odessa woke up with a ray of sunlight shining into the room.

She didn't expect this much sunshine early in the morning because of the heavy rain.

As she turned to the other bed in the room, she saw Desmond in bed.

The sheets covered half of his body while the other half was exposed, and he wasn't wearing anything on the upper part of his body, which immediately made her turn the other way.

She couldn't lie about the fact that she found him attractive.

From afar, she could see some scars on his chest, but it still didn't ruin his beauty.

From where she was, she could see him frowning in his sleep, turning uncomfortably.

Swinging her feet off the bed as gently as she could, she headed towards him.

And she could see he was sweating really hard.

She wondered what was going on with him.

She placed her hand on his forehead, and he was strangely cold.

“Do you know what might be wrong, Aria?” she asked Aria, who obviously didn't have the time in the first place.

“I don't know. I am no doctor,” Aria replied. “But—”

Before she could finish the sentence, Desmond suddenly grabbed her hand.

His eyes shot open.

At the same time, in a swift motion, she was trapped beneath him and pinned between him and the bed.

“What were you trying to do?” he asked her, his voice cold and dangerous at the same time.

“Are you trying to kill me?”

She felt like his words were daggers piercing her skin into her body.

His hands were placed on her shoulders.

His eyes almost bored holes into her.

“No, no, I'm not. I am sorry. I saw you were having a nightmare, and I just wanted to check up on you.”

She quickly explained, and she saw the look in his eyes soften.

Before he got off the bed, she hurriedly sat up in case he wanted to pin her down again.

“I'm sorry,” he said calmly.

And she looked stunned by his sudden change in attitude.

If she hadn't heard the rumors about this man, she would think he was a very nice and kind man.

“I didn't mean to scare you. It was just a simple reflex.”

There was silence between the two as Odessa wiped off the wounds on his hands. It was like he got into a battle with some animals, and he wasn't healing on time. She quietly cleaned them, expecting him to tell her where he got the wounds from, but they both kept mute. “So you won't tell me what caused these bruises and wounds?” She said to him, making him look at her. But he buried his head, looking down at the floor. “Desmond,” she called, and he slowly looked up at her. “Answer me, will you?” “You'll just leave like the rest of them if I tell you.” He replied calmly, and at the same time, anger hinted in his tone. “They haven't even learned who I am, and they all ran from me. How am I sure you won't do the same when you find out?” “Who's telling you that nonsense?” She looked at him with a raised brow and a frown. “Do I look like someone who will judge you for anything?” “But you do look like someone who can beat me up for anything.” He mumbled, and for the first time

After the stressful day at the wedding hall, Odessa was finally able to go back to the room. Desmond was still down, talking to some people. And he had asked her to go take some rest if she wanted to. Odessa was stunned to see the two beds in the room gone and now replaced by a king-sized bed, which looked like it had just been neatly set. “Looks like you've really found your way deep into his heart for him to pick up you two sleeping together after marriage and not apart,” Aria chuckled teasingly. “Every husband and wife sleeps in the same bed. He'll be really dumb not to let that happen.” Odessa rolled her eyes as she headed into the bathroom, pulling off her clothes as she could. “Says the one who just enjoyed his kiss and couldn't deny it.” Aria teased again, and Odessa just let out a sigh of defeat. This would never be the end of the discussion of that kiss. “Okay, that's enough, Aria. It's embarrassing enough.” As she stepped out of the bathroom after cleaning up, sh

Odessa stood in front of the large floor-to-ceiling mirror in the main living room on their floor, not believing the day they had picked for the wedding had arrived. She still thought this was all a sarcastic comment till she saw the guests start arriving since the previous day. “Is this tight enough, my lady?” the seamstress asked her. She was helping Odessa into her red dress, which was the tradition of the pack. Any woman who was to be married to her husband-to-be would wear the red dress. “Or do you want me to—” “I'm going to choke. Please loosen it a little,” Odessa said, her voice just above a whisper, and the seamstress immediately did as she was asked. “That's much better.” Odessa sighed before looking at her reflection in the mirror. The dress was adorned with thousands of crystals, and the dress was very light and fitted her shape perfectly. Her hair was up in a majestic bun with red crystals and jewels hung in her hair. She looked more elegant than she usually did

Odessa sat opposite Desmond at the dining table for breakfast. The only sounds that could be heard were the faint connection of their cutleries and plates. Besides that, there was nothing but silence in the room till Odessa spoke up. “Alpha Devon told me I'm only here to give you an heir.” As she said that, he paused. After a few seconds, he continued like he did not hear what she said, and it annoyed her, but she didn't say a word and just started eating again. “So what do you think about it?” He finally said, making her look up at him with a raised brow. “What do you think about having an heir for me?” “Well, I don't have any bad thoughts towards it.” She replied, sipping from her glass of juice, her gaze focused on him. “But what's in it for me?” Her question shocked him, and for the first time since she arrived, she saw him smirk. “What's in it for you? You're a pawn in Alpha Devon's game, so you're only here so he can get his rewards.” He pointed out, and that made h

Odessa walked into the pack house, which was strangely bigger on the outside than it was on the inside. It looked so beautiful. And she wondered how they allowed this many people in the pack house. “The ground floor is always very busy. Please follow me, my lady.” George said, gesturing towards the large stairs, which were the only part those in the pack house weren't walking through. “The pack house is open to just an amount of people. Most of them live in the pack house's spare apartments in the pack compound,” George explained as he led her up the next floor. “This is the important nobles' floor.” He said, turning to take her up the next flight of stairs leading to the next floor, which was the Delta's. The visit then was that of the Beta before reaching the floor where he told her all Alpha duties took place. “You won't see anyone on this floor unless ordered by the Alpha,” he explained before taking
