Aurora stepped into the restaurant and scanned the room without hesitation.

She spotted Cole immediately.

He was seated near the window, jacket draped over the back of his chair, posture relaxed in that familiar way that once made her feel safe without even realizing it. For half a second, her chest tightened. Then the memories surged…too fast, too sharp, too alive to ignore.

Before Cole could even stand fully, Aurora crossed the distance between them and wrapped her arms around him.

Tightly.

Very tightly.

Her arms locked around his shoulders as if letting go would mean losing him all over again. Her cheek pressed against his chest, and for a moment, she forgot where she was, forgot the clink of cutlery and low murmur of conversations around them.

The last time she had seen Cole was in her past life.

The last time… he had been frantic. Exhausted. Desperate. Working endlessly to find a cure for the strange illness that had taken her life…and Elara’s with it. She remembered his bloodsho

Another chuckle followed.“They say the first time is chance,” the voice continued, smooth and familiar. “The second time is fate.”Cole frowned immediately, the lines between his brows tightening as he looked past Aurora’s shoulder toward the source of the voice. He didn’t like interruptions, especially not ones that arrived uninvited and carried themselves with that kind of confidence.“Do you… know him?” Cole asked quietly, his voice low but alert, his body already shifting just enough to put himself slightly between Aurora and the stranger.“No,” she said flatly. “I have no idea who he is.”Billy let out an exaggerated gasp, his hand flying to his chest as if she’d just wounded him deeply.“Ouch,” he said, shaking his head with mock pain. “That hurts. Right here.”Aurora rolled her eyes so hard it almost hurt. She didn’t dignify him with a response, not even a glance. Instead, she turned back to Cole, her attention snapping cleanly back to the table like Billy didn’t exist at all.

Lilith lowered her head, strands of hair falling forward as if in shame, hiding the smile that no one else could see.Aurora saw it.That tiny curve of satisfaction. That silent I won.Her fingers curled into fists at her sides. She was holding back her rage, the kind that burned slow and deep, curling tight in her chest, threatening to choke her if she let it rise any higher.“Are you serious?” Aurora asked, her voice shaking despite her effort to keep it steady.Xavier didn’t hesitate. Not even for a second.“Why would you slap her?” he demanded. “Why are you so aggressive?”Aggressive. The word echoed in Aurora’s head like a bad joke. She let out a sharp, incredulous breath. “You’re not even asking what happened,” she said, her eyes burning into his. “You’re already taking her side.”Xavier’s jaw tightened. His gaze flicked briefly to Lilith, who was still on the floor now, clutching her arm and breathing unevenly, before snapping back to Aurora.“I don’t want to know what happened

The next morning, Aurora went straight to the kitchen. The house was already awake. Servants moved efficiently around the wide space, the clink of plates and the low hum of conversation filling the air. Breakfast was being prepared, the smell of toasted bread and brewed coffee lingering softly.Aurora stepped in with purpose.“Good morning, Mrs. Steele." The servants chorused as soon as they noticed her.“Good morning,” Aurora responded with a smile.“Elara wants oatmeal,” she told one of the maids, her tone calm but firm. “With honey. And sliced strawberries. No milk…use almond.”“Yes, ma’am,” the maid replied, then hesitated slightly. “And… how about Jaxon, ma’am? Will he want the same?”Aurora didn’t even need to think about it. “Yes, of course,” she said. “Jaxon always wants whatever Elara wants. So do the same thing for him.”The maid chuckled softly, nodding. Aurora was right. Ever since Jaxson had been staying in the house, he followed Elara everywhere. Whatever she did, he did

Aurora finally found her voice.“I’m sorry,” she said, steadying herself even as her pulse kicked hard against her ribs. “I’m not Lilith.”The stranger who had bumped into her studied her face more closely now, his gaze slow, deliberate, and unsettling.“I can see that now,” he said.Aurora paused. It wasn’t just his words…it was his voice. Low. Controlled. Familiar in a way that made something cold slide down her spine. She couldn’t place it, no matter how hard she tried, but her instincts were screaming at her to be careful. The man stretched out his hand toward her.“I’m Billy.”Aurora had to fight everything in her not to react. So this was him.Billy.Of course, that was why his voice felt familiar. Lilith’s shadow didn’t just linger in places… it walked, breathed, and spoke. This was the man Lilith was involved with. The man Bobby had mentioned more than once, always with a note of caution, he rarely used, the man who had broken into Lilith’s apartment, and they had overheard hi

Aurora stood at the balcony doors for a long moment after ending the call with Bobby.Below her, the estate grounds seemed to stretch out in deceptive calm….trimmed hedges, stone paths, a world that looked orderly enough to trust. She knew better now. Calm was just another disguise.Behind her, laughter drifted from the living room.Elara’s voice was bright and animated while Jaxon was like a quieter presence beside her, toy cars clinking softly against the floor.Aurora turned away from the balcony.Soon she will be meeting up with Bobby, and she can’t take Elara everywhere. Especially not when Bobby was involved. Especially not when she was starting to move pieces that could provoke retaliation. She walked through the hall and into the kitchen, where the soft hum of appliances filled the space. One of the servants glanced up.“Good afternoon, Mrs.Steele.” She greeted.“Please,” Aurora said, keeping her voice level, “ask Mrs. Harper to come see me in Elara's room.”“Yes, ma’am.”Auro
